A straightforward initial setup with helpful technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup was straightforward. With configuration, customizing or prepping the data and deployment, it took about one year to set up. We only needed two people to deploy and maintain the solution: one business architect and someone who specializes in customization and operations."
  • "They do tend to push people to their professional services, instead of helping the customers with their problems. I understand this is their business. At the same time, however, they need to work on fact sheets or offer some program to help the customers who want to implement it themselves and to make it run properly in their environment."

What is our primary use case?

Currently, we are just using the business model's architecture and MEGA's architecture.

What is most valuable?

The IT portfolio is the most useful feature. The IT portfolio management is becoming more advanced and more easy for the IT management to generate revenue, to see the gaps within management with the portfolio management application. However, in the end, we didn't use it. I could not convince our management to implement the solution, even though I thought it seemed interesting.

What needs improvement?

The solution is really expensive. I sent this same feedback six months ago. I told them they have a lot of opportunities in the Middle East to fill the small and medium businesses niche, even using the cloud. But, the product is very, very costly.

They do tend to push people to their professional services, instead of helping the customers with their problems. I understand this is their business. At the same time, however, they need to work on fact sheets or offer some program to help the customers who want to implement it themselves and to make it run properly in their environment. The company seems only interested in selling and not customer satisfaction. I'm not asking for anything for free, I'm just asking them to invest a bit in helping their customers implement their technology correctly.

The documentation needs to be more clearly explained. The documentation gives the customers an indication that everything is available, but when they buy the module, they discover that the pieces that they are looking for are not available in the current module, or that they are available in a different module. Then, the user needs to buy a different module or use professional services even though they thought these items were included. It's confusing.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for one year, however the implementation was three years ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I can't speak for it on a large-scale since we only used it on a smaller scale, but we didn't face a lot of issues. What problems we did have, the security team dealt with easily, so we didn't have many issues at all. It's good.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is very good. However, they are limited. They cannot support me further because we actually need their professional services, which I cannot access at this point. You need to pay for it. Sometimes, if I try to make some customization they inform me that it's actually a professional service and they redirect me to that community instead. The community website is not mature. It's okay, but it doesn't offer the help I need. If it is a small customization for a POC, they should still be able to help without charging the company. I understand that some customizations need professional services, but these customizations help you sustain your technology within the environment, and the company should want to help ensure the customer is satisfied with the tech.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, I just used Excel and Visio.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. With configuration, customizing or prepping the data and deployment, it took about one year to set up. We only needed two people to deploy and maintain the solution: one business architect and someone who specializes in customization and operations.

What about the implementation team?

Since we set up the solution, then stopped working on it, then started again, we had to reconfigure everything. I created a new environment and I installed the new version and I migrated the old version over. The solution's technical support assisted with the migration when we re-started using the solution over the past year.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is very expensive, and the company constantly directs users to their professional services, which also costs money.

What other advice do I have?

We don't use the solution on a large scale. We mainly just use it in the IT department. We're using the on-premises deployment solution.

Originally, about two years ago, we set up the solution, then we froze work on it. Recently we started it up again, but it needed to re-configure the solution because our business requirements had changed.

MEGA typically exceeds most of the needs of a client in terms of what they offer.

As for advice to others considering using this solution, I'd say this: you need to study the modules and to match them to your business requirements before you begin so you don't buy something you don't need or won't use. Make sure you know what you need before entering into an agreement.

I would rate the solution at eight out of ten but they need to enhance their way of filling the modules because as of right now, it's not ideal for the customer.

It provides a central repository of all architecture artifacts. Managing the new licenses and roles was difficult on the initial setup.

What is most valuable?

ITPM – It provides a central location to manage our technology portfolio and standards/governance.

How has it helped my organization?

It provides a central repository of all architecture artifacts as well as application inventory. It has made it easier to do impact analysis. It’s slowly becoming the authoritative source of current state application architecture.

What needs improvement?

We would like the reporting and analytics, road mapping, import/export functionality, and data modelling capabilities to be improved.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

It was a bit challenging to convert our old Mega licensing model to the new Hopex licensing model which is at a more granular level. Managing the new licenses and roles was difficult on the initial setup.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There were no issues with the stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have had no issues scaling it for our needs.

How are customer service and technical support?

Overall, they have good support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We evaluated other EA tools but we already had Mega in-house and continued to use it.

How was the initial setup?

Fairly straightforward. There were some steps in the documentation that were not clear but with tech support’s help we overcame the issues.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented it in-house with an enterprise architect and system administrator working together. We developed an implementation plan before starting the initial deployment and/or upgrade.

What was our ROI?

Mega needs to simplify their licensing model more like other leading EA tools in the market.

What other advice do I have?

Collect accurate and up-to-date data about your environment before implementing an EA tool. Have an approach in terms of what objects to create in the tool in what order. Set up a sandbox environment to familiarize the architects and other users with the tool. Avoid creating extraneous objects in the production environment; start with small set of objects and artifacts that add value and will be used.

It's an integrated architecture, so you can depict business processes with BPMN notation, and identify every system that participated in the process then generate the application architecture.

What is most valuable?

As a business and process analyst, I found the Mega Process module very powerful. Since Hopex is an integrated architecture, it was possible to depict business processes with BPMN notation, and identify every system that participated in the process then generate the application architecture. It is also possible to generate textual procedures from the process models with Mega Process, and it is possible to export all processes to the enterprise architecture (TOGAF) module if needed.

How has it helped my organization?

As a consultant, I implemented Mega Process in different enterprises. For example, you create a process referential, which means, you depict the general cartography and all the subsequent levels (process layers), until the finest level. You're able to see all these levels in one space, using the the drill down technique to spread them, and see all the details for each process the process referential can be shown to every SME or users by installing the publisher module.

What needs improvement?

The most important thing to be improved is the reliability. Mega should pay more attention because from time to time, the screen freezes or the application stops working without saving the work.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used it for more than 14 months.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

I've had no issues with the deployment, and I've done three.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I've had no issues with the stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I've had no issues scaling it for our needs.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

9/10 - They were very useful.

Technical Support:

9/10 - They were very useful.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used to use the AG BPM solution, and it wasn't my decision to switch.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was a bit tricky, because Mega made a strong security procedure to avoid hacking their solution, but after a few times, the process become pretty clear.

What about the implementation team?

As a reseller, I implement the solution with the help of the vendor in the client environment, so I am not very aware about the Mega Hopex architecture and technical view.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I found the price in the middle range of these kinds of products.

What other advice do I have?

Before implementation, you will find it useful to visit the Mega community website https://community.mega.com/. I found it very helpful on many occasions, for example, you can find many tips about the implementation.

Use Case Driven EA, BPA and GRC Modules
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of MEGA HOPEX are the seamless VPA module and the good user experience. There are built-in connections that provide integration with other platforms, such as ServiceNow. There is a lot of customization available allowing a lot of freedom. The solution is updated frequently adding new features. For example, the feature GraphQL can be integrated into other solutions, such as ManageEngine for ITSM solutions. You are able to use GraphQL to connect APIs and query the APIs."
  • "MEGA HOPEX can improve process simulation in the BPA module. If the solution was better we would not have to use another solution for this purpose. Simulating scenarios in the future for the to-be processes is in demand. If we can have the simulation engine built inside MEGA HOPEX, we would not have to purchase another license or solution to integrate them with each other. This would be a great improvement."

What is our primary use case?

MEGA HOPEX is an EA platform used to implement different use cases like application rationalization, IT portfolio management, IT business management, business process analysis, IT architecture, data management, governance, risk, and compliance. All of those are top-level capabilities. MEGA HOPEX is considered a leader in EA according to the latest Gartner report.

What is most valuable?

There are built-in connectors that provide out-of-the-box integration with other well-known platforms, such as ServiceNow. There is always room for customization enabling a catered platform unique for each client.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using MEGA HOPEX for approximately two years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

HOPEX is highly scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Very responsive and helpful customer support

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of MEGA HOPEX was easy.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

It provides a unique repository with good and tight integration
Pros and Cons
  • "Every module sets up the same information in a unique repository."
  • "Lacking more out of the box integrations."

What is our primary use case?

We are partners and resellers of MEGA HOPEX and I'm a consultant and director of our company.

What is most valuable?

MEGA has different models and different disciplines, but perhaps for me, the best feature would be that it has one unique repository for all of them. On the modules, they are MEGA HOPEX, IT portfolio management, enterprise architecture, business process, analytics, governance, risk and compliance. Every module sets up the same information in a unique repository. It's a very good and tight integration for every stakeholder in the company.

What needs improvement?

There is always room for improvement. Of course, if they could reduce the price it would be more helpful for selling or buying it. They could also perhaps include more out of the box integrations.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability has definitely improved with the more recent releases.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is good. You can have a few users, or you can have hundreds and it's not an issue. Most of our clients are enterprise companies.

How are customer service and technical support?

We haven't had any issues with technical support. Every time we need anything, we've received it. They have a lot of material, and a very big community also, which helps a lot for the different customizations.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is reasonably straightforward. It requires some kind of training, but nothing too difficult. Within two days you can almost become an expert in every model, for sure.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

One of my colleagues carried out an evaluation of some other solutions and I believe his main claim was that the other tools were not a whole solution. You have providers and companies that give you different solutions for every arena in enterprise architecture and not always the integration or sharing of the common objects that you need.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend contacting MEGA, asking questions and analyzing your requirements against the solution. MEGA has multiple language support and not only for technical support. The tool is also available in different languages. If your company needs enterprise architecture then you won't have any difficulty with MEGA.

I would rate this solution a nine out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

Good for enterprise and architecture modeling, but lacks capability for process automation
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature for this solution is the automatic updating and propagation of changes across the system."
  • "We would like to see integration with other products, such as being able to use our workflow with SharePoint and Microsoft Office."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case for this solution is process modeling.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature for this solution is the automatic updating and propagation of changes across the system. For example, when we make a change in one of our organizational charts, the changes are automatically made in all of the other processes. This saves us time as compared to in the past when this had to be done manually.

It is a user-friendly solution.

What needs improvement?

We use this solution for modeling and we do not have an application side to create forms and deploy applications. It would be helpful if we could use this solution to model an application and then deploy it.

If would be better for us if there was a cloud version of this solution available.

Continuous integration and DevOps is not yet handled by this solution.

We would like to see integration with other products, such as being able to use our workflow with SharePoint and Microsoft Office.

For how long have I used the solution?

Between two and three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of this solution is ok.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of this product is something that we found issues with during migration. I would rate the scalability of this solution at sixty percent.

It is only my team, the Quality Department, who uses this solution and there are four of us. The other people in the company refer to the reports that it produces but do not use the product directly.

How are customer service and technical support?

I would rate this solution's technical support a six out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have also used Kissflow, which is able to handle both the organizational side and the application side. Using that solution we can model, create forms, and deploy it like an app. We can have a workflow to help organize the company. It isn't just for understanding how a process works.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup for this solution was straightforward and easy.

We did have a problem with migration from an older version to a newer one. There was an issue where our administrator made an error and we lost data. We spoke with our partner and they suggested that we should pay because it was our mistake. In the end, we lost thirty percent of our data.

What about the implementation team?

We bought this solution directly from the vendor in Morocco, and they helped us with the implementation. It was really good.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

If you want to use additional features, such as the Risk Management capability, then it is a little too expensive.

What other advice do I have?

This solution can be used for modeling, and the publication for employees to consult on the process and design. It can not be used to automate processes or create an application. Therefore, if you want it for enterprise architecture and modeling then it is a very good solution. On the other hand, if you want it for process automation then it is not.

When we migrated to this solution it was difficult. I don't think that we had enough documentation. We felt it was important to switch to the new version because the older one is no longer supported. The impression we have is that when you want to do something like a migration, they want you to pay extra consulting fees. For mid-sized companies, this is sometimes not in the budget.

It is a little bit frustrating that we do not have process automation. Without this, we cannot scale this solution to the new services of our company.

I would rate this solution a six out of ten.
