NAKIVO Backup & Replication Reviews

Our primary use case is to back up our virtual machines.

We have a hyper-converged infrastructure with Nutanix, made up of three servers with VMware ESXi and a virtual machine with a VMware vCenter appliance.

We have a QNAP NAS with Nakivo Backup & Replication installed. Every day, we create a backup of all the virtual machines. The entire infrastructure is connected with two switches in the stack, in high availability. Every link is 10GBase-LX4 and is redundant.

Nakivo is easy to configure because there are only a few basic configurations to complete before it starts working. I use it with VMware and Hyper-V. When you start the initial configuration, it asks you essential questions to reach your goal.

After that, you can schedule backups, and the dashboard shows if there are any problems during the previous backups, also suggesting the solution.

The process of restoring the virtual machine is very simple. You select what you want to recover and how you want it done, then click to run. The dashboard shows you the speed of the process and alerts you when is it done.

Nakivo has a lot of features that are very interesting.

For my purpose, I find VM Backup to be the most useful, as it gives me the ability to create image-based, incremental backups of VMware, Hyper-V, and Nutanix AHV VMs.

Instant Backup Verification permits me to instantly verify VMware and Hyper-V VM backups and to get a report with screenshots of test-recovered machines.

Backup Encryption protects my data in flight and at rest with AES 256 encryption.

Instant VM Recovery is useful because I can boot VMware and Hyper-V VMs directly from deduplicated backups.

Instant File Recovery to Source is helpful because I can browse, search, and instantly restore files and folders back to the source.

In the future, it would be nice to have support for Zimbra email, Collabora Office, and the NextCloud content collaboration platform.

We have been using Nakivo for three years.

Stability-wise, Nakivo is good.

I have a good impression of the scalability.

I have not used their technical support.

Yes, we used Commvault, but it is very complicate and not practical for our use. So we choose Nakivo for is semplicity and the pricing.

The initial setup is straightforward because it guides you with a few questions.

I implemented it through a vendor team and their level of expertise is good.

Yes Veeam Backup and Replication, but it very expensive.

The last version of Nakivo introduced the support to protect Microsoft Office 365 data with backup and recovery for OneDrive for Business and Exchange Online. It sends source-side deduplicated backups to HPE StoreOnce backup appliances with HPE StoreOnce Catalyst integration.

Unfortunately, we don't use that technology because we have Zimbra as our mail server and Collabora Office as our Office application. Also, we use NextCloud, a content collaboration platform.

Overall, Nakivo works fine and we don't have any problems for now.

I have a small environment with two hosts since most of our services are running in the cloud. We are a cautious group and we keep a copy of our files on-premise, as well as in the cloud. We are using NAKIVO for backing up our file storage and virtual machines.

The product has enabled me to concentrate on other tasks without worrying about the daily backups. Once I was past the initial setup and testing, I was confident that the product would perform reliably and as expected. So far, I have not been disappointed. 

The quick and easy setup of the ready-made virtual appliance made it simple to deploy. It was running within an hour. The interface is easy to understand and it gets the job done with a clean GUI. Perfect for someone who doesn't want to waste time.

The software is aimed at backing up VM images but it would be nice to have an option to just backup certain files/folders and not the entire disk.

NAKIVO is very stable and reliable. I am running an appliance that is just a virtual machine, and it has not given me any issues so far.

I have not tested the scalability of the product, but based on the features it should be as easy as the rest of the product is to use.

My experience with support has been good, but I really haven't needed their help much. 

I previously used VMware VDP for backing up my virtual machines. This was complex and difficult to maintain. I wanted to switch to something that would not take as much time to manage. 

The setup was simple and easy. Using the virtual appliance, all I needed to do was deploy the OVF (Open Virtualization Format) file, then set up the networking, storage, and connect the hosts. It doesn't confuse you with jargon or fancy interfaces, it's easy to use.

I implemented this by myself within an hour. I consider myself to have an intermediate level of expertise, but I believe a beginner should not have a problem with this either. 

I recognize my return on investment as the amount of time I have saved by implementing this solution. It was fast to deploy, quick to configure, and with little to no maintenance necessary, it is easy to manage. 

Setup is simple and with a ready-made virtual appliance, it makes deployment even faster. All you need is the capacity for running the appliance and storage on your existing VM host. Pricing is easy to understand and very affordable.

Two of the other options that I considered were Veeam and Vembu.

The product is a time saver and makes complex tasks easy to handle. A must-have for beginners and one-person teams.

With VMware ESXi with Vcenter setup including HP SAN, we are using this backup and replication solution for local and cloud backup including offsite backups.

In this software, they give an option to copy the backup to another NAS. Wasabi is the cheapest option for cloud backup and we are using it as a cloud backup since their support is good and they are ready to listen to our requirements and give better use suggestions.

The software has been working since 2018. After a few months of testing, it looks like the solution is solid.

I appreciate the management that really does respond quickly. They reply immediately to any query raised from us as a technician or consultant and they know the pulse of the market and keep updating the features in such a big way. Kudos to the team.

I appreciate the motivation and confidence. It helps to sell Nakivo products when outstanding support is provided and its well-performing software easily beats competitors.

The product license and support delivery have been great!

I'm okay with the solutions they are providing. Their product is good and it meets our requirements, however, new features are also most welcome and we never hesitated to try new features.

I've used the solution for more than three years.

We are a cosmetics laboratory, hosting a Dell server with ESXi 6.5, six virtual machines, and two Synology NAS.

NAKIVO has given us confidence by reducing the possibility of having a failure in our virtual machines.

The virtual machines in the laboratory are fundamental for the daily functioning of the laboratory, and a great number of people work on them every day. A failure in a virtual machine would have a very damaging impact on the laboratory, and a great economic cost.

Creating a backup task in NAKIVO is fast and easy.

Until you see it, you do not get the idea of how simple and fast NAKIVO is. This is why I always recommend installing the NAKIVO trial version.

After knowing NAKIVO, it is difficult to understand how other solutions are successful. It is fast, simple, powerful, and has a price without competition.

I think it is important to work not only in replicating the virtual machines in Amazon AWS but in other cloud systems. I want to have replicas in the cloud at a more competitive cost.

The solution is very stable and has a direct support system from NAKIVO.

Scaling this product is very simple, as its licensing system is both clear and economical.

It can be implemented to match whatever the size of the infrastructure is.

Accessing technical support is very easy. I usually do it by means of a ticket from NAKIVO. They not only answer me quickly, but they do not close the ticket until it has been solved.

I did not use a different solution prior to this.

The basic configuration for NAKIVO is extremely simple. In addition, you have access to support in a very simple way, either by opening a chat in real time or by sending a ticket that you will have a response to in less than twenty-four hours.

It's a simple solution.

The first time I implemented NAKIVO, I did it without experience and without help from anyone. The implementation was a success.

I have not calculated the ROI because the solution is really economical.

What I advise everyone is to install the trial version of NAKIVO and see the potential it has, as well as how simple it is.

The price is not a problem in NAKIVO, as it is the most competitive in the market.

I was looking for information about other systems for copying virtual machines, such as Veeam Backup. I chose NAKIVO and did not fail in my decision.

My only advice is to try it.

Our primary use case is to back up our VMs from vSphere. 

It is nice to have a fast and reliable backup solution.

The solution has a user-friendly interface and is easy to configure.

In the next release, it would be good to have ability/feature to backup only Oracle database from the Linux OS beside backing up whole VM.

I've used the solution for less than one month.

Stability plays a big role when implementing the solution, and this solution definitely has it.

It is good to have a solution with scalability available to us.

Our company supports local and national manufacturers, accountants, retail services, and other sectors of the economy. Further details would violate security protocols, so that is all I will say about the environment that we support, in a public forum.

Our company maintains partnerships with major technology providers and designs custom solutions for our tenants.

Nakivo is a simple-to-use alternative to other more costly vSphere backup alternatives. It is easy to set up using the included virtual appliance and also includes agents for most NAS systems.

Nakivo is easy to use but includes many advanced features like crash-consistent backups for MS SQL, etc.

We are satisfied with Nakivo, but if anything could be improved, I think it would be more real-time as opposed to email support availability.

We did not use another similar product prior to Nakivo.

The licensing currently allows for host-based licensing, which is advantageous if you have a lot of data on a few hosts.

We evaluated Veeam before choosing Nakivo.

We have a VMware environment that needed backup and replication. We run NAKIVO on a Synology NAS and replicate to another VMware Server.

This solution was surprisingly easy to configure. It has a much higher bang for the buck than other products we evaluated. The replication is very fast.

The most valuable feature for us is policy based replication, which lets you add a VMware Virtual Server and NAKIVO will automatically back it up provided that it fits the policy.

An improvement would be to give us more control over the email alerts, with different emails going to different addresses based on a set of rules.

We used Xackup with XenServer prior to this.

I found that this solution was surprisingly easy to configure.

I suggest downloading a trial copy from the website and take it for a spin. It has straightforward licensing.

We also evaluated Veeam Backup & Replication.

We use Nakivo to backup the VMs running at our customer's site. We mainly use ESXi and Hyper-V machines, which usually have two VMs that we want to back-up. We usually install Nakivo on a NAS device, which is a good fit for our customers.

Most of our customers are Small businesses that have small setups.

We can offer an affordable and reliable backup solution to our customers. It is clear what you get: a back-up solution that does what it promises.

I like that Nakivo can be installed on Windows, Linux, and on a NAS. This gives flexibility in the way we can offer solutions. Other than that, I like the core features. The back-up and restore functions work great and it's easy to use.

At the moment I am pleased with what Nakivo does but I would like more reporting functions and if possible, integration with my RMM system.

We have been using Nakivo for about two years.

Nakivo is stable and we haven't had any problems as of yet.

Scaling will be dependant on other factors like storage.

I also have good experiences with Nakivo as a company. The account manager is nice and reaches out to us whenever Nakivo has a new feature that he would like to share. If there are any questions on our part, we get a good and quick response.

The initial setup is straightforward. You are guided and there is a lot of information on the website.

Talk to the sales department about all of the possibilities, as they will help you to find the best solution for your setup. 

We tested Veeam and while it is a decent option, we think that the price is too high for the functions you get. That is why we started looking at Nakivo.
