Slack is stable and we haven't had any problems.

Good content management with named channel capability to focus projects
Pros and Cons
  • "Slack is a powerpack bundle of features that help small or large organizations to handle teams and their tasks."
  • "I would like to see the social sharing of blogs, announcements, or other news directly from the message corner."

What is our primary use case?

I use Slack to communicate mainly for content related tasks with clients as they find it easy and quick to keep track of all of the on-going projects. Most importantly, it helped me to communicate with other content writers whenever I have to work in a team for a particular content project.

How has it helped my organization?

Earlier, while we used to communicate through email, it was good but it became difficult to keep track of all the projects and keep ourselves updated with the latest changes. Since we started using Slack, we have been able to solve each other's problems and identify all of the loopholes within a reasonable timeline.

What is most valuable?

Slack is a powerpack bundle of features that help small or large organizations to handle teams and their tasks. Personally, I love the feature that gives you the ability to name a channel as per task and include/exclude members within that channel to eradicate all other disturbances.

What needs improvement?

According to my observation, a large size file sharing feature is what can be expected, which will centralize all activities within Slack and that can save a lot of time.

I would like to see the social sharing of blogs, announcements, or other news directly from the message corner.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for three years.

I really liked the Slack bot and its integration with partners to make the work easy

What is our primary use case?

It's our organization's chatroom where workflows and information are passed. We use Slack for communication within teams.

How has it helped my organization?

Slack has been very useful in our organization for doing communications and passing on pieces of information.

What is most valuable?

I really liked the Slack bot and its integration with partners to make the work easy and with proper flow. We can create a group also.

What needs improvement?

  • I think it's the best till now and the Slack team is doing well.
  • It will be great if they can start using the offline mode chat. Once we are back online, it will float the messages again.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is stable, but you need an online connection.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This product has been doing well until now.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Google Hangouts before Slack.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very easy.

What about the implementation team?

It was an in-house implementation and easy to set up.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

You can have a free trial also for Slack, and its pricing depends on the features and team size you want to go with. The pricing is good, and it's worth it.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We were planning for Skype, Discord and Microsoft Teams.

The integrations feature is the most powerful feature because some issues are of immediate priority

What is our primary use case?

We are using Slack for all office internal communications — to create polls, reminders, notifications for builds, etc.

How has it helped my organization?

Previously, we were using Skype and HipChat, but the issue was we had bad notifications systems, so that's why we shifted to Slack.

What is most valuable?

In my opinion, the integrations feature is the most powerful feature because some issues are of immediate priority and we want to get the notification promptly, and through the Jira plug-in, we are getting those.

What needs improvement?

I think the login feature needs to be improved most because I've been having an issue with logging in to the desktop app for more than six months, but still, it's not been resolved.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

Channels enable us to manage by locations and subjects, works well on mobile

How has it helped my organization?

We are able to manage various channels by different locations and subjects, and it integrates with Google Drive.

What is most valuable?

  • Channels
  • File sharing
  • Works well on mobile

What needs improvement?

Notifications.

For how long have I used the solution?

Less than one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No stability issues, works perfectly.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I haven't notice any scalability issues.

How are customer service and technical support?

Tried to find information about advance settings for notifications, but did not find what I was looking for.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used Skype. We switched because our parent company uses Slack, and we had to adjust.

How was the initial setup?

Pretty straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am not dealing with pricing and licensing, so I cannot comment.

What other advice do I have?

Initially I thought it cannot be better than Skype, but after working with it for a while I can definitely confirm it is a great tool for collaboration.

The valuable features are group chat, sharing of attachments, and pinning items.

What is most valuable?

The valuable features are mainly group chat, calling, easy sharing of attachments, and pinning items. These might be basic features, but they make life much easier.

How has it helped my organization?

Communication with clients became easy. Different groups for different teams helped a lot in the planning and execution. Everyone stays updated with the progress without any ambiguity.

What needs improvement?

I believe they can improve upon ‘calling’, which was introduced recently.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for more than a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There were not many issues with stability, but whenever they introduced a new update, the loading time went up.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There were no issues with scalability.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is good. They are pretty quick with responses and provide excellent support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Skype. We switched mainly because maintaining different client organizations is pretty easy on Slack.

Other reasons include the powerful search feature, rich messaging, a more customizable interface, chat functionality, and email notifications.

How was the initial setup?

The setup was pretty simple and quick. The sign up form was easy and the complete onboarding process was quite smooth.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Slack is actually rewriting the rules on SaaS pricing. It’s free for basic use and offers some awesome features at no cost at all. I will highly recommend Slack to other companies.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We didn’t look at other alternatives.

What other advice do I have?

I am not sure if someone is looking to implement a product like Slack, but if someone is really looking for it, then it’s not that easy.

Slack took many months/years to get to this stage. More importantly, they focused on small and medium sized enterprises, which was their biggest market.
