Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The product is very useful to find problems in middleware for the application servers, especially agent instrumentation and management is user friendly.""As an Administrator, before we bought this AppInternals, I didn't have visibility on why items were slow or why an application was not running. This gives us the ability to see what's going on. The application is load balancing. We can now see if its own server has issues or just one specific server has issues.""The capability of analysing each individual transaction captured to a very low level detail (method call/line of code).""The most valuable aspect of this solution is the integration with their other systems. It's easy to understand and it points out the relevant problems in the enterprise.""Transaction Tracing is the most useful. Being able to have the transaction stitched together so we can see where the problem is has proven invaluable.""We just control on the backend of AppInternals what we want to instrument and what we don't want to instrument.""Synthetic transactions, WMI and SNMP query capability.""Clicks to root cause - fast & easy to diagnose and deep-dive"

"It is a very stable product.""It is very helpful to be able to apply rule-based routing to alerts.""I like the deep-dive detail and end-user metrics data. The synthetic monitor is the best one. The best point of the new one is that there's no need for configuration. You can inject the Java script and start to change major developments in the application. This is a good approach, and we received all the data using this.""We can verify uptimes as another source of keeping devices in compliance.""Signature baselines, which have allowed us to fine tune many of our events and significantly reduce the number of events generated.""The fact that they have a very integrated relationship with Sentry Software, the Knowledge Module, is valuable... The richest feature for us is the number of Knowledge Modules that we can load into the product to add breadth of service to the customer. It enables us to move up the operational stack from hardware, to operating system, to application, and to cloud... That enables us to provide one pane of glass over all those layers - hardware, OS, app, and cloud.""I believe that the ease of use and UI is great""TSOM's ability to consolidate alerts into a single location and provide filtering of alerts is great."

More BMC TrueSight Operations Management Pros →

"You can do deep dive analysis and find root cause quickly.""Dynatrace is a powerful tool for full stack monitoring with APM capabilities and AI root cause problem analysis. This helps our customers with their digital transformation and gaining insight into their infrastructure.""It makes our lives easier as we drill down to problems.""A monitoring system that can show us code level details.""Support was very quick to help us identify a problem and fix it immediately""The features that we find most valuable are automatic root cause detection, topology discovery, and session replay.""We are not blind anymore with our digital services performance; no more fire fighting.""Reduced MTTR, thanks to smart problem detection and automated root cause analysis."

Cons
"I would like for it to have automated updates, the way the product updates itself should be all automated, as opposed to what it is now.""The admin dashboard could be easier as it takes a little bit of time to get used to it.""The technical support is not very good and should be improved.""It would be great if the solution could offer fixed bundles and more features.""They should find a way for report generation from TTW to run quicker.""The recording mechanism for synthetic transactions could be improved as well.""We have put in a request as an enhancement that we would like to search for items. If we're searching for a URL and we want to know was it a get or was it a post.""Support for PHP, DB and other applications need to be supported."

More Aternity AppInternals [EOL] Cons →

"We have a unique use case because BMC typically sells this solution into enterprises that are deploying it within their IT, versus to a managed services provider like us where we're supporting thousands of customers. Multi-tenancy and the scalability have been challenges along the way, as we've grown... If anything could have gone better as we were ramping this up and adding a lot of volume to it, I would say it's the scalability. That would be one thing that could be improved.""In our company, we faced some issues with the solution’s application endpoint, IP, and the physical location of the transactions.""I would like them to improve the deep-dive details, tracing, and data agents in this product. We have EUEM, an end-user experience monitoring appliance. This one's quicker than the current one, and reporting side and filtration side are very bad. There are many details we look at and explain what we receive information in the current one, but we cannot have historical data like we do with EUEM. We cannot have a powerful point to look for specific traffic from a specific application and a specific browser. We don't have it in the new one. The current BMC also needs to add the thing that control versions.""The UI for the end users could be improved and more flexible than it is now.""More modules for less popular applications and better documentation.""The solution is a little obsolete.""I think the ease of deployment needs to be looked at. It would be great if the deployment was faster and easier.""The solution should improve predicting events and flaws in service. It also needs to improve integration with other systems."

More BMC TrueSight Operations Management Cons →

"One thing we'd like to see is mobile native replay. They don't have a timeline on it yet, but that's one of the key things we're looking at, to get rid of one of our incumbent products that does replay.""Training is required for all of the people who will be using it, and this should not be overlooked. I would even recommend nominating an SME in each of the three areas covered: user behaviour analysis, development, and infrastructure/operations support.""One piece that we think that's missing is, there were thread names that were missing in analytical information in the Dynatrace solution, versus the AppMon solution. The AppMon solution gives you that information, and it is very helpful for connecting dots and bringing all the pieces together.""Enterprise application monitoring for synthetic, as is, only captures http/https transactions.""The only challenge is that it's an extensive tool that requires a significant amount of time to learn.""We need more AI in the product to avoid manual analysis.""They've leveraged those security gateways and renamed them ActiveGates, and now there are different web plugins we can run on it... Sometimes the development of those seems to be running very fast and it's not complete. They don't yet function quite as easily as the OneAgents do. But I have hopes that that's going to get better. We have tried the MQ, the Citrix, and the Oracle ActiveGate plugins. They could be sharper. It's the right direction to go. It just seems like it could be smoother.""I would like a testing module focused on quality gates."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The licensing model is expensive compared to its competitors, but the service it gives to your business, and the data quality, means that it's worth it."
  • "The licensing model for v9 is better where it is an individual license per server, while v10 licenses are per JVM/ .NET and server instance. The latter model appears to be the model that other APM vendors are using."
  • More Aternity AppInternals [EOL] Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Use conservative figures. In terms of hardware, monitored servers and also effort. The product is not cheap. But as with other products, you get what you pay for."
  • "The solutions are not the cheapest but are robust and stable. License model is rather complex and BMC do often change the model."
  • "Pricing is very high."
  • "We pay license fees of between $150 and $200 per asset. There is an enterprise software license fee, and then you pay a percentage for your maintenance, and then Premier Support. For example, if you buy a two-year license for the product, then the maintenance fee is added to that for two years at X percent a year. Then there's a small fee on top of that for Premier Support..."
  • "Pricing is all volume-driven. I think we were paying between $80 and $85 per license. That's per unit, for a perpetual license. You pay it one time and then, every year, you pay 20 percent of that for annual maintenance and support. But now that we've grown, we've purchased tens of thousands of licenses and the cost per license has gone down to something like less than $30..."
  • "It is a large, complex product. So, there is a commitment of manpower to deploy it, as it is not a cheap product."
  • "There is a big upfront cost when you buy the license, then there is annual maintenance. We look at, if I bought a license and paid for maintenance for five years, then average it out, what would be my monthly cost. We have had some of the competing tools come in around four dollars. This is coming in as a premium, which is why I don't have it deployed as I would like it. Therefore, we're in negotiations right now. If I can get it down to the four dollar range, I will triple my deployment in a year and a half."
  • "The only possible additional cost that I can mention, that you might not be aware of, is that it uses Oracle partitioning, if you use Oracle. There are Oracle partitioning fees that go with that."
  • More BMC TrueSight Operations Management Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Pricing is based on the number of servers monitored, so for big applications, it is a bit expensive."
  • "Licensing is a bit complicated for Dynatrace, and pricing is dependent on how much your organization invests."
  • "We found an issue within the first week of ownership that has been costing us more than the entire license cost."
  • "Product pricing can seem a little over complex, however this is minor and does not detract from the benefits of the solution."
  • "Getting the first agents installed, getting information, and coverage in a initial set of systems can be done in hours and with a low cost entry point."
  • "Price (of the product) is a major concern for all the clients I work with."
  • "The licensing model is confusing in solutioning clients for the number of hosts needed to deploy."
  • "The product is superior to others, but it comes with a price tag that is often difficult to position back to clients."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by BMC TrueSight Operations Management users.

Mudassir A., Sr. Technical Consultant at a tech services company, says, "The event management part of TrueSight Operations Management, in my experience, is probably the best in the market. You have endless flexibility. You can build your own rules, you have the MRL language, and you can implement any kind of logic on the alerts. It may be correlation, abstraction, or executing something as a result of the alerts. You have almost the whole range of options available for event management using the available customization."

A General Manager - Sales at a tech services company explains, “There are many features that are most valuable in BMC TrueSight Operations Management. First, its proactive monitoring feature is highly developed. BMC TrueSight Operations Management is an intelligent tool that's able to understand day-to-day operations and consistently gives alerts. The alerts are not automatic for some activities, e.g. some alerts are given monthly, while some are given more frequently. The consolidated dashboard where you can enjoy a single pane of glass to look at the full infrastructure from the servers to the VMs, to the clouds, to the application, to the database, to the network devices, including having a topology, and having a tendency map of the topology of key offerings, is also a valuable feature of this solution.”

An Information Systems Computer System Controller at an insurance company states, “The business event manager tool that consolidates detailed information from a single instance of equipment is the most valuable thing for me. It provides support for the business tools and the IT services which come from several systems.”
