Considering my previous experience with other tools, the initial deployment was easy. It was not hard.

  • Project Diversity and Frequency

We deploy at least one Arcserve UDP project a month here, and I do all the pre-sales work. We have various projects: full cloud projects (sometimes they work, sometimes not, depending on the client), full on-premises projects, hybrid projects, multi-site projects, multi-datacenter projects, and private cloud projects.

We've had better experiences overall with the private cloud projects using Acronis. So, we have a little bit of everything here.

  • In-House Deployment and Challenges

We deploy entirely in-house. We have a very competent team and skilled Arcserve specialists, so we don't usually require outside help. However, there was one case where we needed support because we didn't know the root of a problem during implementation. So, implementations can be rocky because the performance isn't always consistent with our sizing.

In this specific case, the cloud hybrid solution wouldn't work at all, regardless of what we tried. The platform wouldn't connect to Amazon Web Services.

We eventually asked for help, but even they couldn't resolve it. That project was suspended, and we had to change our approach since the service we were providing used a direct cloud backup method. Luckily, this was an isolated case, and usually, we keep everything in-house.

Overall, the deployment process requires around two to three people.

Arcserve UDP is deployed on Windows machines, and during installation, it may crash, causing an impact on the servers. These factors may also contribute to an increase in installation time. The overall implementation was easier than other solutions.

The initial setup is not difficult, but we need hands-on experience to do it. We have a team that is pretty experienced on Arcserve. Our technical head and I have 30 years of experience in backup recovery with various companies. We understand the business pretty well. The setup is pretty straightforward for us.

If we have one server running Oracle or Microsoft SQL, or MySQL, we can deploy the product in two to three hours.

The initial setup is straightforward. All you need to do is protect the computer online and then the whole server, which you will save as the backup store after setting up the networking and the local admin, where ShadowProtect will use it virtually. After that, authenticate to the backup store, then install it.

The setup is not complex, but it could be better. Many organizations provide intuitive interfaces that are more friendlier. Some companies are on the cloud, but larger companies still have their servers on-premise. For newer applications, organizations move to the cloud.

Arcserve is a very easy solution to deploy because the infrastructure and UI are very user-friendly. It's very easy to deploy. If I remember correctly, I deployed the apps or solution across my new virtualized infrastructure in less than 30 minutes. It worked out of the box.

The initial setup is very easy. I'd rate the ease of implementation nine out of ten. You only need one person to deploy the solution. If you need to work on allocating data center appliances, two or three people might be needed. Technical knowledge of the solution and some knowledge of the data center equipment is necessary.

The product could be deployed in a day with the help of our company's technicians and our customers' resources.

The product's deployment process was straightforward.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

The installation part was quite good and straightforward, so it could be done in a day. The technicians involved in the installation of the product noticed the problem with the green lights in the tool, after which Arcserve's technician used to make our company's technicians sit and ask them to test this and that day in and day out, which wasn't a good process since it blocked the customer's time.

We can deploy the solution in a VMware environment within two to three days. However, a Microsoft hypervisor environment's deployment takes 15 days to complete. You need two resources to complete the process.

In the previous version, the initial setup required the installation of several tools in order to get things working properly. Many of those tools have been combined in the new versions.

The new version is supposedly easier to use, but there is still a lot of fine-tuning to be done, which they may have corrected by now.
