We don't often have crashes or bugs. Our problems usually stem from reliability issues – the difference between what we size the solution for and what the tool actually delivers.

It's not really bugs, it's just that features don't work reliably in practice. Sizing accurately is very hard because the performance varies depending on the application, legacy systems, and the types of files being backed up.

We usually overcompensate in our sizing because of this limitation. It's a flaw of the tool – it doesn't reliably predict performance based on the types of files being stored, making sizing difficult.

Arcserve's documentation is very poor in this regard, so we've learned through experience not to rely too heavily on their sizing tools. Those are the main reliability issues, not frequent bugs or crashes.

We did have one case where a client upgraded Arcserve, and an old legacy system they depended on stopped working due to compatibility issues – but that's a common problem, not specific to Arcserve.

The tool is pretty stable. Once we implement it and start the backup, everything runs without any problem. There's very little support required. We probably get one or two calls in a year. We do proactive support. We reach out to the customer every month to do a recovery test.

It could be a more stable solution in terms of cloud usage. As for a cloud server, the controller of the physical server needs to be present for the backup running.

The green light of the product was always green, meaning it was looking good and stable, but some data wasn't available when you wanted to restore it. According to me, it is not a stable product.

I think the solution is stable but we had an issue with the JBot a while back. We wanted to add extra disks and when we tried to do that the entire backup was destroyed. The issue was not connected to Arcserve but it caused a huge problem for us.
