What is our primary use case?

We use it for monitoring our entire network. We head off a lot of problems with some early alerting on either storage or high utilization, thus we can get in front of problems before anybody notices. We have the solution tied into our help desk system so the alerts open up help desk tickets, then the guys look at it from there. We use it for troubleshooting devices that are not reachable. We also use it for backing up our firewalls and logging into all of our network equipment.

How has it helped my organization?

It has cut down on some of our major issues. We are very reliant on our printers, printing title documents, etc. The early alerting on those printers, i.e., when they are having a problem, has been enormous. For example, if somebody has a closing going on, we can avoid them having issues with printers.

The solution helps us put out fires before people or end users even know there is a problem.

The solution automatically updates network topology. The network topology has been great, not only just for troubleshooting things, but also for training. I can show newer or not-so-experienced guys what a network looks like from the top down. Also, we have used the network diagrams for our audits, where we just kind of print it out and hand it to them. It satisfies all of those requirements.

The automation of network mapping enables junior network specialists to resolve issues directly, freeing up senior-level team members to perform higher-value tasks. We have our map up on a board in the office.

What is most valuable?

The alerting is the most important feature. 

Once it is set up, it is very easy to use.

Its network discovery capabilities are awesome.

TrafficInsights has given us better visibility. In the past, the TrafficInsights feature has helped show us where our system is experiencing performance issues. We have had high firewall utilization reported, and it appeared as, "These are the traffic insights that you are asking about." We had some high firewall usage issues. We were able to take it down to a single device that was copying files that it shouldn't have been at the time. We were able to find that using the TrafficInsight dashboard.

What needs improvement?

A room for improvement would be integration with our help desk system.

For how long have I used the solution?

At my company, we have been using Auvik for a year. Personally, I have been using it for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability has been great.

The maintenance requirement is just adding new devices and occasionally configuring a new appliance that it doesn't recognize, such as giving it a name. There is a lot less maintenance with this solution compared to other solutions that I have used.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Its scalability is good. There are no issues with it. We have Auvik loaded on everything.

There are four of us who work with it. I pretty much handle the maintenance of the solution. They tell me what needs to be done, then we kind of do it together. They are mostly just in Auvik looking at the alerts, etc.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support has been fantastic. We used them a lot in the beginning. Recently, we have not used them as much. We use them now for adding a new site, which was a billing question. The technical support has been able to quickly answer everything that we have sent to them.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

It was a straight-up replacement for PRTG. We switched to Auvik for the ability to do the network mapping as well as the ease of using the network mapping. Switching solutions didn't save us money on licensing, though. 

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward.

It took three months from the beginning to have it running the way it is right now.

The setup time for this solution is similar to other solutions that I have used or evaluated.

What about the implementation team?

It took some assistance from Auvik's support desk, but it was easy to set up.

What was our ROI?

Auvik has decreased our mean time to resolution for the issues that it alerts us on.

Auvik provides automated, out-of-the-box device configuration backups. We didn't have to do anything. It was all out-of-the-box. The automation of the backups saves us an hour a device. We were backing up once a month previously, and that took about half an hour to an hour per device. We have about 30 devices. So, it has saved us approximately 15 hours a month because we don't have to do this manually anymore. It is saving us about $18,000 to $20,000 a year.

Easily, within the first few months, you will start getting your money back. It has saved us a lot more than it cost us.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is in line with everybody else, but you get so much more. 

Auvik is billed by network device. They bill our firewalls and networks. However, there are devices that are not subject to billing in our environment, such as PCs, phones, and printers.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did look at other solutions. We looked at PRTG's newer solution and HPE's native solution. We went with Auvik because of the network mapping and its ease of use. I also have experience using it from a previous job.

What other advice do I have?

When you are stuck, I would recommend using Auvik support or their professional services, which are very good. It makes life so much easier.

Auvik TrafficInsights shows us network bandwidth usage without the need for expensive, in-line traffic decryption, but this is not critical for us.

In the network monitoring world, the solution is 10 out of 10. It is the best.

Before Auvik, we would check each system independently, which was time-consuming, and some things weren't being monitored at all. Auvik allows us to easily monitor our systems without devoting much time and personnel to monitoring. We haven't used it long enough to realize the full benefits of the platform, but we see the potential. 

What is most valuable?

Auvik's email alerts are convenient because we're always monitoring email, and it's easier to receive the alerts in your inbox. 

What needs improvement?

We schedule backups in the middle of the night, and a high volume of data passes through our networks during those backups because it backs up everything for a couple of hours. That generates alerts in Auvik's monitoring systems saying that these network ports are at 99 percent utilization because they're being maxed out. 

I'd like to have a way to mute alerts during these hours. There's no way to whitelist this activity within a set period. I want to be able to tell Auvik not to send me alerts about high utilization on these ports between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m.

While the web interface is somewhat easy to use, it was hard to find a few things. I would rate the interface seven out of 10. We had to reinstall the monitoring software on some of those machines, and it didn't work, so we had to do everything manually with no UI. 

I would rate the network map five out of 10. It didn't draw everything exactly out correctly. The textual representation of the network map was more useful than the graphical view.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Auvik for about 15 days.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We've had no issues with instability so far. 

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Auvik is pretty scalable because you can have as many devices and monitors installed at locations as you want. We haven't experienced any availability issues. 

How was the initial setup?

Auvik is deployed on-premises, but some things are monitored remotely at different locations. The initial deployment was very easy. We installed the software and entered the credentials. Something did go wrong when we were installing it at an off-site location. The software wasn't connecting to their system, so we had to uninstall and reinstall everything manually. That site was a bit more difficult, but the installation at the main site was straightforward. 

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I like that you only have to pay for a minimum of five systems with an account, and you can monitor server software for free. Auvik only charges for certain devices, such as firewalls, switches, etc. That pricing model works out nicely for us. You don't need to pay for everything. You could have five switches and 100 computers, but you don't pay to monitor the computers. There are seven categories of devices that you need to pay for, and the rest are free. 

What other advice do I have?

I rate Auvik eight out of 10. My advice to new Auvik users is to make a network map ahead of time to ensure it discovers all of your devices. It may discover 50 devices when you know you have 60. It could be that some IPs weren't scanned or it is missing some credentials. It helps to have something you can use to check.

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution to monitor our network devices and servers, get alerts if devices go down, and get alerts when they come back up, which is important. Auvik alerts us about abnormal network traffic and certain ports on certain network devices or high utilization and high bandwidth. We're going to use it to monitor our virtual servers and virtual systems that of which our servers run. It gives us good visibility into our network.

We're a resort and have about 800 employees. It is a single network with multiple VLANs. It is relatively straightforward, but we have a lot of remote buildings connected by fiber lengths. Therefore, it's spread out over about 1600 acres of property.

How has it helped my organization?

Auvik bridges a lot of gaps for us. We have several remote locations on our campus, and there are network devices that are spread out. They're not manned all the time, so if a tree falls down on a data line or if the power goes out, for instance, a lot of times we wouldn't really know about it until people come on the property or go to that location and let us know. Auvik lets us be more proactive by telling us exactly when something goes down, and we can respond to it as soon as possible rather than waiting for service disruption for a user.

It also bridges the gap as far as backing up our systems and backing up the network switches, which, before Auvik, was a manual process. Now, we don't even have to do it; Auvik does it automatically.

What is most valuable?

I like the fact that it's easy to set up and learn our network. I've used some other systems where it takes a lot of time and effort to manage the monitoring system, so you get what you put into it. The nice thing about Auvik is that you put the credentials in, put the agent on the network, and it just does its thing. It sets up alerts that you would most likely turn on anyway without even having to do it. If you add another new device to the network, it detects it and sets alerts up for that device. The other feature I really like is the network switch backup. It backs up the configurations of all our devices. We can go back and look at the history of the configurations as well. It's a feature that the other systems I used didn't even have.

There is one portal to access everything that Auvik does, that is, it provides a single integrated platform. I don't have to access it through any other panes of glass. It's important because when the Auvik device is in your network, it uploads all the data to its cloud. That's nice because you can access that portal from anywhere. You can access it from a phone, tablet, or PC.

We previously used multiple applications for managing our networks. It wasn't an all-in-one system, and we'd have to manually do a lot of the tasks that Auvik can do.

It's very easy to use the monitoring and management functions. It's automated and keeps itself up-to-date. If you want to monitor traffic or monitor a specific device on your network, it will already be up-to-date. You just click on it and view it.

The network visualization is very intuitive. It's easy to use and navigate, and if you have any questions, the technical support staff and account manager can answer any questions you might have. I didn't really have to read any manuals or receive any training on Auvik. It's easy to install, configure, and get going.

Auvik helped to reduce repetitive low-priority tasks through automation. It automates the network switch backups, which would take four or five hours a month to do before. It also eliminates the need to tune our monitoring system because it does it itself, which is very nice.

Our IT team is more available for higher-priority tasks, end-user issues, and training because we're spending less time doing menial tasks.

Auvik helps to keep device inventories up-to-date. We have other inventory systems as well, but we can use Auvik to keep track of workstations, servers, printers, and other devices on our network. It even keeps track of printer toner and paper, which saves time.

We have seen a reduction in our meantime to resolution. Auvik helps us to be more proactive and lets us respond to issues faster.

What needs improvement?

If the out-of-the-box price was about 30% lower, I think it would have allowed us to purchase it sooner. It definitely costs more than some of the competitors that are out there. It's also better, so I understand why it's a little bit more expensive.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Auvik for less than a month.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Auvik is stable. I haven't had any issues yet with either the collector or the cloud.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used WhatsUp Gold previously and switched to Auvik because it is easier to use, is more robust, and has better features. It's a more mature, better product.

Auvik is cloud-based but has an on-premises component to it, which feeds the data to its cloud. The good thing about that is that I don't have to do any updates or upgrades to the software. Auvik takes care of that for us. They will update the collector that is on-premises as well as their cloud systems. With the previous on-premises systems that we used, we had to manually upgrade them periodically ourselves. Auvik eliminates that.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward; it was one of the easiest systems to deploy. I implemented it out-of-the-box, and it literally took me about 20 minutes or less to get it going. I downloaded the virtual server, installed it on my virtual system, booted it up, gave it an IP address, let some firewall rules through, and signed up with an account on the Auvik website. At that point, it was talking and running.

The somewhat harder part is adding all the credentials that you need for it to talk to the different systems. Auvik gives you usable, good data within 20 minutes.

After the collector was implemented and once the credentials have been added in for the network devices, within 20 to 30 minutes the network map started to populate. It's amazing how it updates the map pretty much right away.

If I were to compare the time and cost it took to set up and maintain Auvik versus that of the solution we used previously, the cost is higher by 50%. However, the installation was quite a bit faster. It took probably 20% of the time it took me to install and configure the other system, and the maintenance, if any, is definitely less with Auvik.

Maintenance-wise, we make sure that we update credentials if we change passwords and tune alerts a bit to make sure that we're not getting bombarded with emails that we don't really care about. Auvik is straightforward and finds everything on our network for us and keeps us posted.

What about the implementation team?

I worked with my salesperson who knows the system really well, which is very rare in the IT space. I had a few questions, and he worked with me on some configurations. He was able to get me a quote and configure my system.

What other advice do I have?

If you are comparing network monitoring solutions but are concerned about pricing, my advice would be to look at the big picture. You may spend less money on a solution, but you're going to spend more time configuring it and keeping it running properly. You may have to manually do some tasks that aren't featured on the cheaper version of the system. Overall, you'll probably end up spending the same amount of money with labor savings.

Auvik is straightforward. I recommend looking at the time it's going to save you, and take that into consideration when purchasing it or looking at the price. Overall, Auvik does more than a lot of solutions, so it's definitely a good time saver. I would definitely recommend it and rate it at nine on a scale from one to ten.

What is our primary use case?

We're a managed services provider that caters primarily to movie theater clients. Most of our Auvik collectors are deployed at active movie theaters and point-of-sale environments.

We use Auvik to get alerts on network activity and server resource utilization. We monitor firewalls, interfaces, traffic bandwidth utilization, and VPN usage. Auvik alerts us when a VPN or other device goes down. We monitor aspects like port utilization and which switches are being used for what or how much traffic goes across ports.

We don't automate anything through Auvik. We have other tools we use for automating tasks on our systems. We're utilizing Auvik specifically for visibility into the networks and SNMP-assisted log alerts and functions like that. When those are triggered, other tools outside Auvik run the daily automation routines.

It provides a single integrated platform for monitoring, but we use some other RMM tools to log into our servers and things like that. Those have some monitoring built into them, so we get duplicate alerts along with those. If a hard drive on a server fills up, I'll get an alert from Auvik and our RMM solution. But there's no other platform offering more monitoring or alerts that Auvik's not giving us. Auvik gives us more than what all of our other platforms give us, and it's all in one spot.

How has it helped my organization?

Auvik helps us be proactive versus reactive. We stay ahead of the curve by getting alerts and knowing that a problem could potentially occur. The ability to resolve potential issues before they become a problem is a massive benefit for us.

The visualization is excellent, and our customers will speak to that too. We often export the map it creates and hands it off to customers, so we don't spend lots of time manually creating these things in Visio or Lucidchart. We don't have to use any of those kinds of tools anymore.

I might have had trouble with the visualization if I hadn't had all those sessions with them to walk us through all the technical points of it. There's a lot of information, so it's like trying to drink from a fire hose. They handed all that information about filtering and using the solution in those technical calls. I think they know that you'll get hooked and become a long-term customer once you get familiar with it and understand how intuitive it is.

The visibility into remote networks has been immense. It's quite a big project to swap out some network switches for a new customer. We weren't familiar with the current network. We deployed Auvik on the web and scanned the switch ports to understand what was on the other end of each switch. It helped us replace those switches and plug everything into their new destinations on the correct VLANs. It's a huge deal for us.

We have it set up so that various alerts go to different teams. If an alert comes in for hard drive corruption on a desktop, that will automatically go to the manager of the help desk team instead of the server infrastructure team. That works pretty well. 

Auvik keeps our device inventories updated, saving us time because we know what is deployed and what has been decommissioned. It's also helpful from a billing perspective. It was a manual process of exporting reports from our RMM solution to do billing per device. We can do it all through Auvik because we can see what is active and what isn't.

We're a pretty small shop, so Auvik has helped us a ton. I would spend two to three hours a day manually doing this if we had to put it down to an actual number. With Auvik, it takes no more than 30 minutes of just browsing through alerts in one spot, creating tickets, assigning them to our resources, and taking care of things that need to be done.

What is most valuable?

Configuring alerts is pretty tedious. It would be nice if they had a wizard who walked you through instead of having everything turned on or off from the start. 

For example, it could have some radio buttons and ask you, "When this kind of alert happens, where would you like the alert to go?" Is it push alerts to a cell phone or an email address? Is it simply alerting? I think an initial onboarding wizard would help you to build out Auvik and get more out of it from the front end.

For how long have I used the solution?

We first used Auvik when it came out or when ConnectWise started pushing them. That was in 2019. We used it for about a year. I don't remember why we stopped using the product, but we picked it up again eight months ago and have been using it consistently since.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We've been with Auvik for eight months, and we've had a few alerts that Auvik collectors are not communicating with the solution. We had three of those in an eight-month period, and they were fixed within an hour. I'm pretty sure some of those came in overnight while they were doing maintenance. The uptime has been reasonable. 

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's pretty easy to scale up Auvik. We cater to movie theaters, so many of our sites are cookie-cutter from our end when we set them up. It would be nice to have the ability to copy a site and apply the template to another site. 

This may be a solution that they offer, but I don't know. We've never been able to do that before. In terms of deploying the collectors, the scalability is fine. After that, you need to go in and approve all the networks you want to scan. That takes at least an hour.

How are customer service and support?

I rate Auvik support nine out of 10. I needed some help setting up an alert to monitor the VPN. I needed to get an alert if a specific VPN tunnel went down. I had no issues with that. They sent me a quick knowledge base article on how to configure the alert.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we used some open-source solutions called Observium and Libre. They're both SNMP and sys log monitoring tools hosted internally. We had to maintain the servers and do the updates. A lot of time went into that, and it would break frequently. When it broke down, we'd lose a lot of data and dedicate significant resources to maintaining the solution. That's the main reason we switched back to Auvik. Once we got into Auvik, we realized we got so much more data through it.

Auvik's cloud platform was a critical reason why we switched. When you're hosting an on-prem solution, you need the resources to maintain it. You have to apply patches to the software and maintain the infrastructure it's running on. In terms of capabilities, Auvik is like a hybrid solution. The platform is on the cloud, but you have an on-prem collector agent running these scans. There aren't any gaps in the data that it can obtain, and it's much easier not to have to maintain the infrastructure.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment was straightforward. You create a site on the web portal, and it gives you an installer. You download the collector onto the device you want to monitor, and it starts collecting data. After deploying the collector, the network map takes 15 to 30 minutes.

We have Auvik deployed to around 25 sites, and our networks are heavily segmented. We have to create extensive rules on our end, which isn't necessarily an Auvik thing. We want one device to see everything on every network segment and VLAN. You have to have a rule specified for that. It took an hour at each location to get Auvik fully deployed. We started with those technical calls to understand the controls needed in the firewalls. Now we have a template that we use to deploy.

Configuring the alerts took four to six hours worth of technical calls. A lot of those were global. Those alerts could trickle down through each customer site as we had them set up. Our previous solution probably took the same amount of time to onboard a new site. At the end of the day, we have no internal resources dedicated to maintaining the infrastructure whatsoever. It runs and collects the data. We just log in and review it from there. It saves us at least two to three hours per week in the long run. It doesn't require any maintenance after deployment. 

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In our experience, you get what you pay for. Everything is priced based on its actual value. I think Auvik is on the pricey side, but it has been worth it for us. It depends on how much you will use this and the level of visibility you need into the networks you're monitoring. Some managed services providers don't do much monitoring, while others monitor extensively, so it depends on how much it means to you. If you go with a low-end solution, you'll miss out on quite a few capabilities. On the higher end, you need to justify that cost.

I understand the pricing model with it, but I don't know the details about how much we pay monthly. I am not usually the one that handles it within our organization.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not look at any other solutions this time around. Initially, we were a ConnectWise customer, so we got a free trial to test it out. After we left, we decided to come back because it was a project where we needed visibility into a customer site. I knew Auvik provided that capability, and we did it. Once the owner of our company was able to get in and poke around through that, he was like, "Oh wow." So, he decided to sign back up for it.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Auvik nine out of 10. To implement Auvik, you must understand what you're trying to monitor. If you don't know where you're trying to go, it's much harder to pave the road. You must understand how to allow that monitoring within your infrastructure before trying to get it. 

We ran into a problem when we were deploying the collector and were only getting limited amounts of data because particular ports are closed on the firewall. We weren't getting alerts within Auvik saying something wasn't happening because it was blocked. It just wasn't working, so we had to figure out the hard way to create rules in our firewalls to allow the collector to get its data.

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case is for monitoring networks, traffic, etc. 

How has it helped my organization?

The solution provides us with alerts if anything goes down. We have an RMM tool, but if an entire site goes down, then the monitor we use for RMM will also be down and unable to inform us that it can't reach other devices. With Auvik in the cloud, we still get alerted if something goes down, such as a firewall or core switch. We received alerts through Auvik that we didn't get from our RMM tool, allowing us to get ahead of issues with our clients.

The product affects our IT team's availability; it frees up their time by helping them troubleshoot quicker and making them available for other tasks. 

We have seen a reduction in the mean time to resolution (MTTR). Auvik currently plays a small role in that, but once we leverage it more, we expect it will have an even more significant impact. It's more our overall tool stack that helps lower our MTTR.   

What is most valuable?

The mapping is excellent as it allows us to see where elements connect and got us out of a few binds. I accidentally wiped the configuration of three Meraki 48-Port Switches, and we could see each of the VLANs and their configurations using the solution. We utilized Auvik to see how individual ports were configured, which allowed us to get back up with much less effort than if we hadn't had Auvik.

Auvik provides a single integrated platform, which we integrated with ConnectWise for reporting. As far as viewing from within Auvik, it's a single pane of glass, and that's pretty significant for us, especially for scaling. 

Auvik is excellent for helping us visualize network mapping, especially as we can filter by network devices. We can easily see where all switches interconnect, which isn't as important in smaller environments, but we have a few environments with upwards of 15 switches. It's essential to visualize if one switch goes down, whether it will take down the entire network or if it is safe to take it down for maintenance. We know exactly what will go offline and how important that would be to us. Auvik allows us to hover over specific ports to see if they are connected, which is especially useful if we have to go on-site for troubleshooting. The overall intuitiveness of the network visualization is good, though there could be improvements; SNMP is only on some devices, which can limit our ability to get information from those devices.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

At a previous company I worked at, we used ConnectWise Automate, which wasn't a great solution. It was a hope and a prayer that we got the monitoring portion correct and used whatever we could find, not anything centralized.

How was the initial setup?

The first deployment was relatively straightforward, and the fine-tuning took more learning and familiarity with the tool. The deployment at the company I'm currently with was much smoother as I was more familiar with the product, and it was relatively seamless.

I carried out the initial setup by myself for the most part, and the solution requires minimal maintenance. We go in occasionally to see if there are new devices SNMP has been found on, find out which devices and get them added.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm unfamiliar with other network monitoring applications, as I've been using Auvik for so long, but it is one of the more expensive solutions. However, we have used the product to troubleshoot different issues. For example, one of our clients had an issue where their phones were constantly going down, and nobody could figure out the problem. We put Auvik on the network and found a loop in their switches, so it simplifies our lives, increases resolution speed, and makes us look like competent technicians.  

What other advice do I have?

I rate Auvik eight out of ten. 

My advice to others is if you want to know all the details and all the ins and outs of your network, Auvik is the tool for you. It makes visibility easy and shows how everything is interconnected.

Regarding the solution reducing repetitive, low-priority tasks through automation, we're getting there. We don't currently use much automation on the Auvik side, more on the RMM side.  

The solution affected our IT team's global visibility into our remote and distributed networks, and they've been able to use this for troubleshooting. This visibility is more important than our IT team currently appreciates because they need to be more familiar with all the solution's capabilities to leverage it fully. As the tool isn't used to its full potential, its visibility is not as vital as it could or should be. 

Regarding Auvik helping delegate low-level tasks to junior staff, it helps somewhat, but it's another area where we need to utilize the solution's full capability. One other technician and I deal with the alert tickets, and we sometimes send them to our service desk, but we mainly deal with tickets ourselves. We could delegate more, but at the same time, dealing with the tickets ourselves helps prevent issues from growing larger. 

The solution helps us keep device inventories up to date to an extent. We use a combination of Auvik and N-central, our RMM tool. Auvik can get some information that N-central cannot, such as important information from Meraki devices, including serial numbers. The tool can push this information to our PSA, but it also has limitations. Our RMM tool tends to be better for pulling data from desktops and laptops, but in terms of network devices and equipment, Auvik is more effective for inventory purposes. This is another area where we need to leverage the solution more, including focusing on high-value tasks and delegating low-level tasks to junior staff. 

Auvik keeping device inventories up to date helped save us time for network devices but less for workstations and servers. It has helped us out when trying to find out where a device is, as we can utilize the solution's inventory.

What is our primary use case?

We install the product on all of our customer's endpoints. As an IT services consultant and provider, we depend on it to help us monitor the SaaS applications in use in customer environments. This includes monitoring for shadow IT, but equally important is being able to monitor license usage of approved apps and report that usage back to our customers.

Our customers' environments range from a handful of users to hundreds. Most of them are heavy SaaS users, and most work in at least hybrid environments, if not completely remote. Many of our customers are highly regulated or work with highly regulated customers themselves. All of them have intellectual property they're concerned about safeguarding, as well as customer information. 

This solution is one of a set of tools we use to control and protect these environments. It's one of the most important. Knowing about and stopping data from being stored or otherwise transmitted to unapproved SaaS applications is a primary concern for our customers, as it can cause regulatory violations or data loss and exposure - of both their customers' data and their own IP. It works quickly and proactively, allowing us to prevent these problems.

How has it helped my organization?

The product provides important insights into application usage for our customers and for us. Many of our customers are in highly regulated industries, and all of them have concerns about security. Our customers are also concerned about the proliferation of subscriptions they are signed up for. The solution allows us to monitor all of these things. We can provide reporting for audits and as part of our monthly reviews. We can detect and respond quickly to people using unapproved applications. 

We find that it is incredibly easy to install. Early in our use of the product, we worked with the development team and were able to work out a simple process for us to remotely install the tool through our RMM. Doing so is now a routine and fast part of our onboarding process. Management is zero effort on our part.

Overall, the solution gives our customers significant piece of mind, helps them save money, and removes a complication from their business. For us, it's a breeze to use and very dependable.

What is most valuable?

Reporting is critical for us and our customers. Many need to present documentation of their efforts to protect their data and their IT environment during audits. We can periodically generate reports from the product and store these in a convenient location. These are then at hand during audits, so our customers don't have to scramble to prepare.

Shadow IT monitoring is huge for us since so many of our customers are highly regulated. Being able to quickly detect and respond to Shadow IT usage is incredibly valuable for stopping potential regulatory violations.

What needs improvement?

Integrating some LLM/AI capabilities into the product that would enable us to use natural language to query the tool and get sensible answers back would be great. Being able to integrate that with Slack or Teams would be even better.

We are always looking for ways to shave time from operations tasks. Even without LLM/AI, being able to integrate some degree of real-time query from a tool like Slack would be very useful. That would eliminate some of the need for us to check the portal and various customer tenants to get the information we need.

We've used the solution almost since it was first developed. It's been part of our toolbox for several years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We've never run into any issues. The software works and doesn't interfere.

We didn't use a different solution previously. We adopted the product early in development, and there weren't many competing products available. Since then, competitors have come out, yet we've stayed with this solution not only due to what it does but due to the quality of the team and company (Auvik).

The initial setup is very straightforward. We've completely automated the installation. The Auvik team is great at helping with this.

What was our ROI?

There's significant ROI to our customers, both in avoiding the downsides of Shadow IT and in managing their SaaS licensing. Our ROI comes in that we are adding value to our customers' IT and security operations while not incurring significant costs or time to do so.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We feel that the solution is incredibly affordable and fits well into our portfolio of tools. Setup is very easy and has been easy for us to automate.

There wasn't much else available at the time we started using a solution of this nature. We have looked at other solutions since. However, we prefer to stay with Auvik.

What other advice do I have?

Shadow IT monitoring and SaaS license management used to be uncommon thing. In just a few years, it's become table stakes. Any company not doing this is missing an important part of what IT needs to perform to secure the enterprise and manage costs. This solution provides an easy-to-use and affordable way to do this. I recommend it very highly.

What is our primary use case?

I am the network administrator for our company, and we use Aruba Central but we're looking into Auvik to see what else we can do with it. We're seeing quite a bit of difference.

How has it helped my organization?

We have been using multiple applications for managing our networks. Switching to Auvik has been amazing. It has been impressive. Without Auvik, I go through five different applications every morning, clicking through everything. It's very irritating. I have Auvik open in front of me right now and it's simple.

It definitely reduces repetitive tasks with its automation. One of the biggest things is the mapping records widget. With our current system, I have to do the mapping. If we replace an item or we change an IP address, I have to go back through everything and change what I've done. I go through the five applications in the morning to figure out my APs, my Cisco equipment, my Aruba equipment, my Blancco Management, et cetera. Auvik saves a lot of time and a lot of repetitive work.

I can go into it and get a configuration file. With some of our other solutions, because not all of our switches are Aruba, I then have to go to the switches to pull the configuration files. With Auvik I see all of them here. It doesn't matter what brand it is. It saves me a lot of time.

The automation Auvik provides has allowed us to see areas that we need to fix, which, of course, is very important. And it has reduced our MTTR because I see things more quickly and I see things through Auvik that I can't see through Aruba.

It would improve things a lot for us [if we continue beyond our trial of the solution]. It noticed a drop on my network at the instant it was happening and sent me a notification. We had a couple of devices that were questionable and Auvik said, "Hey, you have Raspberry Pis on your network." To me, that's very important. I don't like Raspberry Pis because they are easily hacked and I don't want them on my network. So far, what I've seen with Auvik in terms of notifications has been great.

Another benefit is that it keeps device inventories up to date. It notifies us about firmware updates and about what we need to change, which is nice and has saved us time. It tells us everything. I like it because if, for example, the device is a phone, it tells me the subnet that it's on and the IP address. It's great.

We are trying to get a full package together to go to our vice president and say, "Hey, this is what Auvik has done for us and we need to continue." Right now, we have five different software tools that we're trying to use and manage things, while Auvik is one. I'm fighting very hard to get Auvik.

What is most valuable?

One thing I like about it is how it maps the network. It shows all my devices and it shows everything that is possibly connected to the network. Most of our network is in the cloud and the mapping starts with basic internet, where it is. It gives me how many devices or switches are connected, and what is connected to each switch, including how many printers are on it. We have Blancco Management and our backup servers, and Auvik tells me how many of those are connected. It gives me everything. At this minute it shows me that 346 devices are connected to our network and what they are. That's beautiful, and I didn't have to do it. I have had to go and map out, by hand, every device on the network with what IP address it's set to. That's a pain.

And the visualization is very eye-catching. It's easy to use and very self-explanatory. If something is eye-catching it makes people go into it more. I really like that.

I also like how it even tells us that printers are low on paper.

To me, it's very simple to use the monitoring and management functions of Auvik. We were setting up the SNMP with Auvik yesterday and everything on it—setting up our firewalls with it—is very simple.

It also seems to be a single, integrated platform. We have 26 switches and hundreds of devices and it has detected everything. So far, we're very pleased with it. I take care of our network in Oklahoma City and in Memphis. Being able to see everything in one place is very important. With Aruba Central, I'm only able to see the switches in Oklahoma City, and I can't even see my APs because my APs are not Aruba. Aruba only lets you see Aruba. With Auvik, I'm able to see all the types of devices that I have, which is extremely important.

We have a lot of remote users. It's nice that we're able to see them and keep up with what's going on there. That visibility is extremely important. We have a very small IT team and we have to stay on top of things quickly. Ours is a larger company and, with a small IT team, things can get away from us very quickly. It's nice to have that full visibility and those upfront notifications so that things don't get away from us very quickly.

What needs improvement?

The window view could be improved. For instance, if I'm in inventory and I'm looking at my devices, I don't like the way the window splits at the bottom. I want to be able to choose the way it appears.

Similarly, when it shows me all the devices on my network, I don't like the fact that I can't adjust the display to the way I want it. I can increase it, but it's very difficult to move up and down to see that part of it.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been on the free trial of Auvik for 12 days.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I'm very impressed with the stability of Auvik. I have not had it go down or had a major issue. I haven't even had a small issue with it.

When comparing network monitoring solutions and there is a concern about pricing, my approach is that you get what you pay for. The functionality is extremely important to me. The pricing is extremely important to my VP. You need to write out the pros and cons based on your needs and figure out how the pros and cons compare with your budget. But I would suggest you give Auvik a chance.

What other advice do I have?

I like Auvik's cloud-based solution much better than having an on-prem network monitoring solution. We still have a couple of servers that are not cloud-based. I like the cloud much better.

If you are looking for any type of monitoring software, make sure that you find a product that sees every type of device on your network. Auvik even shows me the redundancy that I have on there. For a network administrator that's very important.

We're an MSP, and we have deployed it to monitor the customer network and environment and make sure that the configurations are backed up and know when things were done.

How has it helped my organization?

It's easier to manage than what we used before, and licensing-wise, it's easier to understand what you're going to be paying for and not.

It has reduced repetitive low-priority tasks through automation, especially configuration backups. The time saved depends on the customer and how many configuration changes we make. It's difficult to measure it.

Previously, we didn't have visibility into our remote and distributed networks globally, but now we definitely do. This visibility is important. At this point in time, it's an invaluable piece of what we do. So, it's very important at this point in time.

What is most valuable?

Automated configuration backups and automated network diagrams are the most valuable.

What needs improvement?

The one feature we need is that when something goes down, we need a phone call, a text message, or something like that, not just an email alert. This is something they don't do. So, we have another service that does that for us. It would be nice to have that integrated into this, but at the moment, we have a way around it, which is with another partner of ours. It's not like we have to sign up to a new service for it, but it would definitely be nice if we can set up more detailed alerting schedules and things like that. However, we have found a way to make it work.

The automated network maps are really nice. Sometimes, I wish we could make the manual tweak to them because sometimes, it doesn't quite get what the network is like, but overall, it's doing a great job. It's a lot easier than doing it manually. Where it misses the mark is that we would want to make some manual tweaks, which is not possible, but the overall intuitiveness of the network visualization is pretty good.

Auvik helps to keep device inventories up to date, but I just wish it would be easier to sync with our overall inventory software. At the moment, most things live in Auvik. We would like to think it should be possible, but we haven't been able to get that to work. So, there's still some improvement to get there, but overall, it has definitely been an improvement.

Syncing the assets that are in there through a third-party program definitely needs some improvements. There should be better synchronization of its assets to different asset management platforms. The alerting capabilities can definitely use improvements. We use third-party for that at the moment, and then the way they look for performance on network equipment is really heavy on heavily used devices, such as firewalls. It taxes certain equipment pretty heavily when it does performance monitoring. So, the SNMP calling that it does can be way improved.

I have been using this solution for about five years or so.

Its stability is very good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Its scalability is good so far. We use it for a variety of different customers but not all of our customers. We have about 20 sub-customers in our portal at the moment, and they are across the US with multiple locations in some instances. So, it's deployed in a variety of different ways.

How are customer service and support?

I have interacted with their technical support. I would rate them a seven out of ten. In the beginning, they were way better and closer to a nine. Lately, it's been less.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using LogicMonitor. At the time, LogicMonitor was overly complicated for what we needed it to do and also more expensive.

How was the initial setup?

It was straightforward. We've deployed it at 20 different customers so far, and there was probably one instance where we needed to make some network changes for it to work. For most customers, we needed to add SNMP credentials and things like that, and generally, it just worked. When we get the correct credentials in place, after the collector is implemented, network mapping starts to populate immediately.

In terms of the time and cost to set up and maintain Auvik versus our previous solution, the previous one was also cloud-hosted. So, there was no maintenance cost there. So, it's the same, or it's virtually none because it's cloud-hosted.

In terms of maintenance, it's just set up and go. Auvik takes care of all the software updates, and you don't need to worry about anything. With an on-prem solution, you normally need to do the upgrades and everything yourself. However, some high-compliance customers can't give any data to the cloud providers. If we need to have something on-site, we can't use Auvik. That's the only issue we have, but for everything else, it's an advantage to have it in the cloud rather than to self-host.

What about the implementation team?

We did it in-house. We are the integrator for other customers, and we've done more than 20 installations of it.

We have different people doing different deployments. It depends on the complexity of the network, how many searches we need to add SNMP entries to and gather credentials for, and things like that, but generally, it takes under an hour to set up the site and the collector.

What was our ROI?

We have definitely seen a time-to-value with this. I don't have the metrics, but I know it does what it needs to, and it saves time.

We have seen a reduction in our mean time to resolution (MTTR), but it's very difficult to know how much because previously, we didn't get alerted or knew of any issues going on. Now, we do, and now, we mainly get alerted before issues become issues. So, we can prevent them from ever cropping up, but it's very difficult to put a number on that.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is good, but I haven't looked at the pricing in a while. So, I don't know if it has changed or not. As far as I know, the pricing is still where it should be. I have no issues with it.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We didn't look at other solutions. It was recommended by a partner of ours. So, we looked at it. It did what it needed to do, and that's why we went with it.

What other advice do I have?

If you're considering it, just install the trial, and it'll sell itself.

It's pretty easy once you get to know it. It's not that difficult. If you want to get into the advanced details, as with any software, it takes a little while to get used to all the advanced options, but in general, it's pretty easy to use. Its ease of use is important, but more important is that it works if something happens, which it does.

I am not sure about the effect its automation has had on our IT team's availability. It's difficult to say how busy they would be with or without it, but I would think it would have had a positive impact.

Overall, I would rate it an eight out of ten.
