Our primary use case of ScienceLogic is as a monitoring tool. We wanted something adaptable that could monitor numerous environments and specific monitoring based on the vendor. We're a supporting organization with 170 data centers around the world. I'm a technical lead and we are customers of ScienceLogic. 

The most valuable feature is an OS that enables the deployment of a virtual machine. The product provides agentless monitoring which is based on SNMP so there's no need to install the monitoring agent on each and every server. Other credentials and monitoring are also included. We get great reports and integration is also excellent. This is a simple, easy-to-use tool. 

We often face bugs when there's a new release. 

I used this solution for six years. 

This is a stable solution and there are rarely any issues.

Scalability is good, we can increase the number of users we want. 

We have premium support so the customer service is generally good. They sometimes choose to lower the urgency of our request and then it can take a few days to get a response which can be an issue for our customers. 

Positive

The initial setup is pretty straightforward. Deployment time depends on the infrastructure. If you have less than 1000 servers, then the setup doesn't take long and can be completed within a few weeks. A larger deployment will take longer. 

The solution is an OS so a license is mandatory.

This is a pretty user-friendly tool. Much has improved in the newer version from a monitoring perspective. Everything will be in the UA so nothing is required at the back end. 

I rate this solution nine out of 10 because of its simplicity. 

We use the solution for monitoring networks, applications, and server environments.

ScienceLogic has all functions in one solution.

The user interface could be improved. The sizing and footprints of the central environment need improvement, too. 

The solution lacks functionality. The main issue is the granularity of user management.

I have been using ScienceLogic for three months.

The product is stable.

The footprint and complexity of ScienceLogic can require significant memory, CPU, and disk space. This can lead to overloaded servers and components, resulting in a sluggish user interface.

A total of 400 users are using this solution.

I rate the solution’s scalability a six out of ten.

We had very limited contact with customer support.

I can compare it with Broadcom. ScienceLogic is cheaper with less functionality.

The initial setup is very complex.

ScienceLogic comes with a good price.

I rate the product’s pricing a ten out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive.

Overall, I rate the solution a six out of ten.

We use the product to monitor our servers, network switches, and other devices. We can check if there are any issues with the patching.

ScienceLogic allows us to create and customize a user-friendly dashboard. Additionally, there are role-based access features for admins.

Admins do not have direct access to the reporting. It goes first to the AIOps team, who have access to reports. They forward based on what is required and requested through us. We have to follow up protocols to get through that. It needs improvement. 

I have been using ScienceLogic as a customer for the last nine months. We are using the latest version.

Initially, we encountered customization-related issues. I rate the product’s stability a six out of ten.

Adding resources is easy and accessible in ScienceLogic. You can customize and monitor and can have automated management. You can write automation scripts with the right level of access and send alerts and notifications. It is a built-in feature, but only some have access to it.

In my team, we have 25 ScienceLogic admins. In the AIOps team, we have another 50 users. Its scalability is a seven or eight out of ten.

Our AIOps team manages the application and does the customizations for each team. They initiate contact with the technical support team.

The setup is straightforward. It is easy to manage and check for alerts. The classification of alerts is specific. It makes it easier for admins to manage alerts. We can quickly identify what is critical and a warning-level alert. We move the managed servers across the network while migrating the clients' data from other products to ScienceLogic.

ScienceLogic is a great tool for system administrators. It is convenient and feature-rich, with a lot of customization options available. The dashboards and support information are very specific and detailed; you can customize it for convenience. The pre-built information is also very useful and granular, making it easy to identify problems. The alert levels are well-defined and can be customized for each customer. ScienceLogic is also very intuitive and can automatically pick up signals and categorize alerts.

ScienceLogic's alert system is already top-notch, but you can also customize it further to meet the needs of each customer specifically. For example, you can set different alert levels for different SLAs. You can also customize the alert notifications to be sent to the appropriate people. This way, you can ensure all alerts are handled quickly and efficiently. We can also customize the alert levels depending on the nature of the issue. The alert system is designed well and provides very specific load ratings. However, we can customize the alerts per our customer's SL agreements.

Overall, I rate ScienceLogic an eight out of ten.

ServiceNow API integration - Allows us to automate monitoring alerts for our internal infrastructure as well as our client environments.

Highly Customizable - The platform is capable of almost anything in terms of reporting/monitoring/alerting. If I determine there is something I need to be monitoring, I can quickly create an event that will be generated. When combined with ServiceNow intergration, our Support Team can quickly address issues.

Phone-Home Collectors - Having the ability for the collectors to report back to a central database over the internet is an amazing feature. Rather than spending weeks establishing a Site-to-Site VPN with each of our customers, we simply provide and ISO file to our clients and input the address/key of our database. We can turn up collectors in a matter of minutes.

I work for a Managed Service Provider and we rely heavily on our monitoring/alerting platform. One of the primary functions of our Support Team is the acknowledgement of alerts and communication with our clients on the health of their environment. ScienceLogic has given us the ability to generate tickets directly from monitoring events. When a client requests that we provide alerts on a specific function/feature being unavailable, I can typically create a new event policy that fits the bill.

Our Client team works to provide meaningful information to our clients in the form of reports. ScienceLogic allowed for us to create PRI utilization reports that we can send to our clients. The automation / scheduling of the reports reduces the administrative overhead put on the Client team and myself.

Simplified Interface - ScienceLogic can be a bit overwhelming when you begin working with it. The amount of customization is sometimes too much. A simplified user interface would help to alleviate this.

NetFlow Support - I would like to see ScienceLogic support Netflow so that it can be used to identify applications that could be affecting network bandwidth.

Configuration Backup - Another feature I would like to see added to ScienceLogic. It is unfortunate that I have to use different systems to perform certain functions of a Network Management System (NMS)

We have used the solution for approximately 2 years.

There were no deployment issues to my knowledge. I wasn't part of the initial deployment. However, the infrastructure consisted of a Database, Administration Portal and Data Collector. All were deployed as virtual appliances on a VM host.

Overall, the system has been very stable. In the two years we have had the system, I have only encountered two instances where the database would experience issues. It would lock up and collectors would stop sending data to it. A system reboot typically cleared up any problems I would see.

We have not encountered any scalability issues yet. We have grown from monitoring 100 devices to upwards of 500. The system doesn't seem to be experiencing any problems.

The customer service has been excellent. Whenever I have a question or require assistance, they are helpful and polite.

The Supoort Team consists of some great engineers. I feel confident that when I submit a support ticket, I will get an engineer who understands the system and how to best resolve the problem I am experiencing.

We were not using an NMS prior to ScienceLogic. As we grew, we wanted a way to provide monitoring/alerting and ticket generation from the platform. ScienceLogic fit that bill perfectly.

The initial setup is straight forward from a high-level. We received assistance from ScienceLogic on the initial installation / configuration. I was not involved in the actual deployment but it sounded like it went well.

We worked directly with ScienceLogic on the installation. I was not involved in the initial deployment. The co-worker who deployed the system seemed to be happy with their level of expertise.

Licensing is based upon the number of the devices, as well as the tier of the device being monitored. For example, a Tier 1 license is going to cost less than a Tier 6 license. I suggest that you appropriately classify your devices in the proper tier. Otherwise, you may find that the automated discovery of the devices will put them in the incorrect tier.

Our team evaluated SolarWinds as well as ScienceLogic. From a pricing perspective, ScienceLogic was superior. Also, the deployment of ScienceLogic was better suited to our Managed Service Provider environment. Having to establish Site-to-Site VPNs for all of our clients would significantly increase the deployment time. The phone-home collector available from ScienceLogic is an excellent solution for any MSP.

Enhanced predictive analytics.

We can monitor many different areas of infrastructure: database, network, Wintel, Unix, Linux, etc. and combine them into one dashboard instead of needing to send out alerts. For example, instead of a CPU alert, we can provide a dashboard and allow the team to manage it themselves. I don’t need to send the events anymore, I can provide a visual representation of what’s going on in their environment.

We were able to increase the monitoring coverage of both our legacy and public cloud based infrastructures, while also cutting costs by over $2 million across a five year period.

We expanded monitoring of infrastructure elements by over 500%.

Our previous solution lacked monitoring support for hybrid IT environments. We would have needed to invest more than $10 million to retool our then monitoring solution to meet our needs. We knew that we needed to move from a Legacy Based Framework Tool to a Hybrid IT Monitoring Platform.

We decided that a “cloud first” strategy was the most appropriate strategy for us and began deploying new workloads to Amazon Web Services. Our move to a hybrid IT model presented several challenges, one primary challenge was monitoring an environment split across datacenters and AWS. Our existing IT operations management solution did not provide monitoring for both onsite and AWS based resources. Further, it did not provide the flexibility we needed to discover and monitor elements that appear and disappear in moments within a cloud-based environment.

We researched for 3-months in order find the best hybrid IT monitoring platform for our needs. I did an analysis of 25 distinct vendors comparing 100 different capabilities and 100 separate security concerns. After the completion of the analysis, I put the top 3 providers in a weighted average spreadsheet hiding their names, to ensure an unbiased result.

We were looking for a monitoring platform that, beyond supporting our hybrid IT needs, could provide separate dashboards to individual contributors, dramatically reduce costs, proactively alert when potential problems were approaching, and significantly cut the time it took to perform root cause detection.

We’re now able to monitor our entire IT environment, both onsite and offsite in AWS, from one solution, with 1/5 of the staff that would have been required with the legacy solution.

ScienceLogic can be deployed on-premise and on the cloud. It is up to our clients what cloud provider they want to use. They can choose from many of the cloud vendors, such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. Most of our offerings are still using the IBM cloud.

We are only using ScienceLogic for infrastructure. It can be for a small account, it could be a large account. Most of our large accounts are Fortune 500 companies. We have some of the large accounts around the globe, which are using ScienceLogic to manage their business.

I'm satisfied with ScienceLogicfor for what they can offer today because they can offer both serverless connectivity and agent connectivity.

I have been using ScienceLogic for approximately eight years.

The stability of ScienceLogic is great.

I have no problem scaling ScienceLogic.

The support that ScienceLogic offers is very good and responsive.

The initial implementation of ScienceLogic is straightforward because often we use our cloud services and the only thing we need to do is add collectors on the client's environment and then connect into the cloud offering. The installation of the collectors and making them connected to the network into the servers that we have on top of the cloud is not complex.

The pricing model for ScienceLogic could improve.

We decided to use ScienceLogic instead of IBM tool monitoring which we evaluated.

The benefit for ScienceLogic is they are agentless. This is one of the most benefits of using ScienceLogic. You often don't need to install any agents. When we used other solutions the agents caused us some delays in progress.

I rate ScienceLogic a nine out of ten.

It's an IT infrastructure monitoring tool. It's mostly used by the IT team. It monitors the environment like the server database and cloud environment. 

ScienceLogic is a good tool. It has good capabilities as an SaaS product. 

It has good monitoring capabilities across cloud environments, data centers, and hybrid environments. 

It covers lots of technologies from a monitoring perspective and with its AIOps and event management there. It has good capabilities around that. 

I like the APM, the topology mapping they have, and the business service mapping that they can pick up and then feed into any CMTP like in the ICMTP. It has a good feature in that area. It's a good tool from a utilization perspective for monitoring the environment.

The scalability is excellent.

From a performance perspective, it needs to improve a lot. Even though it says that it's enterprise level, we have seen lots of issues from a monitoring perspective. When we monitor a huge volume there are problems. We need more customizations on the templates. They're not that useful. To customize it, you have got to go through a lot of effort. 

The professional support that ScienceLogic provides most of the time does not have that skill set to help.

The stability could be better.

I've been using the solution for five years.

We have had issues with stability. When it is in a huge environment, we did have seen some issues around the stability in that area when using it for monitoring large environments.

The product has outstanding scalability. We did not see many issues around that so far.

Support is lacking. They are not very knowledgeable sometimes.

It is easy to set up. It is a SaaS product and has agentless monitoring. From a setup perspective, it is easy.

The deployment depends. It can be set up in two weeks or six weeks. However, normally, we're seeing the deployment done in two to three weeks. It's a quick deployment that is happening. It all depends upon the environment and the requirements that need to be there. Generally, it's a quick deployment.

We have seen an ROI.

The monitoring tool does not give a return on investment in the first year. Normally, it happens in the second or third year. In the first year, it is more about improving the capability of their environment, and managing the environment. From the second year, they resolve incidents or improve visibility. So from the second year onwards, ROI may not be that high, however, we have seen that customers are getting that benefits.

They are subscription based. From the pricing model perspective, it's very simple, and licensing is not very complex. It's based on the number of network devices. They have some calculations which are very straightforward and very easy to use. There are no hidden charges.

We are a partner and reseller.

The product has multiple deployment options. They do offer us a SaaS product. Therefore, it's available in the public cloud. Users have the option to deploy on-premises. It can be deployed in a private cloud or according to the customer's requirements. It has the flexibility to do that.

I'd rate it a seven out of ten. 

It's a good tool for monitoring hybrid environments. I would recommend it to others from a hybrid monitoring perspective and from a server database perspective. However, it does not have good capabilities for monitoring networks. It should not be used as a network monitoring solution. It needs to be more focused on infrastructure.

ScienceLogic is multi-tenant from the ground up, starting at the code level. With many other tools, you have to trick them into behaving in a multi-tenant fashion.

It gives us the ability to monitor everything from Windows and Linux servers to physical and virtual servers, SANs, network equipment, and firewalls.

Built-in event correlation and analysis intelligently suppresses expected and known events, while escalating alerts for urgent events.

The built-in runbook automation has helped drive greater efficiency.

The ability to quickly build our own monitoring templates for non-traditional equipment and network interface support.

It’s a platform which we’re able to integrate with. It's very flexible.

We now have intelligent alerting to distinguish between critical and normal notifications. The monitoring can scale as we grow.

Improved efficiency by using built-in runbook automation.

Extended monitoring coverage to non-traditional equipment.

We were able to reduce the number of environmental related tickets going to our helpdesk, by over 40%

We’re a growing cloud services provider, and set out to build a framework that would provide the scalability we needed to support future growth. ScienceLogic provides scalability beyond our current needs.

We were using a number of different tools to monitor our infrastructure and a large amount of time was spent separating urgent alerts from notifications. We needed to consolidate tools. We found that we could consolidate nine of our tools to their one monitoring platform.

In the end, the level of coverage, ability to scale, and built-in multi-tenancy gave ScienceLogic’s platform the edge in our comparative analysis.
