Darktrace Scalability

Luis KiambatA - PeerSpot reviewer
Director de Desenvolvimento Tecnológico at Cetim

Most of our customers are mid-level companies.

It's scalable, depending on the size and the range. For example, if we have to change appliances, the number of devices duplicates. If we measure an appliance for 300 devices and then the customer has 600 or 1,000, then we have to see if the box is viable. If not, we have to change the box. That said, it's very much scalable in terms of capacity.

The whole security team has access to it. That said, I have the most hands on in terms of the product. Five or six people use the solution.

We had a sense that it was going to handle our network without many problems. We have a few hundred endpoints of all types, and there was no problem. We had three users on the solution.

Since we weren't really entirely familiar with the product we were, I'd say we were probably using 10% to 20% of its capabilities.

The vendor has different options for scaling. I use the appliance; they also offer a cloud service but I prefer the appliance. I put it between the router and the core switch and it picks up all of the traffic.

It's not high on scalability, in the box itself. You don't need scalability to scale out the server like that.

There is one that is able to monitor the entire network. Our entire IT department is on the product. We have a three-person technical team. We may expand usage later this year.

In terms of scalability, you would need a separate device for every location. For our particular hospital, we actually have three or four main facilities, or what we would consider main facilities. You'd actually need to have a physical box for every deployment in order for traffic to be efficiently detected. They did say that we could route the traffic from the site through the box. However, essentially, that would be doubling the traffic load, which didn't really seem like it was a wise decision. As far as scalability, the box that we had was very capable of handling the traffic load that we were producing. I would say we are probably using maybe ten percent of it at the most at peak levels.

I cannot say if we will increase usage. We have many offices and decisions in relation to usage increases would come from our UK office.

The scalability of Darktrace is excellent. If we want to increase the IP count it is just a matter of negotiating the licenses. We have already upgraded to the largest model of their hardware, and scaling is nice and simple in that situation.

It has sensors that you can install. So, it can scale on-prem and off-prem in the cloud.

It is being used extensively. We have 2,000 employees. We use it to protect IoT devices. We also use it to protect Windows servers, desktops, and laptops. Its usage would increase if the net grows, but it's probably not going to grow too much bigger than 2,000 employees.

In terms of scalability, it is ok.

It's a behavioral analysis solution, so we are not actively using it. We analyze all the user traffic from the Darktrace. That's the main thing.

There are about 3,000 users. All the 3,000 user traffic is going through Darktrace.

We don't do the maintenance for Darktrace. My vendor is maintaining it since we got the product from them.

We are analyzing attempts to connect to them. After that, if you want reports, they provide them. We have a service and everything with the vendor. Then, if we have any requirements, they do it for us. The solution is working all day and my team is analyzing two hours for that.

We didn't need to scale the solution, but you could scale it without any issue. The only thing that I think you had to keep an eye on was network traffic through your switches because effectively, you're capturing all the traffic on your network on a port that goes to this device.

In terms of scalability, it is fine. We have deployed Darktrace for around 7,000 to 8,000 users for one part of an entity, and it has been working fine. I don't see any issue in terms of its scalability.

Currently, it has around 7,000 to 8,000 users, but it is getting extended. We are in the process of extending the Darktrace capability to other entities. We are talking about 1,500 entities and 120,000 users in different dispersed and segregated environments.

We do not intend to scale. Scalability is more of a contract issue that comes into play if you want to add nodes to the system. We are opting for a specific number of nodes or endpoints, which we would be able to keep for quite a number of years. I don't expect that we will expand that much, so scalability should not be an issue.

It is very easy to scale. When you need more appliances to support the infrastructure, you can use them as LEGOS. In order to place them, the only thing that you need to have is a rack, and you can start connecting them to the switch, and that's it. Once that you have it on the main console, you just assign the role to every single appliance, and that's it.

We're very focused on big companies, but we also have medium customers. The reason why we don't sell it to the small companies is that this type of solution is very expensive for them to finance. So, probably the assets that they have are very important, but based on the budget that small companies have in Latin America, they cannot afford a solution like this.
