Stable with an easy initial setup but needs more analytics capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "The product is scalable."
  • "Technical support could be a bit better."

What is our primary use case?

I've primarily used it for experimentation. I don't just use it for commercial purposes. We already work with Azure and AWS clouds and we decided to consider the usage of Oracle as well. I run IA services, for example, when creating VMs and storage or configurations.

What is most valuable?

The IA services, including storage, creating VMs and databases have been great. The database services in particular are excellent.

The initial setup was straightforward.

The product is scalable.

The stability is good so far.

What needs improvement?

I don't have much detailed knowledge or experience in improvement areas. I need to first be more hands-on in my approach. I need more time to learn the technology, as I'm not as comfortable with it as I am with Azure and AWS.

Technical support could be a bit better.

Azure and AWS offerings are on a much bigger scale. Those who use this product must be Oracle-centric, which isn't the case with the other two. Whereas Oracle seems to be geared more towards databases only and Oracle only.

The analytics need to be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for a few use cases, however, not to its full potential. I've used it for maybe six months or so. It hasn't been that long.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability so far has been good. I don't recall dealing with bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of the solution is very good. If a company needs to expand using it, it can do so.

We only have one customer on the product right now, however, a few customers are already planning to move their services to Oracle as well.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is good. they're okay. They could be a bit better, however, we're mostly happy with them.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I also work with Azure and AWS.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very straightforward. It's easy to execute. It's not overly difficult or complex.

What other advice do I have?

We are a customer, however, we do have clients on Oracle's cloud.

I'm not actively using the solution; I occasionally use it for certain projects.

I'm using the IA service version.

I'd recommend the solution to other users and companies.

I would rate the product at a seven out of ten.

Stable, with good availability and good security
Pros and Cons
  • "The security on the solution is very good."
  • "The solution isn't very mature. The on-premises deployment has more features and the cloud needs to work to match those options."

What is most valuable?

The sign on is very good.

The availability of the solution is excellent.

The stability offered by the cloud has been great.

There are a lot of really good product features. It offers everything from mobility, to analytics, to business processes.

The front-end is like Jet, and it's pretty user-friendly.

The security on the solution is very good.

What needs improvement?

They must improve the integration layer. It must have everything and be able to integrate with on-premise options a lot of features are not provided on the cloud.

In the Oracle BCS business process, when you create an XSG file and make the integration layer with the base in XSG, there is no validation code in the XSG. Therefore, when you add the field required or field string, it's not checking this validation as it does on-premise.  In the cloud, you need to clear the JavaScript file and validate this field. This is the main problem and they can't in the cloud.

The solution isn't very mature. The on-premises deployment has more features and the cloud needs to work to match those options.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for about a year at this point. It hasn't been too long.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is extremely stable. On-premises solutions may face issues related to CPU usage, however, as a cloud product, you don't have these issues. It makes it very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

As a cloud solution, it's very scalable. It's the main purpose of having a cloud. It's very flexible and scalable as it can expand on the cloud.

Curently, we have ten people who use the solution in our organization.

I don't believe there are plans to increase usage in the future.

How are customer service and technical support?

I've dealt with technical support in the past. It could be improved upon. We need support in the area of customization. It's a pretty new product, so it needs to provide certain features to our clients, and we need technical support to troubleshoot for us.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We didn't previously use a different solution before implementing Oracle.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not complex. It's straightforward. Basically, you just connect it, it's like an on-premise deployment.

What about the implementation team?

I'm able to handle the implementation myself. I don't need the assistance of integrators or consultants. It's pretty easy to accomplish without the help of an outside professional.

What other advice do I have?

My organization is just an Oracle customer.

I've been very impressed with the solution. It's a very good platform.

I'm unsure which version of the solution we're currently using.

I'd advise others to move to Oracle Cloud. If they have a medium-sized business, it would work for you pretty well.

However, it's not a mature solution yet and needs a few more years to grow and build out features on the cloud that currently only exist in the on-premise deployment.

Overall, I would rate the solution seven out of ten.

Very robust, with competitive pricing, but needs better integration capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "The environment is super fast so you get all the underlying machines behind the data. It's a good processing machine, especially in the Generation Two Cloud."
  • "The solution requires tighter integration capabilities."

What is most valuable?

It's a very robust solution, especially for the environment that you move onto the cloud. It's quick and easy to access, and easy to manage.

Everything is governed by Oracle itself, including backups, and policies.

The environment is super fast so you get all the underlying machines behind the data. It's a good processing machine, especially in the Generation Two Cloud.

The solution makes it easy to access testimonial articles, etc.

There's an autonomous database, which is very useful. It's very efficient and easy to use and allows users to spend more time in other areas other than backup and recovery.

Pricing is very competitive. You are getting a good stack in Oracle because you're getting exit data and the backend along with the real application clusters, etc.

What needs improvement?

The Generation One Cloud doesn't have a great interface. We're using Generation Two and it's much better.

We have not tried it yet, but Azure integration would help a lot. Nowadays, it's all about having a multi-cloud platform. Integration with Azure is something we need to look into, especially on the SQL server to make sure the 2019 and 2017 SQL servers are supported.

The solution requires tighter integration capabilities.

There should be regional expansion in the availability of the solution. AWS and Azure offer much more availability right now. They have availability for almost all regions.  Cloud is something that almost every region needs to have it, so they need to make sure availability exists in Qatar.

Overall, every solution can use small improvements here and there. This solution is the same. We're still in the early days of using it, however.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been assessing the solution and have not deployed it yet. We're assessing it alongside Microsoft Azure and AWS. We do have hands-on experience with the solution, however.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. Like any other cloud platform, every day there are improvements and enhancements being done, as well as products that have been added. It's becoming more and more stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. It had to be to manage the workload we have. Scalability is one of the most important aspects of any cloud solution.

We have about 100-150 users. We use it on a medium scale, and not too heavily right now.

How are customer service and technical support?

We haven't spoken with technical support yet.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've personally worked on Amazon Cloud Services. I'm certified in it. We're currently in the evaluation stage of a few different products.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. It's straightforward with easy to manage sites. Deployment takes three to five minutes and the machines get provisions fast. We were impressed overall with the setup procedures.

Currently, there's just one person managing the solution, and eventually we'll need help from a system administrator and an AD person.

What about the implementation team?

We handled the implementation ourselves.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We're looking at a pay-as-you-go option for licensing. Ultimately, we're likely to pay monthly.

In terms of comparing the solution to Azure, the pricing is pretty competitive.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We've been evaluating AWS, Oracle Cloud and Microsoft Azure.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. We're new to the cloud, so we need more time to evaluate its capabilities.

A stable solution with an autonomous database, but managed services for Postgres are not available
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Oracle Cloud is its autonomous database."
  • "Managed services for Postgres are not available in Oracle Cloud."

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Oracle Cloud is its autonomous database.

What needs improvement?

There are some missing services in Oracle Cloud. Managed services for Postgres are not available in Oracle Cloud. Even if you have to move to Oracle, you don't have a place to deploy applications.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Oracle Cloud for almost three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Oracle Cloud is a very, very stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Oracle Cloud is a scalable solution.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

AWS and Azure have a wide range of services compared to Oracle Cloud is a very, very stable solution.

How was the initial setup?

Oracle Cloud's initial setup was pretty straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

An in-house senior technical team implemented the solution for our organization. Initially, it took around four weeks to deploy the solution, but later it was easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate Oracle Cloud three to four out of ten on a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

Many of our customers are choosing Microsoft Azure since it is more popular than Oracle Cloud in the manufacturing vertical that we are in.

Overall, I rate Oracle Cloud a seven out of ten.

Good object storage and managed backup that helps our organization manage data
Pros and Cons
  • "The object storage and managed backup solution are valuable."
  • "The functionalities could be simplified as it is a bit difficult to learn."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case for the solution is for data. We wanted to move to cloud and get virtualized servers for a specific entity or power for cloud applications.

What is most valuable?

The object storage and managed backup solution are valuable. Additionally, we like that the charge is per user.

What needs improvement?

The solution has one of the best cloud infrastructures in the world. However, the price can be improved as it is a bit expensive compared to other cloud solutions. In addition, the functionalities could be simplified as it is a bit difficult to learn.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using the solution for a year and are currently using the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is very scalable, and the scalability goes hand in hand with pricing.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was complex and took two weeks to fully implement.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is expensive and extra costs are incurred if you need assistance with the installation. I rate the price a four out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the solution a nine out of ten. The solution is good, but the price and simplicity can be improved. I recommend the solution to users considering implementing it if they can afford it.

Great database with good stability and a very good interface
Pros and Cons
  • "The pricing of the solution is pretty good."
  • "I work with many clouds and I would say, in comparison, others have a better presentation of services and they have clearer steps in terms of implementation."

What is our primary use case?

We are solutions implementors. My first project was an e-commerce platform and mobile application for clients where clients could check credit cards and their status. It's information about the last products purchased. We used the Oracle Cloud Platform for this.

How has it helped my organization?

Since implementing the solution, our service times are much better. We have noticed the better implementation of services with the Oracle Service Bus. There has been an overall reduction of complexity in regards to services.

What is most valuable?

The database is the solution's most valuable aspect.

We appreciate the solution's computing capabilities. It has good Meter Machines. There are good expansions as well.

The database by far is one of the best databases we are using. It has resolved many problems. It's more complete in comparison to all the other databases.

The interface has been renewed and it offers a very good user experience.

The pricing of the solution is pretty good.

What needs improvement?

The marketplace could be improved very much. There are some competing clouds that have marketplaces with solutions that within a few weeks have a total ecosystem running, and that is where Oracle is very limited.

I work with many clouds and I would say, in comparison, others have a better presentation of services and they have clearer steps in terms of implementation. Oracle could be more clear in the presentation of the hierarchies of services. The configuration for a canvas needs to be very clear. Right now, it's not as good as it could be.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with the solution for about three years at this point. It's been a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have a very good impression of the solution's stability. There aren't bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's very good overall.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability seems to be very good. There seem to be many ways you can automatically scale if you need to. If a company would like to expand this solution, they can do so. However, the scaling process could be a bit more clear.

We have many clients and their sizes vary. One of my clients is a retailer and it has about 2000 employees. They have many physical stores and have e-commerce where they have been using Oracle Platform.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is very good. We have an engineer assigned to our account and they are a very fluent communicator and have been very fast at resolving problems normally.

We have so far been satisfied with their level of service.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup isn't overly complex. The only complexity was in understanding the way that the user gains access to the services. In other Cloud services, like Amazon, you have a URL that directly allows the user to go to a service. In Oracle, you have to know specific URLs, and there are too many steps to get right to your services. In that sense, it's not as straightforward. They could definitely make the process easier.

In our case, deployment took about two months or so.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The model is basically if you aren't using the solution you won't have to pay. We can turn off the machines if we don't need them and we won't keep incurring bills.

The solution seems to offer pretty competitive pricing. We haven't found it overly expensive. It's very competitive in comparison to other options.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did look at Amazon among other solutions. The decision was basically made after a series of negotiations.

What other advice do I have?

It's one of the best databases in the market. We've found it to be very stable in the new versions. You can plug it into other services easily. As a database solution, it's been very good and you can implement it very quickly.

Overall, I would rate the product at a nine out of ten.

A stable, all-in-one system for our ERP and HCM applications
Pros and Cons
  • "What I like best about Oracle Cloud is that it is an all-in-one system for everything."
  • "The integration tools that they offer are quite complex to use."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use cases are ERP and HCM systems.

What is most valuable?

What I like best about Oracle Cloud is that it is an all-in-one system for everything.

What needs improvement?

Improvements can be made with respect to flexibility in the licensing model.

The deployment should be simpler to do.

The integration tools that they offer are quite complex to use. It would be nice if integration with the SAS tools were a bit easier for end-users. There is no user-friendly interface to navigate for this. If you look at a competing product like Salesforce, it's quite easy to write your own rules. They're not strictly speaking integrations, but it's easy to do your own configuration on new fields and relationships with fields for certain other parts of the system. With Oracle, it is a lot harder to do.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Oracle Cloud for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We haven't had trouble with respect to stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This product scales according to our needs and does what it claims.

We have approximately 4,000 users.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have been in contact with technical support and I would say that they are good, albeit disconnected. They seem to work in silos, where some parts of the business understand their part well, but they don't understand the entirety of the Oracle solution well.

How was the initial setup?

Onboarding Oracle is very complex and we are still halfway through the implementation. In total, it will take about a year and a half to deploy.

What about the implementation team?

We are using an Oracle consultant to assist us with the deployment, and I can't say that I am satisfied with their service so far.

We have two or three in-house engineers who perform the maintenance.

What other advice do I have?

My advice for anybody who is implementing Oracle Cloud is to take it one step at a time. It is a good product and one that I recommend. Our implementation experience hasn't been great, but I think that the system is fine.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

Great price value and responsive support
Pros and Cons
  • "The technical support is good, they have been responsive and helpful."
  • "The portfolio should improve for the Oracle Cloud Platform. Oracle has to increase the services offered. New services should be added to be able to compete better with Amazon AWS which is the best, and the biggest service. Oracle Cloud Platform has a small portfolio, but it's a good one."

What is our primary use case?

We use Oracle Cloud Platform to move business applications, such as Oracle ERPs and Oracle Analytics, from on-premise infrastructure to the Oracle Cloud.

What needs improvement?

The portfolio should improve for the Oracle Cloud Platform. Oracle has to increase the services offered. New services should be added to be able to compete better with Amazon AWS which is the best, and the biggest service. Oracle Cloud Platform has a small portfolio, but it's a good one.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used the Oracle Cloud Platform for approximately four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We had our first major incident this week with the Oracle Cloud Platform. We have not had any other problem in the four years we have been using it. The stability and the availability that we found in Oracle Cloud Platform is really good, at least similar to what you can find in Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is good, they have been responsive and helpful.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure.

How was the initial setup?

When migrating applications to the Oracle Cloud Platform it can take between two and four weeks depending on the project. During these four weeks, we do not only do the deployment, but it also involves a two-day infrastructure deployment, we move all the applications and run all the user testing scenarios. The full project with all the project traces normally lasts approximately four weeks but the infrastructure deployment takes a few days.

What about the implementation team?

Oracle Cloud Platform architecture needs a system engineer for deployment and maintenance. Typically, the same team that is working on the on-premise architecture, with a little training can easily deploy it on the cloud.

The business applications will need someone with more specific skills.

Overall each project requires a different amount of supporting individuals.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The best aspect of the Oracle Cloud Platform is the relation between the performance and the price. When you compare the price with Amazon AWS, Microsft Azure, or any other, the price for performance is the best.

There are plenty of license options. For example, you can license the solution by the user, CPU, fixed period, and on-demand. The options are similar to Amazon AWS.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Oracle Cloud Platform an eight out of ten.
