Very stable with good ATI management but needs to integrate better with other platforms and vendors
Pros and Cons
  • "Frankly speaking, I've been very impressed with the stability the solution offers. Everything is working very well at the moment, and we haven't had any issues or faced any bugs or glitches."
  • "The solution should integrate better with other tools and different vendors."

What is our primary use case?

Primarily, we're using the solution when we get data from our IoT devices. We get a lot of data from there. We're collecting it in the cloud, and providing the cloud to our ATI.

What is most valuable?

From a platform perspective, the most valuable aspect is the ATI management.

The powerhouse management is very good.

What needs improvement?

The interface should be more user-friendly. Compared to other cloud environments, it's not as good. It should be implemented better from Passport. It should have a better link to the cloud to communicate more effectively.

The solution should integrate better with other tools and different vendors.

I don't know of any additional features that I would like to see added to the solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for about one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Frankly speaking, I've been very impressed with the stability the solution offers. Everything is working very well at the moment, and we haven't had any issues or faced any bugs or glitches.

How are customer service and support?

We've been in contact with technical support. We didn't have the best experience.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup, as I recall, was straightforward.

It only took one day to deploy the solution.

What other advice do I have?

We're partners with Oracle.

I'd recommend the solution.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. It's quite average, but effective. The infrastructure and formalizing of a custom platform need a bit of work.

Other solutions are better. Apache is also excellent.

Great price and databases
Pros and Cons
  • "OCI's best features are its price, databases, and Linux compatibility."
  • "OCI's user interface is awful and needs to be modernized."

What is our primary use case?

I primarily use OCI for databases and platform-as-a-service.

What is most valuable?

OCI's best features are its price, databases, and Linux compatibility.

What needs improvement?

OCI's user interface is awful and needs to be modernized.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using OCI for six years and version two for six months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I haven't had a single issue with OCI's stability.

Flexibility in supporting different capabilities and integrations make this excellent for moving to the cloud
Pros and Cons
  • "Just having the many options and features offered by the product through the cloud is a major benefit."
  • "The product could use some more development and maturity so it has more peripheral functionality already integrated."

What is our primary use case?

We are both users as well as a company of consultants who do the implementations of the product for customers. In comparison to an on-premises solution, I am going to say that simply the ease-of-implementation and ease-of-usage are the primary uses for us. The options and ease of deploying the cloud product make opportunities for us to work in different ways with our customers.

What is most valuable?

What is most valuable to me is a very general thing. It is just having the many options and features offered by the product. What I mean is features in terms of the accessibility of the internet, maybe some flexibility in supporting different capabilities and integrations. It is valuable to have that flexibility.

What needs improvement?

To improve this product is hard because it is already good and convenient. But I think that Oracle can add even more functionality. There are just certain functionalities that still need improvement or some brushing up and maturity to bring them up to where they should be. Even more integration and user-friendliness is possible in certain ways.

For example, at our company, we need to have some extra services right now to so we need to subscribe to them from another supplier. It would be nicer if these capabilities were already integrated as a part of the product. If some of these components could be built inside the cloud, that would simplify the architecture.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Oracle cloud for between four to five years in some form.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability for financials is okay. I work with it doing financials so that is what I know best. But other functionalities and practices we need to check out and test in the newer versions. I am not very aware of all the modules and all the broader possibilities. But for the financial, it is okay.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability still is a question mark in some forms that we have not had to test out. It should be scalable because it is on the cloud and that is one of the advantages.

How are customer service and technical support?

The Oracle technical support is okay. It is nothing great. It is the same way that it has always been now for the last 25 years. It has not changed with the onset of the cloud products. Oracle has been like that no matter whatever product of theirs they are supporting, the support you get from them is always the same.

How was the initial setup?

You are looking at a cloud SaaS product, so installation and maintenance are not required. It is maintained by the Oracle providers themselves. So, I mean it is easy to setup in the first place.

Our deployment took somewhere between four to six months. When we work with clients, how long it takes depends on the customer needs and what kind of customers it is.

What about the implementation team?

We did not need to use a consultant for the deployment or integration. That is because I am the consultant.

We have some form of a cloud solution in addition to our physical footprint. So we have a mix actually in our architecture. It is somewhat simple and maybe a little small, but it is all we need because we have a very small user base. We have plans to move everything entirely to the cloud.

Because we do client support and consulting, we only require internal staff for support of these products.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There is a subscription cost rather than licensing for this product.

What other advice do I have?

I do recommend the Oracle Cloud Platform. I recommend it for our use and we also do Oracle consulting. We use Oracle and we also recommend Oracle products.

On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate this product as eight and one-quarter. It is better than an eight, but not so close to nine.

Enables us to migrate all of ur on-premises applications and infrastructure onto the cloud
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution offers many features and it is a complete replica of our data center."
  • "With Oracle you have to create your own roles and it is more complex."

What is our primary use case?

This solution is a complete replica of our data center. Our primary use case is to migrate all our on-premises applications and infrastructure onto the cloud.

What is most valuable?

The solution offers many features and it is a complete replica of our data center. The one thing that is very high level is that it covers multiple regions to host our application. You don't have to worry about disaster recovery. You, therefore, don't have to invest in additional features - it is there by default. The solution has a huge capacity so you don't need to worry about that.

What needs improvement?

I would like to have identity access management. If someone is accessing any application, I should know about it. I think Oracle does have that feature, but with Amazon all the roles are privileged. With Oracle, you have to create your own roles and it is more complex.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Oracle Cloud for a year now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In terms of performance, the stability is good. We are upgrading to the new version that has a lot of new features.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is easy to scale because you have the option to plan your capacity. If you don't know the capacity, how much you need, you can still plan. You can start with one server at first and then there is an option to add one more server into the server pool. It handles the traffic equally. All these things happen automatically and you don't need to worry about the capacity.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is good. We faced quite a few issues when we installed the program, but the support team assisted us.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have worked on Amazon and Oracle, both cloud providers.

How was the initial setup?

The setup and deployment took about six months because we have multiple locations like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, we have Egypt and India, but we are moving one by one.

To move the application we need to move one copy of the application on the service to the cloud and test it. If everything is fine, we need to configure everything from scratch. Migration requires downtime - around a month per application.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Costing depends on if you have an existing license for the application and for the operating system. You can bring your own license and use regular licenses. So they have options. I think Amazon is cheaper than Oracle, though.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We tried the Amazon but there were some compatibility issues. The operating system versions didn't comply and that is why we chose Oracle. The cloud is getting more mature every day, advancing quickly for different kind of applications.

What other advice do I have?

I believe the developers are busy improving the solution. It's like they don't have as many features as other providers, so it takes time and they are doing their best. If you are just moving the ERP, you can use the Oracle application, but if you need more open source applications, it is better to go with the Amazon or Azure, because they have more services compared to Oracle, like an autonomous database. I have worked on Amazon and Oracle and my advice is to test it for two weeks or so and look at the price on the sales market before you make a purchase.

I rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Easy to get data in and out of the cloud but better tech support and documentation will make it more user-friendly
Pros and Cons
  • "What I like most about Oracle Cloud Platform is the ease of getting data in and out of the cloud, and the affordable licensing."
  • "The technical support is really bad, because their reaction time is extremely slow."

What is our primary use case?

We are not using the solution ourselves internally but for our customers.

How has it helped my organization?

Because of the fact that only our external customers make use of this solution, it hasn't really affected our organization.

What is most valuable?

What I like most about Oracle Cloud Platform is the ease of getting data in and out of the cloud and the affordable licensing.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see better documentation to make it easier to use, as well as more standard components offered in this solution. New features are being regularly added to the oracle Cloud, and this is not always reflected in the documentation. This can make the automation of the installation quite tricky. Right now there are many components in the database on-premises, but in the cloud that's limited. I would, therefore, like to see all those components that are offered on-premises, offered in the cloud as well. (e.g. APEX, Spatial, etc.)

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for about three years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

So far it hasn't really been stable, but it is stable enough for our customer. Stability has improved over the years, though.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Our two customers that use this solution, have 50 and 300 users respectively. I believe it is scalable.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support could be a lot better, because their reaction time is extremely slow.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was quite complex. We wanted to do the setup with Terraform, the infrastructure's code, but the documentation was particularly bad for Terraform. Not only for Oracle but for Oracle Cloud itself. We are partners, so the installation was done by ourselves and it took us about three days. We currently have two staff to maintain and deploy it.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also considered using Amazon and Azure.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others would be to take more time to deploy and to try and automate the deployment process. Due to the lack of proper documentation and complexity, as well as the poor tech support, I will rate this solution a six out of ten.
