We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
The alerting and usage tracking notifications on disk space capacity, network and processor utilization.Technical support has always been great. They are very responsive. We've been satisfied with their level of support. The interface is user-friendly, making it easy to use.The solution is extremely stable. We haven't had any issues in that regard. We haven't had issues with bugs, glitches, or crashes. The most valuable feature of this solution is the alerts. We had some interfaces where the SFP Ports were having some problems after a while. We found which of the SFP Ports was having the error and changed it, so the bandwidth become okay.It is very extensible with 'SWQL' and APIs to where we are beginning to integrate it with network automation. This has helped us to monitor the availability of our routers, switches, servers, and virtual environments.

The nice thing about Spiceworks is always it's free. Monitoring of printers for low toner. Finding machines that have low memory or low hard disk space. It shows the users that are currently logged in, which is not something that Active Directory by default will ever let you know up front. The most valuable features are the inventory and personalization. The solution can find all asset details automatically, whether it's a Mac address, computer name, IP address, models, etc. It's very helpful. The solution is very stable. It's reliable and efficient.

Cons
Complex and overly detailed setup. There needs to be more integration of widgets, especially for reporting purposes.Having more technical and support resources available in Saudi Arabia would be helpful. In terms of scalability, there is room for improvement. When you start monitoring, if you have so many interfaces and you're trying to monitor them at a faster interval, or a shorter interval, you get to a point where you need to request another node.It is difficult for stakeholders to translate technical requirements, which results in difficulties selecting a platform or implementing a solution. We are looking to change away from this solution because of the documentation and the solution doesn't have enough integration in our country. The documentation is too weak. This solution would benefit from expanding on the capabilities within the API.Application Performance Monitoring should be included in this solution.

There are a lot of disadvantages to Spiceworks because it's not an agent-based solution. The network mapping could be improved. Putting together an actual bonafide network map would be really nice.Having an integrated asset management tool, where I can plug in things that are offline, would be good.It would be nice to have remote access to the solution via a tablet. They also need remote control from a PC. Right now, to complete the technical support process, you have to have a tool to access the PC, and check the problems.I would like the solution to allow for more direct interaction with computers. I can open tickets and I can see their status, but I can't interact directly with the computers themselves.

Pricing and Cost Advice
USD $15,000 annually for maintenance.I find that the pricing is acceptable. It is expensive. Some solutions are open source and free.We have a perpetual license for this solution, and my impression is that this solution is cheap. The pricing is very expensive for SolarWinds. That's a huge disadvantage for it.The pricing needs to be improved. It is too high. One full engine costs around $10 000, which is why we don't have high availability right now.
