Veritas Backup Exec Customer Service and Support
The support from Veritas Backup Exec could improve. The support we receive is offsite, and at times when we have an issue, the person helping may be in a different time zone. This has affected the quality of support.

I used technical support years ago and it was good. The 2012 edition was bad but technical support really tried to work with it.
There was an issue with a backup that took 24 hours to resolve, but by that time the backup had expired because support forgot to reset it.
I rate technical support a six out of ten.

I have been able to learn how to use this solution on my own, without training. Where I am, in Iran, we do not have an official Veritas branch. Therefore, most of the teachers are self-taught and have not used official technical support.
When I encounter an error, the first thing I do is visit the Veritas forum. Usually, I find a solution to the problem based on the type of error. In fact, the backup forum seems to be full and complete because there is no error that I have not been able to solve.

I've used their technical support. If you can get somebody who knows what they're doing, it's good; and if you get somebody that you can easily understand.
The issues are the language barrier, as well as: You finally get somebody to call you back and you start talking with them. All of a sudden, they say, "Oh, this belongs to a different department." They shove me off and I have to wait again for somebody to call me back. It's not a very streamlined and not a very efficient way of providing support.

If they are in your time region, then you get better support, but if they're not in your region then there is a delay in the support and you lose valuable business for backup and restore. Overall, it is much better than the others.

View full review »The few times that I had to contact technical support had been a bit cumbersome. You had to keep calling and you just moved from one place to the other, and it wasn't that easy to get the support.
The online support, however, where you have to go into the portal to find the information, was much easier to deal with, compared to calling the help desk. There was enough information on the portal to be helpful if you ran into issues. Most of the time, my first option was the portal. I was able to find relevant information to help me, to get what I needed that way.
The solution is quite stable, so I've very rarely had to actually contact technical support.
