Allows collaboration and file sharing with a bigger inbox
Pros and Cons
  • "Exchange Online doesn't just do email, it allows for collaboration with inbuilt chat and calling facilities and document sharing."
  • "The demo version we were provided had issues with emails bouncing or being delayed."

What is our primary use case?

I use MS Exchange Online for corporate emails.

How has it helped my organization?

Exchange Online doesn't just do email, it allows for collaboration with inbuilt chat and calling facilities and document sharing. It also gives you a bigger inbox per account (50GB) than Gmail.

What needs improvement?

The demo version we were provided had issues with emails bouncing or being delayed. This hasn't happened since we purchased licenses, but it shouldn't happen even in the demo.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Exchange Online's stability is good once you have a license - in pre-licensing trial mode, it's not so good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is good.

How are customer service and support?

I wasn't happy with the support from the partner I was directed to and would prefer to get direct support from Microsoft. Microsoft's technical support is good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is a little complex because you don't get any assistance - you just go to a site and do it yourself. I would rate it as two out of five.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing price is ok, I'd rate it as four out of five.

What other advice do I have?

I'd give Exchange Online a rating of nine out of ten.

Excellent email solution with EOP filtering service
Pros and Cons
  • "There are many valuable features such as email, calendar, and the ability to share your calendar and documents with coworkers. Knowing that the emails go through the EOP filtering service is nice as well."
  • "I would like to have the option to have my electronic signature posted on my emails by default. I am able to add it manually but cannot get it by default."

What is our primary use case?

I am an implementer of this solution. My clients use it as an email solution.

What is most valuable?

There are many valuable features such as email, calendar, and the ability to share your calendar and documents with coworkers. Knowing that the emails go through the EOP filtering service is nice as well.

What needs improvement?

I would like to have the option to have my electronic signature posted on my emails by default. I am able to add it manually but cannot get it by default.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a stable solution.

How are customer service and support?

Microsoft always has nice support. You are able to create some tickets on the  Microsoft support pop up, it's quite simple.

How was the initial setup?

On-premise setup for one server took about seven hours in total - I would expect this time to double, triple, etc. depending on the number of servers that you have.

I would expect cloud deployment to be significantly faster - maybe two hours for 100 email boxes.

What about the implementation team?

We used an in-house team of one senior engineer and one junior engineer.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I think that the price is a little high, especially considering that Google have a similar, free email solution.

What other advice do I have?

If you are looking to deploy on-premise, make sure that you have a small data center, or even a small room for physical security. Otherwise, you should deploy Exchange online.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
