Provides the ability to test the backups and replicas of backups in our backup site.

What is most valuable?

Integration with VMware is essential, in addition to the functionality of Instant Recovery, WAN Acceleration, SureBackup, SureReplica and for the most part, it is not necessary to install agents for granular backups and restores. The adoption of compression and deduplication features are extremely important, and of course the cost benefit, because the licensing costs are not calculated according to backup volume.

How has it helped my organization?

We reduced licensing costs for our backup, as the trend of the backup is always increasing. The tool also provides significantly simpler management and easier backup and restore operations, among other factors such as the ability to test the backups and replicas of backups in our backup site.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see agents for backup of physical servers, as only agents for Windows servers have this tool. Storage backup for Linux servers is not yet possible.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used this solution for three months.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

For our environment in particular, we have not found any difficulty or deployment issue.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is excellent.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before Veeam, we used the IBM solution (TSM) and evaluated NetBackup from Symantec/Veritas. We chose Veeam because of its features, lower investment cost and ease of management.

How was the initial setup?

Deployment and configuration of Veeam to our environment was incredibly simple. We did not have great difficulties.

What was our ROI?

We are a company that provides hosting services and IT services to the government of Amazonas. With the implementation of Veeam, our ROI increased from 30% (TSM) to 70% (Veeam), over the first three years.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Veeam’s licensing provided savings of almost 55% in the first three years. After this period, the savings will be even greater, because the license cost is not calculated by backup volume.

What other advice do I have?

Evaluate the Veeam product before manking any decisions. In my view, Veeam sells itself, and a team of sales and marketing is not necessary. Let your technical team evaluate and issue its opinion.

Using Veeam Cloud Connect you can backup and restore to and from the cloud.

Valuable Features

The usability in general, support and knowledge documentation. I also find the training, and webinars useful. Apart from this, it also has specific features that are useful such as easy restore functionalities, instant file-level recovery, integration with multiple storage vendors, and explorer for Exchange amongst others. Also, its replication is very simple and reliable, as well as the synthetic full backup.

Lastly, Veeam Cloud Connect is another valuable feature. This allows you to backup and restore securely to and from the cloud. All you need to do is choose your cloud provider and it integrates into your systems.

Offers great reporting with good visibility on the dashboard
Pros and Cons
  • "Provides lots of reporting and visualization of how much data has been transferred."
  • "The solution requires a lot of bandwidth."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case of this solution is to take the complete backup of our Nutanix server and to dump it on our BR site. That's the feature we utilize. We are resellers of Veeam Backup & Replication.

What is most valuable?

The solution provides two good features; backing up of the complete server in a plan, as well as copying or migrating it to another BR site. The solution provides lots of reporting and visualization of how much data has been transferred. If there is any kind of error you receive an alert message and everything can be configured. It does both these things without impacting performance.

What needs improvement?

The solution requires a lot of bandwidth because our servers are heavy.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing is on an annual basis.

What other advice do I have?

This is generally a good solution. When I take actions on it, it gives a lot of visibility and reports on the dashboard. Technically speaking it's good.

I rate this solution an eight out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Works well in two different environments, whether it is on-premises, cloud, or a combination
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution works well in two different environments, whether it is on-premises, cloud, or a combination."
  • "If you do not use the standard software and you go with a third-party solution such as this one, it might not work the same. There is an integration issue I understand between the database standards."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution mainly for backup and redundancies. We keep historical VM images and replicate them to other data centers that we have.

What is most valuable?

The solution works well in two different environments, whether it is on-premises, cloud, or a combination.

What needs improvement?

If you do not use the standard software and you go with a third-party solution such as this one, it might not work the same. There is an integration issue I understand between the database standards.

Additionally, the solution can be difficult to manage if you do not have the training.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for approximately three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the solution is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have deployed this solution mostly in medium to large size businesses.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is very straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

When it comes to pricing for a backup solution for data centers, you do not care about the price. We just care about the service and want it to be reliable. In terms of subscription, it really makes sense. When you want to use all the functionalities it is good that Veeam did the subscription-based model, this is what gives it the most strength on the price.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Veeam Backup Replication an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

What is our primary use case?

We also provide services to our customers.

We use this solution to backup virtual machines.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of this solution is the recuperation of the weaker machines.

What needs improvement?

Pricing can be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for between six and seven years.

We are using version 11.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We can deploy as many virtual machines as we have in our environment.

We have approximately 25 users in our company.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is good.

How was the initial setup?

Once you know the concept, it is very easy to install and setup.

The deployment time varies on how many machines you have.

In one week, you can have a very good installation.

They could work at providing a better price.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used this solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There were no stability issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There were no scalability issues.

How are customer service and technical support?

I would rate the technical support a a seven out of 10.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We still use other solutions to back up the physical environment, since Veeam only supports virtual machines.

How was the initial setup?

The setup was very easy and straightforward, i.e., without any problems.

What other advice do I have?

I always recommend using all the Veeam features, not only to just create backup jobs.
