The solution is very easy to implement.

What other advice do I have?

We discovered Veeam Backup Replication with our presales people in our company. We did a POC at our office which is mandatory by our technical director when we discover a new solution. We go to the customer and discuss with them the difference and benefit of Veritas Backup Exec and Veeam and which can best suit their environment. Additionally, we show them the difference between using Veritas Backup Exec and the Veeam Backup Replication.

Veeam needs to work on their marketing for their solutions.

I would recommend this solution to others.

I rate Veeam Backup Replication a nine out of ten.

Helps us protect our IP address and critical information but needs faster recovery onsite
Pros and Cons
  • "It has helped us to protect our IP address and critical information."
  • "The only issue on which we would like to see for improvement would be, potentially, the ability to do some different things with recovery, like faster recovery onsite."

What is our primary use case?

Backing up VMs and it has been successful so far.

How has it helped my organization?

It has mainly been in dev testing, so I would say it's helped us to protect our IP address and critical information.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is its consistency.

What needs improvement?

The only issue on which we would like to see for improvement would be, potentially, the ability to do some different things with recovery, like faster recovery onsite.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It seems pretty stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I can't say that I have tested scalability.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We didn't have a previous solution. We just realized that protecting some of the important data was something that was needed at a certain point, that we needed to do.

Most important criterion when selecting a vendor would be: Does the solution it fit our needs, what we are trying to do?

How was the initial setup?

My understanding is that the initial setup was pretty simple and straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

Right now we haven't fully exercised the solution but what I'm seeing on the backup side is pretty good. On the recovery/restore side maybe not so much. We're still validating that. So I would give it seven out of 10 overall.

My advice would be, test it out and make sure it does what you want it to do. And make sure you can do what you need to get your data secure.
