JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Other Advice

Sydney Chidambaram - PeerSpot reviewer

I'm a consultant.

We're dealing with releases 2022 and 2023.

Companies need to figure out their full requirements before starting an implementation.

It's a very good solution compared to SAP. The way it is implemented needs to be carefully done, however.

I'd rate it eight out of ten.

If anyone is looking to use the latest version of this product and if you are comparing it with SAP, and you are fine to spend millions of dollars on the best possible solution, you can go with SAP. However, eventually, EnterpriseOne is going to provide you with the same functionality as SAP at a lower cost as it's ultimately a cheaper solution.

When it's boiled down to the ERP system, I would recommend Oracle EOne compared to SAP since you can do lots of customization, and you have lots of other functionalities enabled in the system. You can create an ecosystem around EOne. SAP in contrast, is very standard. You can't make lots of changes based on your enterprise requirements. Therefore, implementing EOne, compared to any other solution at present in the market, is a good choice.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. It's a modern solution.

My advice to others is they should know the way the world has changed post-pandemic. They should think about cloud solutions so they aren't dependent on hosting it on their premise. Somebody has to be in person available to support this solution.

I am using the latest version of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. The solution can be deployed both on-premises and on-cloud, but we currently update it from on-premise to cloud.

I would recommend JD Edwards EnterpriseOne to other users. Users should have the right persons and the right team. The solution will not be good for users without a good team, proper key users, and proper process documentation.

Overall, I rate JD Edwards EnterpriseOne ten out of ten.

I rate the solution a seven out of ten. The solution is good but can be improved by including a built-in data warehouse and BI functionalities. I do not recommend the solution for users in Bahrain or Gulf because limited resources are available. However, if they can support it, then I recommend it. However, I recommend it to users in the U.S. or other countries with enough resources to support it.

We are a system integrator.

I'd advise new users if you are using JD Edwards or if you are using Oracle E-Business Suite, just go on with it and stay using it for a long time. It will be supported until, the last I heard, 2030, by Oracle and perhaps even longer. However, if you are thinking about implementing an ERP solution that's new, from the scratch, I would consider one of the cloud solutions. Then you could look to an Oracle Cloud product or you can look to Salesforce - whatever suits your business. I would go for the cloud products and not for the, well, let's say old school, on-premise products.

I would rate the solution at an eight out of ten.

We are partners with Oracle.

If it's a medium or large-scale operation, I'm happy if people go for that ERP. If they want to not spend too much on their solution, like on an SAP or Oracle, this is a good option. I work for bigger clients, they have this product and they are using it for more than 12 or 15 years now and they're really happy and they're big, big, big. Therefore, the customer, if they want, could go for this product first, and if they want to go for EBS or SAP, or any other ERP, they can move over.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

I find it really good. I have limited exposure to the product, and from my point of view, it is very customizable. It is very good because we can modify the way we want. It is stable as long as we are following Oracle guidelines.

I would definitely recommend it to others. I love it. With the new versions, it has become very good.

I would rate it a nine out of 10.

Make sure that you have the right strategy on whether you're going to support it internally or you're going to hire an external vendor for it. It needs a specialized skill set; it is not something that anyone can just support.

I would rate it an eight out of 10. This is based on what I've heard from my customers and people who use other solutions. I haven't worked with too many other products to give a fair comparison.

I don't think the solution is difficult to maintain, especially if we provide good training. The solution is hard to automate, but with good training for the customer, it should be manageable.

Training is required to use the solution, and I recommend consulting a professional before making any major changes to the system.

My company is an Oracle partner. I have experience with one of the Oracle on-premise ERPs, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.

I've worked with different versions of the solution, old and new.

Maintaining JD Edwards EnterpriseOne requires at least one technical consultant and two to three functional consultants, depending on the business model. A developer is needed when creating new applications and reports.

I advise anyone planning to use JD Edwards EnterpriseOne to keep it up-to-date because Oracle provides new functionalities, so you should continually update the solution to the latest version. Keep an annual upgrade schedule, so you always have your JD Edwards EnterpriseOne in the upgraded version.

My rating for the solution is ten out of ten.

My advice to others is JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is excellent. It has multiple features and business processes of the industry, especially the manufacturing industry, out of the box. There are fewer customizations required. It can meet, 90 to 95 percent of the standard business processes' out-of-box functionality. It is a very good solution from a business point of view.

I rate JD Edwards EnterpriseOne a nine out of ten.

Most of my experience is with on-premises deployments, although I have also worked in an environment where we hosted it on the cloud. If you have a cloud-based deployment then it's managed and maintained by the vendor, although you can still have your own customizations that are unique to the business.

The vendor continuously improves this product, basing their changes according to the feedback provided by customers. At this point in time, it is difficult to asks for specific features because they're very compatible with any other system in the market.

They are very strong in the manufacturing, construction, and engineering industries.

My advice for anybody who is implementing JD Edwards is to make sure that all of your processes are stabilized and standardized. Follow the best practices. Make sure that the processes are not coming from somebody who had good ideas 60 years ago but in reality, are no longer effective.

The best thing to do is make sure that the data is clean and you have the blueprints for the business processes according to best practices.

I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.

Oracle is my company's partner, and JD is an Oracle product. It's a partner to my company, and it's a client partner, but they have a license to a product version, and they also have Oracle support. There is an Oracle support portal; we ask a question, the client asks a question, and the client asks another question. We have had discussions with Oracle about this product. If you purchase this product, you will receive Oracle support for the initial days.

When you buy JD Edwards products, the first step that you will need is JD Edwards implementation. For each model that you purchase, you will require the services of some functional experts. When you purchase it as a product, you will be purchasing some models from them. You will require a financial model as well as supply chain models. For each model, you will undoubtedly require supply chain, finance, and consulting. They will be responsible for the product's implementation.

I would definitely recommend this solution because I have had a great experience working with this product as a developer.

I would rate JD Edwards EnterpriseOne an eight out of ten.

I'd encourage others to use it, but I've been using JD Edwards for a very long time. Others would choose an SAP product over this because they over a full-blown solution. If your data isn't aligned and you don't have all the garbage taken out, you're going to end up with the same bad system you had before you implemented it.

It's forced us to adhere to business processes, where we were a little loose with our previous ERP. It's a little bit more rigid, and in my opinion, that's not a bad thing. It's definitely fulfilled most of our business needs. The flexibility is really number one up there. I have only worked a little bit with other ERP systems, such as SAP, and JD Edwards surpasses that.

When you're comparing JD Edwards to any other tool, look at the flexibility. Look at the capabilities to change it, for it to grow with you as a company, for it to support business needs that you don't need now, but you're going to need in the future. That's very important.

Make sure you get reference checks. Check with other companies that are using the software in the manner in which you would like to use it for. What were their pitfalls? What are their successes? How well has it resounded, once it's been implemented for two years, five years? A lot of software works well the first go around, but they fail after that, so you want to make sure.

It's a good attempt at answering everybody's needs. You can never be perfect on every piece of application. JD Edwards, for the last 30 years, has tried its best to be as much of an answer to everything you require, and they've done a very good job of it.

Any leg work you can do at the beginning to prepare your organization, your executives, and the information that you need to get out of a software company would benefit you greatly. All of that work pays dividends in the long run. You don't get surprises, you don't get led down the garden path by somebody who thinks they know better.

Talk to people. Talk to as many people as you can. Come to user groups. Be a prospective customer. It's all about that preparation work. Even if you have to recruit somebody into your business that's done it before, it's all about finding that information to begin with.

In around 2007, JD Edwards went through a dip and most customers moved to other solutions. Here in South Arica, most government institutions and other clients actually started buying SAP. The company then started doing quite a bit of research and made drastic improvements. Today there are few ERP systems that can actually compete with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.

For a long time already, it's been possible to run the solution on any mobile app. I like the fact that there is competition because you need different ERP's that work in certain sectors or certain industries and don't always try to cover everything. For example, there are certain ERP's which are very strong in financial institutions.

I would rate this solution a 10 out of 10.

You have to consider all options, but you have to know your business well, that is, what you're processes are and how the software will best fit your business needs in the most straightforward way. If you're in a manufacturing facility and you only make five products, and you don't need a lot of customization because you're more specialized, it might be easier. I think that's a big thing to know, know your requirements and what you're looking for to make sure that the software will fit within your business requirements.
