JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Scalability

Sydney Chidambaram - PeerSpot reviewer
Senior JD Edwards Functional Consultant at Critical Data Management (Pty) Ltd

The scalability has been good.

It is changing so quickly customers can't keep up. There's no proper roadmap planning that allows customers to skip a version. They shouldn't just release a version to be competitive. They need to only release a version when everything works properly.

It's scalable. That said, it boils down to the regional requirements since we are using it globally. So when you go to the different regions, you need to do your customizations there.

We have about 5,000 users on the solution, and we will likely increase the user base over time.

The solution is scalable and easy to integrate with others. It can extend to many things, including interfacing with other applications and API-based interfacing through databases. Approximately 150 people, from operators to the CEO, are currently utilizing the solution across different countries, including Bahrain, Singapore, U.S. and Australia. I rate the scalability an eight out of ten.

The product can scale. If you are too big or too small for the solution, if you are something like Coca-Cola worldwide, you would not use JD Edwards solely for all activities. They're too big. If you are a company of, let's say 10 employees, then you're too small. However, otherwise, if you choose right, it's very easy to set it up and it's scalable. If you are going from, let's say 200 to 500 employees, no problem. If you have two sites and you're growing to five production sites, also no problem.

There is currently no plan to increase its usage.

It can scale if architected well. It is highly configurable, and it is dependent on how a customer chooses to set it up. It is built to scale for 5,000 users. It is not really a limit, but 5,000 or less is where it performs well.

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne scalability is good. You can host the solution on an on-premise machine. You can also install it on the cloud. When you install JD Edwards EnterpriseOne on the cloud, you can scale it whenever, so its scalability level still depends on your architecture and infrastructure.

Regarding scalability, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is a nine out of ten.

My current project is a US project, and I can tell you that we have a team of about 250 people. 250 people, but not all of them in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. We have nearly 50 people in different teams at JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.

There are many more in this project. I'm not sure if there are any other projects that are using this product. But there are several projects, but I'm only going to tell you about my current project.

JD EnterpriseOne's product is simple to use and understand. When it comes to ERP technology, there are many models, all of them, that have been widely used in the United States, first and foremost, and it is developed are with the needs of the US clients in mind.

It's also very good. It runs on different platforms, so you can pick and choose which hardware system you would like for whatever scale of company you are. I used to work for a very large oil company that ran it for about 15,000 people. I know that there's companies larger than that, as well.

As far as scalability goes, we're a very small company, but we were able to implement the portions of the program that we needed. Other than that okay button for the printing, we're able to bypass features that we don't need because we're not a big company. And because of the way it's designed with processing options and version and things like that, we can tailor it for our business needs. As we've grown, we've added new functionalities and we've done a few mods.

So it's been growing with us. I think we have a long ways to go. We're still a small company and we were probably the smallest customer at the time when we implemented. We're probably not anymore, but we're still very small as far as the arena, so we have a long ways to go before we outgrow it.

It's scalable. You can start with a very small company, add bits to it, and it grows naturally with what your requirements are. Disks are cheap and you can use the same JD Edwards software as you get more complicated. The software gets more complicated with your requirements. It tries to answer everybody's needs as much as it can. You can sit on almost any platform, add more disc, add more users, and the product works very well whether you've got 10, 100, or 1000. Obviously, there's a cost associated with that, but straight out of the box, it's a very scalable tool.

About a year ago, we did an upgrade where we brought on two new facilities, so we had two existing plant locations and we upgraded our system and then brought them all online within a month. We added probably double the amount of users within a month and we didn't experience any system downtime as a result. As far as I know, they might have and not told us. I was still a user at that time. So, from my perspective, we've had no issues with scalability.
