AI functionality enabled our clients to automate more processes overall
Pros and Cons
  • "AI functionality enabled our clients to automate more processes overall. It helped with end-to-end automation in the way that if you automate more processes, you save more time, and save more money for the company."
  • "It is not very easy to build on automations. That's a problem with UiPath. I don't think it's very easy to build automation on top of it."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use cases are for invoice processing and some legal intake use cases.

How has it helped my organization?

The benefits we see from UiPath are always time savings. I've never seen another benefit. It's always that people don't have to do manual tasks anymore.

What is most valuable?

The automation cloud offering helps to decrease UiPath's total cost of ownership, by taking care of things such as infrastructure, maintenance, and updates, if security isn't a big issue.

With the cloud offering, you don't have as much control of where the data is and how it's protected versus the on-prem. If you're dealing with very sensitive information, you could introduce a compliance risk if you're using the cloud offering. But with the customers that we partner UiPath with, that's not an issue, so we use the cloud offering.

The screen automation features are the most valuable. There are some things, in an automation process that is complicated, that UiPath isn't very good at. And there are some things that are very repetitive and UiPath is good with it. For those repetitive aspects, it's obvious why it's valuable. It's replacing the amount of time that a human being would have to spend doing it.

We have seen that our clients have freed up time for their employees.

Our clients utilize AI functionality from UiPath. UiPath is really good at simple repetitive processes, but not as much at complex processes. The more complicated it gets, it breaks down because if it's less repetitive, it's less automatable.

AI functionality enabled our clients to automate more processes overall. It helped with end-to-end automation in the way that if you automate more processes, you save more time, and save more money for the company.

What needs improvement?

It is not very easy to build on automations. That's a problem with UiPath. I don't think it's very easy to build automation on top of it.

Accessibility needs improvement. It would be easier to build on UiPath if they would have more employee-level users as opposed to consultants. Then that would increase the value of the product and the platform.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using UiPath for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's very scalable in our organization. The hardest thing is getting in and getting someone to build their first five automations and their first five robots in the first place. After that, it's very hard to rip out. Once you've already automated something and you've done all the in-depth work to set it up, it's pretty sticky.

There are around ten users and they're almost all solutions architects.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We've used Blue Prism and Automation Anywhere, but I think UiPath is the market leader right now.

Even though UiPath is hard to use, it's easier to use than Blue Prism. And it has more features than Automation Anywhere.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is never straightforward. There are always bugs. It doesn't matter if it's UiPath or any other company, it's always complex. It's never easy the first time.

The implementation takes around three months.

What was our ROI?

Ideally you don't want to take someone's job, but if you free up the time that someone was spending doing something, you don't have to pay them to do that anymore, or you can reinvest their time somewhere else.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's expensive, but it saves a lot of money too.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to someone implementing UiPath would be to hire someone technical to do it. It's not as easy to use as they say it is.

I would rate UiPath an eight out of ten. To get it to a perfect ten, it would need to be easier to use.

Reduces RSI for repetitive tasks, saves time, and increases productivity
Pros and Cons
  • "The cloud deployment option is particularly attractive to some customers for its flexibility and scalability, along with customary thin client advantages."
  • "The user access management could be improved such that we are able to set up user rights in a more sophisticated way."

What is our primary use case?

We use UiPath for:

  • Financial domain
  • Excel automation
  • SAP automation
  • Citrix automation
  • Usage of Orchestrator queues
  • RE framework
  • Automating password resets
  • Security and governance
  • Rule-based exception handling
  • Large group deployment
  • Centralized repository for version control
  • Execution logs and credentials

How has it helped my organization?

This solution has improved a lot in our organization. Many departments have started automating their daily manual tasks, which involve repetitive and rule-based jobs.

Cost-Effectiveness: There will be no lunch breaks, holidays, sick leave, or shift time allocated for robotic automation. It can be set to work on a repetitive cycle, and as long as it is maintained correctly, it will continue to do so until programmed otherwise. This eliminates the risk of RSI occurring.

Increased Productivity: Using robotic automation to tackle repetitive tasks makes complete sense. Robots are designed to make repetitive movements. Humans, also by design, are not.

Giving staff members the opportunity to expand on their skills and work in other areas will create a better environment in which the business as a whole will benefit. With higher energy levels and more focus put into their work, the product can only improve, which will also lead to extremely satisfied clients.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features for us are:

  • Citrix recorder
  • UI Explorer
  • I used to connect using remote desktop and automated it using image automation.
  • The cloud deployment option is particularly attractive to some customers for its flexibility and scalability, along with customary thin client advantages.

What needs improvement?

The user access management could be improved such that we are able to set up user rights in a more sophisticated way. In the current version, if you grant, for example, Execute access to a user, it can execute all robotized processes in the given environment. You cannot specify the rights at the process-level.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using UiPath since August 2016.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before using RPA, we did the work manually. Once we became aware of this solution we tried to automate our work and achieved success. This has made our lives easier.

What was our ROI?

The increase in production at a lower cost produces obvious benefits for any manufacturer. The cost of investment can be recovered in a relatively short space of time and the gains from that point onwards are exponential, to say the least.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The initial investment cost is expensive, but I promise you guys this will be very helpful as we can easily automate applications and our productivity has increased.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I didn't evaluate any other option, rather I directly chose UiPath and started working. It proved my decision correct and I can say it's the leading RPA tool in our market now.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

The UiPath Academy is very intuitive and easy to use
Pros and Cons
  • "We have saved steps and time from people doing their jobs because they're not doing all this crazy validation anymore."
  • "There is potential there for some workflow capability. I know this would be going beyond RPA at that point, but having one platform that does a lot of things would be nice. Because as it stands, when you need to do a workflow or approval process, you need to send this out somewhere else. There are things the bot can do, but I can see some of that functionality already showing up though with the tasks and apps. However, I would like to see more."

What is our primary use case?

We have two customers. One is in the insurance industry. We are implementing it within our own company to automate HR and finance processes: back office. This is the same thing with the customer: back office. That's the focus.

We are using Studio, Orchestrator, and attended bots. We are not using unattended bots yet.

How has it helped my organization?

For one of our clients, their intent is to create a bot because one of their key folks was retiring. This person had a lot of knowledge of the processes and how things happen. So, the idea was to create a bot that helps. They want it to do 25 percent of most of the work, and this person would just validate instead of training somebody new to do the job. Their idea was to not hire for that position anymore. Instead, if the person is just doing validation, 25 percent of that load is then spread across their current staff.

What is most valuable?

It is easy to use. That is definitely one thing that attracts people.

I really like the feature that you get to record actions. I wish that feature was a bit more advanced where I could build more automation. Sometimes, you have to stop the robot because the robot doesn't get the level of detail that I am expecting to see in the automation. Then, you have to stop the bot, and stop or break the recording. While it's nice in creating a first sort of brush off your automation, I wish it would just go a step further.

I really like the new products that were announced here. The apps have a lot of potential. I'm interested in learning more about that in the next few months. The same thing with StudioX. Although, it would be interesting to see if they're more business-friendly or not. While UiPath is advertised as a low code platform, you can't put it in the hands of a business user. They have no idea what some of the features are. Some things, they need to have extensive training and be tech savvy in several things before they can go there.

Several of us took training using the UiPath Academy. I thought the UiPath Academy was very intuitive and easy to use. I would give it a five out of five rating.

What needs improvement?

When you are tech savvy and been trained, it is a four out of five for ease of use. Having that automation recording feature operate better and capture more of the automation that you're trying to build would make it a five.

With the new products that were announced, UiPath closed a few of the gaps. I can see how they could expand the products into other areas. There is potential there for some workflow capability. However, I would like to see more. That would be good.

Moving bots to the cloud would be the next good step. The new product has Orchestrator in the cloud. I think moving to bots to the cloud could also be next along with having Studio in the cloud where you can do everything in the cloud: Deploy and run your bots from the cloud.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is pretty stable. I would rate it a five out of five.

How are customer service and technical support?

I haven't used the technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We learned about this stuff about two years and a half ago. We started exploring it, then we decided to take the plunge and try it out. That's how it came about.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was pretty straightforward.

It took us about four months from the initial purchase of UiPath to putting the robots in production. With our first deployment, we made a lot of mistakes. For us, it was like the first time you do something, you don't know exactly what you're doing, you just do it. Then, the second time, you're like, "Oh, now, I can go back and do other things differently." With us, it was very much like that. We learned sort of on the job.

What about the implementation team?

We did the installation ourselves.

I didn't do it, but I know that the people that did the installation didn't have any issues with it. They didn't need to open a ticket in particular or anything like that. This tells me that it was fairly easy.

What was our ROI?

We have saved steps and time from people doing their jobs because they're not doing all this crazy validation anymore.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated the top three. UiPath at the time was number three, Blue Prism was number number two, and Automation Anywhere was number one. So, we weighed them out.

I liked some of the functionality from Automation Anywhere. The recording feature of Automation Anywhere was much better and easier to use than UiPath. Although, I haven't seen the new Studio. In 2019, maybe they changed some things in there. Regardless, the Automation Anywhere tool seemed easier to use. But, in terms of partnership, they were not a good fit for the values of the company. Those things all go into account when trying to partner with somebody. That's why we decided to go with UiPath.

Some of the features in the software looked the same between Automation Anywhere and UiPath. Blue Prism seems very hard to use. That one we kind of killed on the spot. Between like Automation Anywhere and UiPath, it was more about how the company's vision, and where things were headed. All of that sort of helped. So, we were at that point that we were not really looking at the software anymore. We were looking at other things. That's how we ended up here.

What other advice do I have?

With the new additions that were announced yesterday, I'd probably give it an eight (out of 10). I still would like to see some other features, which I know UiPath would start crossing into BPM a bit when you start talking workflows and things like that. However, that would be a good next step given their market share, customers outreach, and beyond API and some partners that they have today.

The product is easy to set up, but harder to make function
Pros and Cons
  • "It has mainly taken the load off of employees. We had a huge amount of tasks which weren't being done. It provides our employees time to do their other work, since we automated very manual things."
  • "I would like better stability and possibly some tools to determine why robots are failing."

What is our primary use case?

The handling of different types of insurance tasks.

How has it helped my organization?

It has mainly taken the load off of employees. We had a huge amount of tasks which weren't being done. It provides our employees time to do their other work, since we automated very manual things.

We are currently using automation technology at a small level, as we just got started with UiPath and its technology.

What is most valuable?

Its ability to remove manual tasks.

What needs improvement?

I would like better stability and possibly some tools to determine why robots are failing.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is not great. UiPath is okay, but when it interacts with our programs, it often fails. It is difficult to determine why it fails. We are utilizing a lot of time trying to figure out why it is unstable.

The implementation time was very long due to instability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is good.

How are customer service and technical support?

The customer support was slow at the start. After a while, they come up to speed, then everything was okay.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was easy because it was logical, but afterwards, it was harder to make UiPath function. While it is simple to set up and get started on. To make it stable, that takes a lot of hard work.

We use it in Citrix. The implementation was easy. We just installed on some VM servers.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did try Blue Prism in another part of the organization, while using UiPath in our part of the organization. We decided to stay with just UiPath.

Since it was two different parts of the company, so you can't compare the decision. It was a decision made by management.

What other advice do I have?

Because we are spending so much time on debugging, it has not saved us time yet.

We just use Unattended Robots, not Attended Robots.

I am not using the UiPath Academy because I do not put in the robots. I make sure that they run in the background. I do know some of my colleagues are looking at using the Academy, but they have to find time for it.

I found the recording, screen scraping, data scraping, and integration with third-party tools most valuable

What is our primary use case?

This solution is to provide robotic process automation solutions. In simple words, it is to automate the steps a human user may have to take repetitively on one or more systems to complete any process flow.

How has it helped my organization?

Using this tool has improved the efficiency, accuracy, and compliance of certain automated operations by up to 75%, as it uses preprogrammed bots to execute tasks, which can operate 24/7 without getting tired. Such bots eliminate chances of human errors and increase speed and productivity by leaps and bounds.

What is most valuable?

I found the recording, screen scraping, data scraping, and integration with third-party tools like ABBYY most valuable because they not only make the whole automation easier and less effort taking, but also, they let us use the power of external systems by integrations.

Availability of free training and certificates is another most valuable feature of the product.

What needs improvement?

Debugging features need improvement maybe by providing a process and variable alteration abilities during the debug execution. Additionally, support with version control systems like Bitbucket and Git needs to be added.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is reasonably stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is highly scalable.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not use any other solution.

What was our ROI?

Very fast ROI, as it's the cheapest of the lot.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

UiPath is cheapest. You can even start using it for free.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I evaluated Automation Anywhere.

Most valuable features are the combination of the free academy and the graphical IDE with a large number of built-in activities

What is our primary use case?

  • Automation of a range of processes (35 at the time of writing).
  • Utilizing UiPath in a banking environment.

Processes include areas such as payments, financial crimes, HR, and customer service (middle office).

How has it helped my organization?

  • Currently, 10 FTE of work has been moved to robots (nearly 10% of operations).
  • The staff has been retrained from operations into RPA development roles.
  • Improved consistency and cost-effectiveness of those processes.

What is most valuable?

Combination of the free academy and the graphical IDE with a large number of built-in activities. This creates a low bar to entry, allowing technically minded business users to get involved with the initiative.

What needs improvement?

UiPath is experiencing some growing pains in their support at the moment (some of this is due to the rapid progress of the tool, I suspect). From our timezone (GMT+10), support expertise has always been a bit of an inconvenience, with the best staff only coming online after our work hours.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

It is a reliable source for faster automation.
Pros and Cons
  • "We like the ability to capture some of the features on a screen for the application. We also really like the UI, and the design is pretty good."
  • "I think the only issue we have faced is with the upgrade compatibility."

What is our primary use case?

We mostly use UiPath for downloading reports into Excel files, reconcile reports and generate a result which is sent to the users. It is a faster means for automation.

What is most valuable?

We like the ability to capture some of the features on a screen for the application. We also really like the UI, and the design is pretty good.

What needs improvement?

I think the only issue we have faced is with the upgrade compatibility.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We are considering other options that are more stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We only have five really small programs right now. So, scalability is not an issue for us.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have not had a need for UiPath tech support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Other departments in our organization were using Blue Prism. I do not know why they chose that versus UiPath. It is possible that they were looking for a higher level of security and stability.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is very good. The license does not have to be in a bundle, like in other competitor products. You only have to purchase at least 10 from the beginning, for one year.

Great community with helpful automation but needs better monitoring
Pros and Cons
  • "The Automation Cloud service helped decrease time to value. Rather than focusing on infrastructure, our focus is purely on finely automating our computers and development."
  • "Monitoring and statistics need improvement. It's quite hard to export if you want a long, clear report. It's quite hard to do that based on the style and functionality. You have to feed in your own functionality to do this."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is used for automating repetitive processes within our entire organization.

How has it helped my organization?

In this particular organization, we've been running UiPath for roughly one year, and we've already been able to automate so many tasks that the solution has been enough to replace two individuals.

What is most valuable?

The ease of implementation is great. There's a large community surrounding this product. UiPath, in their workflow wheel of products, offers a really wide variety. I've tried competitors as well and I would say that they are market-leading.

My assessment of the ease of building automation using the solution is positive. There are a lot of different techniques or coding languages that can be used for automation. UiPath provides software where, instead of dragging from the ground up, I can drag and drop prebuilt functions that will shorten the development cycles. Rather than having to build something, I can just reuse something that somebody else already built.

The solution enables us to implement end-to-end automation, starting with process analysis and rebooting building, and monitoring of automation. They strive to provide all of those. The monitoring part is quite lacking, however, they are a quality provider in other aspects.

The cloud is great. I worked in organizations where we hosted UiPath on-premises, and not having to take care of updates or worry about the on-premises server, is a great help.

The Automation Cloud service helped decrease time to value. Rather than focusing on infrastructure, our focus is purely on finely automating our computers and development.

I’m not sure if the Automation Cloud service helps to decrease the solution's total cost of ownership. I’m not exactly sure how the privacy model is looked at right now if I compare the cloud service to the on-premise service.

In terms of having a SaaS solution and how fast we’re able to innovate when it comes to automation, in this particular case, the main selling point is that they have a really wide variety of automation-related products, which makes them the all-in-one automation vendor.

This solution helps minimize our on-premise footprint.

We’ve used the UiPath Academy Courses. We have got both developers and business people using it. This way, they can gain more insight into what is good to look out for when trying to identify automation. It's a very important part of UiPath. They offer everything from videos and other tools, which makes our team of experts not need to study anywhere else.

The community is quite good and brings value. They have authority. There are a lot of people who answer questions. UiPath has done a really good job in terms of showcasing the people that spent the most time there, giving them MVP statuses and more.

The biggest benefit of the Academy is that people get up to speed quite quickly with UiPath's suite of products. The only thing I can compare it to are open source alternatives. I haven't used any of the proprietary alternatives.

We use Attended Automation. Attended Automation helped to scale RPA benefits in our organization by automating department or role-specific processes that require human-robot collaboration. It has been a good way to explain to the business what RPA is. They can actually see if the solutions align and they gain a better understanding of the bigger picture. It's very important. At the end of the day, business is the most important place that we get automation ideas from. They need to know the potential of the product and Attended Automations helps them gain this insight.

While the solution speeds up digital transformation, I cannot say it necessarily reduces the cost of digital transformation. It has, however, reduced human error. Some of the processes that we have to automate are very repetitive, and when we must repeat this five thousand times a day, mistakes are bound to happen. However, if you make a computer program do it, it's more efficient and less error-prone.

This solution freed up employees' time. So far, we freed up almost two weeks of programming delays. If we free up one day, that's 168 hours per month, and doubled it will be roughly 340 hours per month. This additional time enabled employees to focus on higher-value work.

We haven't measured employee satisfaction in a granular way, however, from just what I've heard, teams are very satisfied that they no longer have to do these really boring tasks.

This solution reduced the cost of our automation operations, although we didn't really do automation before. This solution saved costs for our organization in general as well.

What needs improvement?

Monitoring and statistics need improvement. It's quite hard to export if you want a long, clear report. It's quite hard to do that based on the style and functionality. You have to feed in your own functionality to do this.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with UiPath for the past three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the solution is good. We've had heaps of fun since we implemented UiPath one year ago.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

If we need to increase the computing power, in this case, it would be adding more robot licenses. We can simply do that by emailing UiPath and they will expand our license. It’s very simple to scale up.

The solution is scalable. It's very easy and quick to scale up. If we need more people for more robots, then we can simply just buy another robot license.

We use the one robot license and we have it at roughly 70%. We will probably buy another robot at the end of this year.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is great. I've used it on several occasions and I can expect answers within twenty four hours from their technical engineers, and they will speak with me directly.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used an open-source program called OpenRPA. UiPath is a much bigger suite of products with a big community. We get a lot of services for free when we're using UiPath.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was extremely straightforward. We sent one email and they set it up for us.

The deployment took roughly one month, and the installer set it up for us. It's more of a matter of informing and educating the business.

Our implementation strategy was to demo the product for a business, explain the capabilities, give them the information about UiPath Academy, and then based on that, move forward.

What about the implementation team?

We handle the implementation in-house.

What was our ROI?

We have seen a return on investment. In less than one year, we had already automated many tasks and saved time in terms of hours, manual hours, and days.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

As long as your company has enough repetitive work where you can automate, the pricing is quite easy to calculate. If you save more money automating these tasks in the first half-year, then it's definitely a worthwhile investment.

You should take into account the different server where you actually run the product with a Windows license and the cost of purchasing the machine.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated the top five market options based on Gartner, and based on previous experience with consultants and colleagues. We then picked this solution.

The pros of UiPath compared to, for example, Automation Anywhere or Power Automate, which was my first alternative, was that they have a larger community. They also have a wider range of products. They have a wider range of activities within the products as well. They have in general, a stronger tool. UiPath is very broad.

What other advice do I have?

We do not use the solution's Automation Cloud service.

We do not use this solution as much as we would like to, however, we use monitors with the Automation Hub to gather all different types of automation IBS in one place. All of our products are hosted on the Automated Cloud.

At this point, we do not use the solution's UiPath app features or the AI functionality in our automation program.

I'd advise users to follow best practices in regard to populating automation. It's a good idea to follow people's advice. You aren't going to make the wrong decision if other people have done it before.

I'd rate the solution a strong seven out of ten. The only lacking parts I can mention are the monitoring and statistics.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Microsoft Azure
