Trend Micro Deep Security Other Advice

Harel Cohen - PeerSpot reviewer

I rate the solution nine out of ten; it's in the top three or top five products of its type.

My advice to others considering the solution is that two major considerations when looking for a product are stability and vendor company experience. Trend has been around for ages and has a good reputation; this and the stability work in their favor.

If you manage a large IT infrastructure with hundreds of servers, it is not feasible to address them all at once, making Trend Micro Deep Security an excellent choice for first-time users. I highly recommend this solution to enterprise-level or large organizations that are hosting numerous servers. It is extremely helpful and saves a lot of time.

It is one of the best vulnerability management systems available on the market, providing fast management solutions.

I rate Trend Micro Deep Security for approximately a nine out of ten.

This product is one of the leaders in terms of endpoint protection, server protection, and network protection. They provide good support, and it is easy to deploy. They are scalable, and the threat intelligence is very good. They stay up to date with what is happening in the cyber world.

Personally, I like anti-malware and integrity monitoring. The anti-malware has its own behavioral monitoring and machine learning. It detects all species and objects in the server or the file integrity monitoring. If there are any changes on the server side, they will alert you. I would like to see these tools as part of Trend Micro Deep Security.

Currently, my organization relies on Trend Micro Deep Security to meet its business needs in the cybersecurity space. It is important to stay vigilant and explore all possible cybersecurity interventions. Despite having access to many of the solution's features, my organization has not yet deployed them all. As our organization and its systems and solutions continue to grow, in our organization, we want to enable all of the solution's potential, which can provide us with security. Therefore, I was seeking to compare the additional features available within the solution to identify any that could provide significant security benefits to my organization.

Take a good look at all the different options. If there are things which I think teams are familiar with, that always gives a product a bit of a leg up. This is not just from the perspective of the people who support and deploy the product, but even the security teams who may be already familiar with the product and know how effective it is. It gives them a lot more comfort seeing something that they have some background with.

Our company uses the on-premise and AWS versions. I work with the AWS version, and have been happy with it. I am seeing more of the end result of it rather than the infrastructure and security perimeter.

We decided to use AWS because it was something the teams were familiar with. Our teams, who are currently using Trend Micro, were already familiar with the product and wanted to make use of it in the cloud as well. It was just a matter of continuity.

It is integrated with a SIEM, security incident and event management, platform. A lot of the output which comes from Trend Micro, we fed into the SIEM system so the security teams and the monitoring teams have a single pane of glass view into all the security features of our environment.

We're on the sales-based, software-based, and service-based model with Trend Micro Deep Security.

Most of the financial sectors and banks use Trend Micro Security with XDR, which we're also using. The main reason we selected the product is for its XDR or Extended XDR.

There are multiple products and solutions under Trend Micro. Now I'm evaluating Trend Micro Apex One for endpoint security. We will replace Kaspersky with Trend Micro.

They've already added an additional feature, XDR. They're monitoring my servers at their own SOC, so this is an additional feature, and I don't think there's any need for an additional feature at the moment.

My score for Trend Micro Deep Security, on a scale of one to ten, with one being the worst and ten being the best is nine.

My general advice to everyone is to first define your must-haves. What is it that you are looking for in a product? Nowadays, there are so many products with overlapping features, so you need to first decide what it is you are looking for. From a feature perspective, you should define must-haves and nice-to-have.

You also need to test it out if you are running multiple products on the same server. You need to test it out on the utilization side because there is a huge utilization hit if you are running multiple agents on the same server. You need to work it out because Trend Micro, CrowdStrike, or any other agent would require a good amount of memory. There should be dedicated memory for them. If there is a 16-gig memory, at least 2-gig memory should be dedicated to them. There should be 2 gigs for it to just work and 8 gigs for the OS, so we are talking about a minimum of 10 gigs. If your servers are running on low memory, there'll be a huge utilization hit on the servers. Therefore, you need to choose the right agent. If you are running multiple agents, then you probably need to do a capacity evaluation before purchasing any of the tools. There are trial versions available, and PoCs are also available, so you can certainly check on it and see the utilization. Do proper homework before purchasing the tool. The tool is good, and it will perfectly work fine, but it also depends on the implementation.

At this time, I'd rate it an eight out of ten because of the challenge that I faced when I was dependent on this, but it couldn't protect the server. However, by now, Trend Micro would have fixed the problem that I faced a year ago. I know their Singapore EDR team. I worked with them, and they are quick in terms of fixing any bugs or issues. They would've definitely looked into it, but that was one instance for me where CrowdStrike outperformed Trend Micro.

We are a customer and an end-user.

While I don't know the version number off-hand, we are using the latest version of the solution.

New users must assess their exact needs from their side before starting. Look in the market, look at the risk, look at the problem of cyber security for other clients and the chances of attack, et cetera. Look also at the infrastructure, such as the type of machines - if they are full cloud, on-prem, or hybrid.

You must make an assessment locally, internally. When the customer has these visibilities, he can go to the market and select which solution, or which two or three solutions, can best suit the company's needs. Do a proof of concept and try it. Look at the cost and the ratio quality cost, as that'll definitely be determinant for the decision.

I'd rate the solution at a six out of ten.

The best approach is to start off with a node where it is sort of monitoring and looking at stuff, then work your way into the actual prevention and blocking. Because it can turn off a bunch of services without too much effort which can be good, but it can also shut things down.

Think about it. It's for the cloud and not meant to be retro-fitted. You're not managing a core server and it's got elastic scalability up and down from a cost perspective. You just pay per agent. If you don't need a server anymore, you don't pay.

When you implement and install, really learn how to set up the dashboard. You have to have a good intimate knowledge of your environment. Take the time to learn the product; don't just plug it in because it's not meant for that.

We are a partner.

If someone is looking to implement security solutions, including endpoint security, then I would suggest that person go for the whole Trend Micro suite, not just for the endpoint security. They have different products for security solutions, including Deep Security, Network Security, Trend, et cetera. If they buy the whole package, it would be easy for them to control their network security-wise and manage it quickly, rather than having a different brand and security solution for different departments or layers of their network.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. There's always a margin to improve both in a technical sense and financially as well. I'm giving them two points less in hopes they'll continue improving their product.

It met all our requirements, and Trend Micro provided us with a lot of help getting it set up. I would almost give it a 10, to be honest, but there is some room for improvement with the reporting. For someone implementing Deep Security, I would advise them to pay attention to their kernel numbers. But then again, if we were using Red Hat Linux, Deep Security would be so seamless. Sometimes the kernel versions get out of sync, but as long as you stick to the standards, it's seamless. Once you deviate, the mileage may vary.

I am satisfied with the product. As I mentioned, sometimes we feel some other features should be included. For example, the complete system control and web reputation. Regarding web reputation, I am a little limited because although we are blocking some sites, they are able to access those sites from out of our network. In other words, the restriction should be permanent whether it is done on-premises or on the internet. That is a drawback.

I can recommend it because it is good product. I have experience with other products as well and they have failed in the security field. That why I'm working with Trend Micro now.

The user interface in Trend Micro is very helpful. They have some study videos and some process videos included in the portal itself. So when we are in any system or get a warning or any critical error we can resolve it on the spot because we have the solution attached to the data error. That is something good thing they have done in the portal. With the instructions they have given we can see what we need to do so we can get it resolved by our self. We can learn the things on our own with no need to go to support.

On a scale of one to ten I would rate Trend Micro Deep Security an eight.

No product is perfect. Deep Security is a fantastic product but there are certain little details, I think, that could be tweaked or improved. I would say that before Trend Micro comes out to install the product, you need to come up with a plan with the product. That could be anti-virus and a good plan of how you want anti-virus to work on your work stations, computers, and servers. I shouldn't just say anti-virus, but also firewall protection, integrity, what exclusions do you want. You want a good plan for each system and that will make the installation much faster. If you have to go back when the person is with you and try to figure it out as you go along, it will slow you down. Get a good plan.
