We rely heavily on the image-level backup functionality for simplified disaster recovery. Many of our clients have physical infrastructure, so this protection is very important to them.

Taking an image-level backup and restoring it is very easy in Backup Exec, which helps us significantly.

Additionally, we have virtual infrastructure, so restoring virtual machine systems from backups is also very easy. These two features are most crucial for us.

The most important feature is the variety of backup applications it supports, including ERP systems and most other programs, such as Microsoft. It allows for simultaneous backups of multiple applications. The second advantage is the strong support provided. You can open tickets and receive prompt responses and assistance if any issues arise.

Synthetic backup is valuable. It gives you the possibility to do a synthesized backup, which means that it combines a full backup and incremental backup data and gives it to you in one stream. So, you don't have to restore the full backup and then later go and restore the incremental backup. You can do that in one go.

It has also got some backup lifecycle policies that allow you to do different things in one backup definition. So, in one backup definition, you are backing up data, copying it to another place, and probably creating an image of the data. You are doing multiple things in one backup configuration, which is very good because it simplifies the way administrators work.

The one thing for the last 12 months which has been very good for Veritas was the instance-based license. This means that you're able to license per instance, not only per physical server. And also, the incremental backup which they introduced for virtual servers, where it makes it much quicker to restore, it just automatically is able to mount it back to the original backup. This makes it much quicker when you're doing the restore.

I prefer to use a tape library and Veritas Backup Exec is fully compatible with different tape libraries. So I prefer this software.

Of course, all of the solutions are agent-based, but granular recovery, GTR, works well in Backup Exec. It was Symantec in the past. I can easily recover a user or a file. It mainly works directly to the original location, which is why I prefer to use it.

The beauty of the solution is that you can rely on it. It offers a quick recovery time when it's backing up items. The way it recovers data is excellent. Sometimes with other software, a complete backup doesn't happen.

With Veritas, the SLAs are pretty predictable and you can achieve complete backups easily. It offers duplication and compression and the safe sorting of information.

The Exchange restore is the most valuable feature. The restore granularity that the product offers is great, right down to the individual emails.

It saves a ton of time and effort for the admins. There is far less frustration for the end user that equates to more time for admins for addressing more burning issues within their areas of expertise, thus, increasing the employee's productivity.

This solution creates a differential backup to reduce storage requirements.

This solution is not complex and you do not have to be too technical to use it.

Veritas offers granular restore, which is an option that many other solutions do not have. It allows you to restore, for example, a single SharePoint document, rather than an entire site.

It gives us a very good view of what's happening on the network. The security feature is very good as well. The network isn't open to everyone. It's open only to those who work on it.

One improvement we've seen is the visualization of issues. If people are having issues on the network, we have to see what's happening right away. On the graphical side, we can see exactly where the issue is, and what port is affected. It's a lot easier for us to correct and to troubleshoot network issues now.

The interface continues to be very convenient and very straightforward.
