JIRA Portfolio Initial Setup
I'm not very familiar with the setup on-prem. My company is a consulting firm and the clients that I have worked with personally were running the solution on-prem, so they had their own technology people setting it up. I think it's a fairly straightforward thing to manage and set up. These days, Atlassian is focusing much more on their cloud version of the solution, which is probably the most straightforward way for a new user to adopt the product.
The setup of the cloud deployment is simple. The solution has over 2,000 plugins and research is needed to determine which one is the best to use and implement.
The cloud deployment takes a few clicks from the mouse to finish. It can be done quickly.
The solution should be overall more user-friendly.

View full review »The best thing about JIRO Portfolio is that its initial setup is very easy. You can start a Kanban board in a couple of minutes and then start communicating and adding users.
View full review »On a scale of one to ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy, I rate the initial setup an eight or nine since it is not that difficult. We can do a little bit of customization, and configuration is pretty much straightforward.
The solution is deployed on Atlassian Cloud.
The time taken for deployment depends upon the configuration of JIRA Portfolio and what its users do with it. Depending on what the customers want from the tool, it may take a day to a week.

In order to set up the solution properly, you need proper training first.
We have created a system inside our company. I do a sort-of training for JIRA Portfolio. I have coached about 1,000 people. I would estimate that you need two hours of training for a JIRA team member and two additional hours for a JIRA administrator, or a project administrator, and about two additional hours on top of that for JIRA Portfolio. If we set up, it takes one day. And of course, after setup, users will have to practice on the system to get used to it.

The initial setup is easy. I rate it a nine on a scale of one to ten, where one is a difficult setup, and ten is an easy setup.
I can't comment on the time taken for deployment since I don't manage JIRA server.
Maybe there are some people who manage the server using JIRA application. I guess three people are managing the solution.

Just the user sign-up, and then the central SSO system. We have our own SSO with Microsoft Azure, so it should be pretty straightforward.

The initial setup was handled by somebody else. I can't speak to how easy or difficult the process was.
I'm not sure how many people are maintaining the product.

We don't take a big-bang approach. We start by deploying one piece of art and then presenting it to the leadership. They need to have an overall view of how it's progressing. If all the necessary data is available, it may not take more than two weeks to implement.
To properly implement, it was important to first tag the teams and their respective tasks and to assign them to the relevant ethics. Additionally, it was also important to set deadlines for the completion of the tasks. One of the biggest challenges is people not putting in their estimates, which hinders accurate tracking of progress.
The initial setup is complex, as much as they've made a lot of strides to improve that. They've removed some of the complexity by taking certain features away from it. It kind of runs to help you set up your initial plans. However, to get the maximum value from it, you need training, and you need to be experienced in its use and understand how that algorithm works, which isn't really taught or known. You just kind of learn through experience. There is that learning curve, and it's very steep.
In terms of the deployment, it comes installed out of the box. If you get any of the cloud subscription premium tier, it's already pre-installed. That's true also with the newer versions of Data Center. If you've been using the products for some time, you would've had to install them from the old marketplace app. That wasn't so bad. It’s plug-and-play. It's already been tested and it's compatible with the system. There are just some manual steps you would need to go through to install it if you're using an earlier version.
It's built and maintained by Atlassian. It's very stable. It complies with all of their SLAs and support that they offer when it's the Atlassian-hosted subscription.

The deployment takes about two months. Of course, it depends on the customer and varies a bit.
View full review »The initial setup of the JIRA Portfolio is in the medium range of difficulty. We needed some training to be provided to our teammates. However, after the training, we were more capable. Without the training, we could not access very much or assign any product.
The setup of the JIRA Portfolio is continuous, it has taken us eight years.

Jira Portfolio's deployment is easy. We started by signing up for the software's seven-day free trial using our credit card. After the trial, we decided to opt for a paid plan based on the number of licenses we needed. As for any custom plans or requirements, we haven't reached that scale yet, but we know we can contact their team for further discussions when needed.

Setting up the new software development process wasn't a difficult task, as there was an external company with JIRA competence in Lithuania we could hire to do the configuration. However, we had to gain more knowledge about the processes we wanted to implement on JIRA. This took some time, but after a few months of learning, members of our internal team were able to configure and develop JIRA by themselves without the help of external consultants.

I do not think the initial setup was complex.
If you do not understand the environment, the deployment will not be easy. Since I have used JIRA for quite some time and understand the Atlassian ecosystem, the initial setup of the solution was very straightforward for me.
On a scale from one to ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy, I rate the solution’s initial setup an eight out of ten.

It was definitely complex to set up. It was difficult right from the start, by applying the project setting configurations. Popping up the custom fields and relating it to the workflows was also difficult. Identifying a security policy on top of that and adding the group was really complex, too.
Deployment took almost one month's time to set it up and get started.

The initial setup was complex. We have Agile teams and we have classic teams and the waterfall development. We have to integrate both and we have to create a workflow that can be used for all of these aspects. Our governance in Germany for a bank is difficult. We have many things to keep in mind.
The deployment only takes two weeks but the difficulty is that we have many systems. Our old system is divided into 10 subsystems, so when we deploy we have to use other things. We must look for every single system. We'd like to integrate with JIRA but at the moment it's not in our book.
