I think it's an easy, versatile solution to implement. I think it provides a very good alternative to Cisco ACI or VMware NSX-T. The big advantage is that if you need additional functionality like NSX-T, or micro-segmentation, you can integrate that kind of product with the Big Switch solution. I don't know how it's evolved over the last 12 months, because I know that Arista had planned to integrate it into one of their solutions, but when I was working with it last year, it was very good. I'd give this solution a good nine out of ten because I found it easy to deploy, flexible and evaluative.
Find out what your peers are saying about Big Switch Networks, Cumulus Networks, Juniper and others in Software Defined Networking (SDN). Updated: April 2024.
What is software-defined networking? Software-defined networking (SDN) is a new technology designed to make your network more agile and centrally controlled. While today’s networks are mostly static, slow to change, and dedicated to single services, SDN gives you the ability to create a network that can handle many different services in a dynamic fashion, allowing you to consolidate multiple services into one common infrastructure. Essentially, an SDN’s network decouples network control...
