Acronis Backup Review

A must have cost effective backup and recovery solution for SMEs for quick recovery but not for high end applications.

Valuable Features:

The recovery system works great. I recovered the systems in few minutes from a disaster. It has a very clear and easy to use Interface. The vast amount of knowledge base articles on its site is great for troubleshooting issues. I liked the feature to split backups into multiple files to fit different media types. It has data encryption, which encrypts your backups as a security precaution.

Room for Improvement:

I found logs are not enough for troubleshooting in case of failures. Absence of file filtering tools is disappointing. Does not provides advance backup solution like granular backup of emails.

Other Advice:

I bought this software for backup of workgroup based computers and it worked great for them. Scheduling was quite easy and the recovery process was awesome. Due to some power failure our 10 systems crashed which were recovered in few minutes by the Acronis recovery partition. However it lacks advance features like granular backup and data filtering hence unsuitable for enterprise level.

I do not agree that Acronis backup and recovery doesn’t support granular backup and recovery. In fact, it provides enhanced features for granular backup and recovery. It can backup individual files and folders or an entire system image, including the operating system, applications and configuration information. So it is suitable for use at enterprise level.

I have to agree with Imran, Acronis is suitable for enterprises but it is definitely not the best tool on the market. It is very hard to troubleshoot failures with backups when reading logs - but on that aspect we can't really complain because most applications do not have a helpful error logging system.

I have used Acronis on numerous platforms, in most cases it did the job.

One of the many problems or challenges faced by the small and medium enterprises is lack of capital or funds. Owners of such businesses need solutions that are not just tailored for their specific needs but also affordable to them. Acronis Backup and Recovery is one of the many programs in the market that have been developed with SMEs in mind.

No one solution can address all needs and hence it has definite segment and requirements where it fits well. Surely, from reviewers experience seems that complex point in time recoveries might pose some challenges in case a fault has occurred. Worked with oracle backup recoveries and liked the SCN based recoveries which leaves a room to go to a certain point back in time if last back is not good. How it is handled in Acronics, any ideas?
