What do you think of Nimble Storage?

Primary Use Case: This is the SAN for our network. We house all of our network files here, as well as our virtual machines. • Improvements to My Organization: Nimble Storage is a great storage solution. It provided us a lot insight on the growth of our storage. • Valuable Features: InfoSight: It lets us see what we might have to prepare for in the future. This feature has been a big help, especially since we have been recently looking to move on as our contract is almost up. • Use of Solution: Three to five years. • Pricing, License Cost and Setup: It is very pricey. You pay for what you get, and this storage solution is great. It is well worth the cost.

What do you think of HPE SimpliVity?

Primary Use Case: Production servers running on virtualization (such as web, DB, mail, and file), and the report server requires more disk performance to reduce report generation. • Improvements to My Organization: Improves backup time and DR solution. We can backup with more frequency and minimize RPO and RTO. • Valuable Features: Deduplication Compression It helps us save on the cost of storage and improves the backup and DR solution. • Room for Improvement: Cloud integration, such as Azure and AWS. It would be better if we could deploy a hybrid cloud integrated to SimpliVity. • Use of Solution: Trial/evaluations only.

What is most valuable?

* Allows for very easy administration * You don't have LUNs to set up and assign * The ability to set up storage policies and assign them at the disk level * Allows for different setups for different workload requirements

How has it helped my organization?

* Allows for the expansion of our public library patron computer environment into a three-node VMware cluster using commodity servers * Eliminates the need for expensive disk arrays and controllers * Provides greater reliability and performance

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We chose VMware vSAN for these reasons: * It is part of the ESXi kernel. This allows for the product to be very fast with little overhead. * It is included in the Enterprise Plus version of ESXi. Compared with competing products, it provides... more»
