ManageEngine OpManager Room for Improvement

VENKATESHREDDY - PeerSpot reviewer

What I'd like ManageEngine OpManager to improve on is artificial intelligence.  In particular, the machine learning feature should be integrated with the sensor flow. Doing this will give leverage, especially when you look at other products such as the Cisco DNA Center. When a switch goes down, I should be able to build on the correlation of other physical devices it's connected to so that I can integrate that with my CA CMDB. The ManageEngine OpManager team needs to draw a long-term roadmap where that feature becomes an integral part of the solution because right now, machine learning in ManageEngine OpManager is a long process. The solution doesn't have MLS search and I want to see ML being developed and applied for CA CMDB to greatly reduce the burden of tying everything.

For example, if I have a data center switch that goes down now, I should know what server it's connected to, and when that switch goes down at twenty-four ports, I would get twenty-four alerts for different devices plugged in. I should be able to make a correlation that the major problem lies in the switch and not with the twenty-four elements connected to that switch. That is where machine learning should come into play and the ManageEngine OpManager AI should indicate "This is where the root of your problem is."  It could be difficult, but this is a feature that should be improved or added to the solution.

What I'd like to see in the next version of ManageEngine OpManager is for the machine learning and AI to be tied with the correlation engine because, at the moment, the existing correlation is lacking in terms of contextual awareness. Contextual awareness has to be more customized so that the operator or the person building or customizing the tool should have the flexibility to tie it with the CA CMDB application and the underlying inventory. This way, ManageEngine OpManager becomes more of a straightforward, next-generation solution concerning monitoring. For example, another player like New Relic has an application management module that's far ahead, but it's still lagging and would still need to catch up in terms of managing needs.

ManageEngine OpManager has integrations through APIs, but still needs further enhancement because there are still certain applications that would take hits, so the level of contextual awareness needs to be built on more, and that takes time.

Nothing at this stage needs to be improved.

The pricing is quite high. In terms of the value, it is expensive.

We had quite a few challenges with customizing many of the monitors. Monitor customization was not that easy. It'd take quite a bit of work.

We had some stability issues at the outset that have since been resolved.

One thing it could work on is the coloring of the reporting graphs. It uses very fancy, bright colors that don't always represent the data accurately. For example, it may show 100% availability in one criterion, but if the same page uses green somewhere else, it might use red for that 100% availability. It doesn't look good.I mean, certain things should always be green, they can't be red. That way, there's a disconnect from the expected color scheme.

Within the generated reports, there are graphs and columns with data. The colors used are fancy and don't have a specific meaning. They're just used to avoid repeating colors on the same page, so each graph gets a unique color. But in doing so, they neglect the fact that a graph showing good data shouldn't use red color. It can mislead the audience. It can mislead whoever reads the report, especially senior management who quickly glance at the big picture.

Some of our customers have been asking that OpManager have a feature to monitor the operating system, however, I tell them that Endpoint Central is doing that. You can buy endpoints and then OpManager, and they integrate between them, and everything is okay. I don't really have another feature to add.

When there are so many solutions, with that case improvement, it's extra developing an emerging market.  Sophos is one of the products the team recently experienced.

Unfortunately, we had a bad experience with Sophos EndPoint Central because the tool did not work as expected. It actually interfered. It hampered our production environment. So, we were not happy with the solution and had to roll back all of the Sophos agents we had installed in our environment.

Because of the security and overall performance issue, the tool did not work as expected. So, there were a lot of complications with the tool.

The main area for improvement for ManageEngine OpManager is its performance. The team is looking for a network monitoring and management solution that is reliable and does not interfere with their production environment.

The solution can be improved by keeping information about the processes. For example, I previously used SCOM, and in SCOM, if the CPU gets higher for more than 90%, like 20 minutes, an alert triggers the management, and it can do everything a monitoring tool should do. Hence, the solution can be improved by tracking process information at any time throughout the day when the CPU goes for about 90%, and it should record that process. Additionally, real user and UI monitoring are not practical as management does not have real user monitoring for the application and SAP service for account servers.

There are some concerns with the recording performance of ManageEngine OpManager. It does not offer accurate monitoring when compared to SolarWinds. We have seen endpoint collections lag, there has been some choking with a particular link, and it doesn't record properly.

ManageEngine OpManager should include drill-down features. If for example, we wanted to monitor a particular link closely, it should not be an option, it should available.

We would like link monitoring included. At times we need to monitor those specific links closely.

ManageEngine OpManager could improve the default dashboards that are available. We are not able to customize them easily and they do not give us the information we need unless we customize them. You need to have the technical knowledge to be able to do it, the customization should be easier.

It is not doing a good job of monitoring items such as uptime and performance.

We get a lot of false alerts.

It needs better reliability.

They should add more features to URL monitoring. Also, they should include more synthetic features to get real-time insights in case of system downtime. It will help us prevent the issues from occurring further.

There needs to be improvements to make the solution capable of supporting more devices, and it would be good to see an option for automatic deployment.

I would like to see MDM for our VCM in this solution.

There should be an option to get mobile notifications or SMS mirror notifications for critical issues. That way, when we don't have access to email, we can still receive notifications via our phones.

The setup should be lightweight and not slow. The performance should be improved.
