PeerSpot takes a user-centered approach to creating product comparisons that help IT decision-makers arrive at informed decisions. Instead of relying on the word of the companies that create the technological solutions, they go to the users themselves. Real users offer true feedback without any of the partiality that the solutions’ vendors may have. This is a place where peers in the tech world unite to help each other choose the products that are most appropriate for their needs.
PeerSpot’s users have made it easy for decision-makers to choose the Virtual User Session Solutions that most fit their business objectives. They have created a ranked list of solutions according to how potentially valuable they feel these products may be to other users. What follows are the top six ranked products for 2022:
1. Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops
Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops is PeerSpot users’ favorite virtual user session solution. PeerSpot users also rank it number one in three other categories. They feel that it is the best overall application virtualization tool, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), and desktop as a service vendor.
There are a number of benefits that this solution offers users. It can enable administrators to protect system resources through granular controls. This allows users to secure themselves from malicious actors by assigning levels of resource access to specific parties. Additionally, it provides users with advanced options that enable them to monitor their systems. It also gives users the ability to remotely access apps coded using both Windows and Linux that are stored on their network. They can also remotely access computers that are secured in another location.
Rod M., the technical team lead at an energy and utilities company, writes, "In terms of scalability, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops have a lot of technologies baked in there that allow an organization to scale up or down, as required. Further, leveraging Azure for scalability has added value to our organization. For example, pre-COVID-19, we had very few resources in Azure. We had some Virtual Desktops and no application servers. When COVID-19 came along, we knew people were going to be home. We knew that we had to ramp up very quickly. We fully leveraged MCS to be able to scale. Being able to take a single image and build 400,000 Virtual Desktops, all within minutes, was second to none in terms of any other technology out there that we could have used.”
Jacques B., a senior engineer at a computer software company, writes, “The visibility the solution provides across SaaS, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments, for user and application traffic, is also limited if you do not enable all the services and is based on which services you are utilizing. Citrix provides end-to-end visibility based on their services you are utilizing.”
2. Microsoft Remote Desktop Services
For the last couple of months, PeerSpot users have ranked Microsoft Remote Desktop Services number two overall among all of the Virtual User Session solutions that they rated. They also rate it as the number two overall Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solution.
This solution offers users several distinct advantages. It enables users to remotely access vital programs that are contained in different frameworks. Session-based desktops and virtual machine-based desktops can both be accessed either via the internet or from within a company’s network. It can also allow users to create secure connections to devices, regardless of whether they are being managed by administrators. Any device can now be made secure enough for you to go about your business safely.
A Microsoft UC Solutions Manager at a tech services company writes, “The most valuable feature is the remote application access. You can update applications and assign them to different groups of users. For example, one user might require Microsoft Visio, whereas another user does not require it. Access can be granted by segmenting users into different groups.”
However, they also note, “There are problems with using Microsoft Teams within a virtual desktop on a mobile device. Specifically, if you are using Teams and conferencing, then there is no microphone capability. To be clear, if you install Teams directly on your mobile device then it will work. However, if you use it as an application within the virtual desktop that is running on the mobile device, it does not work. This is something that needs to be fixed.”
3. TeamViewer
TeamViewer is PeerSpot’s third highest ranked virtual user session solution. Additionally, PeerSpot users rank it as the number 2 virtual meeting solution. TeamViewer gives users the ability to access any computer from anywhere without sacrificing security. It also enables users to remotely back up their files. It is available in more than 30 languages.
Samuel M., an IT supervisor at a financial services firm, writes, “One thing I have noticed is that TeamViewer does not work so well when the machine you are trying to connect to remotely is not running the same version as your machine. It would also be great to be able to share a screen using TeamViewer like you would with Skype for Business.”
A Software Engineer at a tech services company writes, "I have found the solution to be user-friendly even for beginners. It is not that sophisticated. There are different types of security features available, such as encryption and random machine ID."
4. Check Point Remote Access VPN
Check Point Remote Access VPN is PeerSpot’s fourth highest ranked virtual user session solution. It gives users the ability to access their networks securely from any location that they want. Check Point Remote Access VPN offers users a number of benefits. Users can manage this solution from a single central control console. They can also securely access their networks from any device without needing to create an expensive infrastructure. The solution can be deployed in a number of different ways, offering users flexibility when they are deciding how they want to use it.
Alex T., the cyber security manager at H2O Power, writes, “The unified platform view is great. Being able to manage NGFW alongside our Remote Access Policies allows us to control traffic in one way. Be it if our users are at home or in the office the same policy applies to them allowing us to have one corporate view on the traffic within our organization.”
A network security engineer at a financial services firm writes, "When you want to deploy a new CheckPoint agent, it is really a pain in the butt. For example, Windows 10 now has updates almost every couple of months. It changes the versioning and things under the hood. These are things that I don't understand, because I'm not a Windows person. However, I know that the Check Point client is installed on the Windows machine, and if the Check Point client is not kept up-to-date, then it's functionality breaks. It has to be up-to-date with the Windows versions. Check Point has to update the client more often. Now, the problem is that the Check Point client is not easy to update on remote computers and it's not easy to deploy a new client."
- ConnectWise Control
ConnectWise Control has been ranked by PeerSpot users as number 5. It is a highly flexible solution that enables users to securely and remotely support devices, access devices, and conduct virtual meetings. ConnectWise Control can easily be customized to meet whatever needs a user happens to have. Additionally, it is compatible with a number of different operating systems. This makes it easy for technicians to provide support when necessary.
Steve S., technology and logistics director at a media company, writes, “It offers more security than TeamViewer, Google Remote Desktop, and Zoom. It's a stable, feature-rich solution that's easy to set up and easy to scale."
Cobus B., the managing director at NETCB, writes, "Something that I would like to see in the future is mobile video streaming. They do provide audio conferencing, but seeing the problem makes it easier to solve the problem. If they had video streaming, if a client had a physical problem with something and I couldn't get remote access, the client could use his mobile phone to show me the problem. In these cases, even if a client's systems were down, I could help, so long as I had a mobile phone environment."
5. ISL Online
ISL Online is PeerSpot’s sixth highest ranked virtual user session solution. It is a secure solution that enables users to access and control their business computers from anywhere in the world. ISL Online functions across operating systems and gives users a great deal of flexibility in customizing their approach to connecting to and managing their systems. The wealth of features provides users with many options to choose from when they are conducting business.
Ziga K., an IT specialist, writes, “You can group them so that it's very organized. It's easy to organize all the computers which are important as we have hundreds of computers in the system. It's really good that we just see the customer name, click on it, then we see all the computers, and then we choose the computer we want to connect to. We don't have to go through the procedure with the customer every time. They put in the number and then we connect. They download the program, then open it, and we connect to them. It's very simple.”
Tine K., a network and systems administrator at TV Slivenija, writes, "I would like to have a little bit more information when new features are released. They have added features that I didn't know about in the past. It would be easier for me to implement new features and consolidate them with other systems in our network if I knew beforehand."
