HPE Ethernet Switches Other Advice

I only recommend two products. It is mainly HPE. Sometimes, the other one is Huawei.

Overall, I would rate the solution a seven out of ten because there is room for improvement in pricing.

Based on my experience with various switches over the past six years, I recommend going for a reliable product with good service backup.

While cheap products might offer initial efficiency, they tend to hang up when data usage goes up and goes down. Then, down the people need to switch to a different solution.

It's better to invest in scalable, affordable, and well-supported switches like HPE in the first go.

I rate HPE Ethernet switches a solid eight out of 10. This is the best product to get if you're not doing something special. If you're doing something odd, you should consider going with Cisco.

There are many cheaper options, but they don't have lifetime hardware support. That's one of the reasons I like HPEs better.

The network is managed by the command line and monitored by several systems. We have our integrations for provisioning the switches. We use standard features of the tool for the access layer. There’s nothing special. The product has a software-defined access system, but we do not use it. Overall, I rate the product an eight out of ten.

I am using the latest version of HPE Ethernet Switches.

One or two engineers are required for the solution's deployment and maintenance, but it depends on the customer site.

HPE Ethernet Switches are more suited for enterprise-level customers. However, Cisco is the best solution for data center-level customers.

HP has significantly impacted our data center operations and business processes, primarily in terms of stability. We can easily replace components without incurring significant costs in an error or failure.

The security features have enhanced our network environment's overall safety and security. The scalability has been excellent for our business needs. We can easily extend our network as needed.

The reliability of HPE Ethernet Switches, in terms of uptime and performance, is good. We have no concerns in this regard. I rate the overall solution a nine out of ten. You need to choose the right switching system for your network. The tool offers a wide range of modules, so it is important to select the ones that best serve their specific needs. For instance, if they require high bandwidth, they should opt for those designed for that purpose. Similarly, they should choose the appropriate switching system for a standard network.

I rate HPE Ethernet Switches a ten out of ten. I recommend the product to everybody who wants to use it. HPE gives you a lifetime warranty on their switches, promising to fix them any time they break down. That tells you the product is reliable.

The pricing could be better, but I don't blame them for their price. HPE is not a small-business switch, especially the ProCurve switches, which are a bit expensive. Cisco prices are also not cheap, so I'm sure it's because of the competition. If HPE should make their prices a bit cheaper while Cisco keeps their price up there, it implies that Cisco is much more reliable than HPE. For competition's sake, reducing their price might not be something that can be done unless it can still be competitive at that level.

Hardware can last for a while. You have all of options to upgrade the switches, a lot of options to support the connectivities, like 1 GB, 10 GB, 40 GBs, different varieties of the switches. You can choose from.

I just want to say that best thing about HP is they don't have a technology called a Spanning Tree Protocol, which can cause a lot of issues on your network, and HP kind of get rid of that. When you do a HP IRF, you kind of don't need that Spanning Tree, which is the most important part about HP.

Other than that, again it's a hardware stability. Hardware stability, they have IRF for the switches to virtualize your switches. The easy set of command line, with the new Comware 7.

Cost, reliability, serviceability, warranty, and not needing to purchase a support pack each year are important in helping choose the right vendor.

Depending on what you need to accomplish the different models of the switches, start at the bottom and work up. A lot of functionality in the lower end switches may not be a need for the higher ones. Also, look at the stacking on the lower end switches.

Support is great when needed, pricing is great, warranty can’t be beat, and lots of partners out there.

When it comes to HPE switches, as a recommendation, in the end it depends on the requirements. They have to know exactly what they need because HPE has all types and all levels of switches. They keep changing models, and sometimes we have challenges because we find out that two years later, the model is discontinued. Because of this, I say that it is important to purchase the latest model, and not one that is two or three years old because in another year it will be discontinued.

When selecting a vendor of ethernet switches, there are not so many alternatives on the market. We wanted to work with companies we are used to. We had to choose between Cisco and HPE. Because we've always been very happy with HPE and there was a brand new series of advanced features that integrated nicely with IMC, we selected the HPE product.

When choosing a vendor, reliability, performance, obsessively competitive price comes into it, but it is also about supply chains and availability of stock. I had buyers in the past where you can't get equipment when you need it. It is important to have a good support chain. The vendors that we use need to be knowledgeable in the products and work closely with HPE, so that is probably a very important part of that puzzle. HPE has always been strong, I would say, and have had a good reseller and third party support market. I think it is a strong solution.

They're not Cisco, and big companies want to see a name like Cisco. True, HP isn't Cisco, but that's a bit unfair. Having that said, we've got one very big company now with about 200 users who are getting rid of their Cisco switches and putting in HP's.

They're doing so because of HP's reliability and because they got fed up with paying Cisco prices to get their switches and to configure them when any network administrator can configure an HP switch. With Cisco, you need specialist knowledge and you don't really have to have specialist knowledge just for a switch.
