What do you think of SharePoint?

SharePoint has conquered the enterprise intranet. Although the conquest is never as bloody nor expensive as more invasive conquests, such as the Mongols under Genghis Khan, intranet citizens are not always thrilled by the new system and structure under Gates Khan. SharePoint is present in 80% of the Fortune 100; and plays a prominent intranet role in about 70% of knowledge worker intranets (either powering the main intranet portal, or delivering associated collaboration sites and/or document repositories). This in spite of its history. SharePoint 2007 was a dog; SharePoint 2010 was a dressed-up dog; but SharePoint 2013 represents a leap forward, and SharePoint 2016 and Office 365 represent considerable improvement into a a very usable, complex digital workplace solution. ...

    What is most valuable?

Each feature has its merits. * WordPress has the ability to add numerous plugins. * Contact forms * A Shopping Cart * It has a vast array of themes which could be applied to make the website visually look more appealing to the target market.

How has it helped my organization?

This program, WordPress, has made it possible for our company to advertise all around the country, instead of keeping it local. Without the potential customers actually coming into the store, it shows them what we do, which we believe is... more»

    What needs improvement?

I cannot say what exactly could be improved per se as the program is pretty flawless as it is. It may be useful, however, to have a downloadable program that you could have on your desktop that allows you to create and maintain the program... more»

    What is most valuable?

    * Content management: It helps the end user to input/update the content on his own without approaching the developer, once the site is built. * Awesome community. * A large number of modules which help in extending the functionality. * An open-source solution. * It is a secure solution. * There is a constant development of new core features.

    What needs improvement?

Since Drupal is not developed for any specific use cases, it has some learning curve and requires effort to learn. Thus, there is a need for good documentation.

    What is most valuable?

The ability to control web content within a structured version system and its unique capability to receive extension modules and plugins. The extension power makes this software a great ally for building new systems. I usually see this... more»

How has it helped my organization?

Information and content are the key elements. Using Liferay to control our web content allows us to have a centralized information hub. We can discuss, contribute, and review pieces of content as it evolves with time. All this occurs while... more»

    What needs improvement?

Although it has been improving, I cannot shake the feeling that it was released too early. It came with several problems, and new releases came extremely fast to correct the previous ones. Now, in its GA3, the differences are noticeable... more»

    What is most valuable?

This CMS is very easy to use and can be enhanced with various modifications (most of them are free).

How has it helped my organization?

I didn't use it for the companies I worked for, but installed it for many people I know. This CMS lets you create an own website within minutes, no matter if the user has knowledge in coding.

    What needs improvement?

Joomla itself seems to be secure, but many add-ons are badly written and allow LFI, RFI, SQL injection and XSS attacks. You have to be very careful when it comes to choosing the right add-ons. I wrote an article once which described the... more»

What do you think of Sitecore Experience Manager?

I feel a little bad giving Sitecore a 6/10, because I think the problems the organisation I worked for had with it were partially because of:  - shiny toy purchase - not fit for the org's purpose (more to do with the org) - UX and UI was poor meaning users didn't engage with it even after training However, some of the problems were because of Sitecore CMS - the upgrade paths were a horror. Yes, it was an old version but for us to get off of that old version we had to take three separate projects with each one incurring significant cost to the org. After toting it all up, including all of the support costs and licensing, it just wasn't worth it.  So, okay, we have some of the bad points but some of the good points are as follows:  - it's a CMS with the usual features...
