What do you think of SAP Lumira?

What is our primary use case?

Data visualization and data preparation are the primary uses.

What is most valuable?

It is fairly easy and fast when it comes to using it.

What needs improvement?

An easier printing feature.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability is pretty decent (not bad).

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is highly scalable.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is pretty straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

This solution is easy to use. It is unbelievable to use for operations and exploration.

What is most valuable?

Geographic hierarchy and the ability to connect with SAP sources, such as CRM, ERP, and BW. Several data visualization tools do not support this. I am currently a student and what I like about it is the overall user-friendly experience. It is easy to manage and understand.

What needs improvement?

It needs the ability to drill down more. Analyzing data with Lumira at times becomes a bit difficult. Once you know what is where, one can design the visualization. To know what is where using Lumira is difficult.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

This is my first solution of this type. It was provided by the university for all students to help them with their studies.

What other advice do I have?

It has a good interface. It is not so good for analysis.

What is most valuable?

The most value that Lumira provides is in its ability to consume the Business Objects universe.

How has it helped my organization?

In our experience, it hasn't improved our organization.

What needs improvement?

There are improvement that need to be made everywhere. Lumira's capabilities feel like that of a store app with the intuitiveness of a desktop app, which is not a good combination. For SAP, Lumira may… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

PowerBI is way more capable at a much better price point: $10 per user without all the associated setup costs.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I started with Lumira first, but it’s like Chinese food - it's satisfying at first, but you quickly find yourself wanting more.

What other advice do I have?

Don't waste your time. Lumira falls short of its competitors in this space both in capabilities and in ease of use. It has somewhat of a updated front end, but it suffers from its cobbling together of… more»

What is most valuable?

* Beautiful visualizations * Data cleansing * Slice and dice reports

How has it helped my organization?

This is a tool that gives more power to the user. Now we don't have to wait on our IT teams to create or change reports. Once IT gives us a static list of ingredients (fields), we can create our own recipes (charts and tables) without further IT dependence.

What needs improvement?

It would be great to have more ETL capabilities so that the user can do more cleansing/mining on his/her side.

What other advice do I have?

Lumira is a really good data exploration tool. Download the desktop tool and give it a try.

What is most valuable?

Ability to quickly and easily create visualizations with large datasets.

How has it helped my organization?

We’ve created several dashboards that display large sets of data in an insightful and easily digestible way.

What needs improvement?

Each quarterly upgrade has new features, but then existing features tend to break. This is highly frustrating and affects existing Lumira documents. It also needs more functionality when creating… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We had no previous solution was in place.

What other advice do I have?

Choose a few people to become super users with Lumira (one business user and one technical user), and allow them to champion the product and teach others what they’ve learned. Watch YouTube videos!

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I wasn’t involved in the decision. A key decision maker in my organization uses Tableau and raves about it. I believe we went with Lumira since it was part of the SAP product stack and thus… more»

What is most valuable?

I like the integration, so it's easy to integrate different data sources. Then you can play with the data in the first screen that basically turns it into a table. I like that, that I can integrate multiple sources of data.

How has it helped my organization?

To be honest, the way I function, I'm not sure it has improved the organization. I work for an SAP third-party vendor, so I got my Lumira license through my company. Basically, we use it because it's an SAP product and we have a certain… more»

What needs improvement?

An area of improvement, for sure, is the flexibility of the visualization. Often, my clients want us to see the data in a very specific way, maybe with their color palettes or whatever they want to see. Lumira is not very flexible when it… more»

What other advice do I have?

My rating is because I see the potential that it has for the business user. I don't think it's quite at the point where it's flexible enough to be a stand-alone data visualization tool, the only one you use, because, as I've mentioned, I… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I've used Tableau before. I like Tableau. The company I work for now doesn't have a license for Tableau, and they have a license for Lumira. I wanted to leverage Lumira for the same functions as Tableau. I would say that, to be honest, it's… more»

How has it helped my organization?

It's very easy to import data and also to create formulas and so on. In that sense, it's really easy and friendly. Also, it made creating charts, and especially, for example, the bubble charts, really easy and very powerful. I've been… more»

What needs improvement?

It would be valuable if I could more easily share what I do. Right now, where I work, we have SAP BusinessObjects, but there's no way to easily store on a server and share. If we could store models I create in a folder that I could share… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used SAP Dashboard Designer, and switched because SAP Dashboard Designer is too much work. Every time, if, for example, you have the data through May, and then the June data arrives, you want to update it. Your source file updates… more»

What other advice do I have?

It's really user-friendly.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Lumira was very useful for me, but now I have more needs, and I have to move faster because I am responsible for a lot of data, and a lot of information that I have to provide to the directors and VPs. I need a tool that works really fast… more»

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are all of the analytical dashboards, which then pull real-time data. We can prepare a summary and, with these dashboards, anybody can build it and they are all self-service tools. You don't really need to program and you don't need any high tech people to hand over the… more»

How has it helped my organization?

We haven't actually done anything. We are just exploring. We are doing a couple of proof of concepts. We haven't realized anything in production. We have something planned. I was given a glimpse of what we intend to do. We have a lot of data sitting on our database. We would like to deliver an… more»

What needs improvement?

One area where I would like to see improvement is the speed. It needs so much resources. I would like to see everything running on the server rather than having it separated between the Lumira server and Lumira desktop, with one flavor here, one flavor there. I would like to have everything in one… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In the past, we used some of the other reporting tools, but they all needed a lot of technical expertise. Those are not true self-service tools. You need to have a shadow IT team in the business for some of them. With Lumira, I don’t expect any IT guy to utilize the tools. Once you get all the data… more»

What is most valuable?

I think rapid development, geospatial coding, using it to connect to multiple data sources are all good selling points for it. That's important to our company because it enables self-service or data as a service for the end-user community.

How has it helped my organization?

We've streamlined our tool selection. A lot of other groups within the company have used other products, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, and then Lumira came into play. Being an SAP company, we're trying to have people gravitate towards one… more»

What needs improvement?

I think there is room for improvement in connectivity, basic connectivity across data sources or datasets. HANA is a new set that we could connect to, but there are limitations for blending data with multiple sources with HANA. Same thing… more»

It's cool that you can download a 30-day trial. I'd like to see that maybe more of an extended trial.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I didn't previously use a different solution but other people in the functional team did. The switch was a result of a corporate IT initiative to standardize on one set of tools.

What is most valuable?

How has it helped my organization?

It gave me the ability to see things that I otherwise wouldn't see from a pivot table.

What needs improvement?

I think probably what I was trying to do at the time was create some sort of map if you will. I work a lot with freight data, transportation data and I've been trying to find a solution to show… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Most of what I do is in Excel and Access. So Lumira and the other options I looked at were really to supplement that rather than to replace anything else that I was using.

What other advice do I have?

It was comparable to the other solutions that I looked at as far as being able to just get in there and dump some data in and go.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

It seemed to be fairly user friendly. I've also done trials on Tableau and Spotfire before and I would say I had limited interactions with both of those as well, it's probably on par with both of… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

What is most valuable?

What is most valuable?

The connection almost covers our main RDBMS and SAP products. Users can fix, operate datasets, and build a story on top of it. How has it helped my organization?

I would say Lumira is very user friendly and easy to learn for a business analyst and their clients. It removes dependency on IT, and a business can sometimes build their own story from a dataset. That’s a huge improvement for our organization.

What needs improvement?

It has some limitations when operating BW data, and has limited functions when mixing different data sources. Also, the publishing and sharing integration with BIP and other cloud products needs work.

What other advice do I have?

This product is amazing and changes how people think of the relationship between IT and businesses. It makes processes easier and faster and enables businesses to know exactly what they need so that their storyboard becomes more accurate and easy for them to present.

What is most valuable?

* Data analysis * Data visualization * Selection of data from various sources * Easy reporting tool for business analysts

How has it helped my organization?

* Fast response * Easier to use than our previous solution * Can do the data manipulation and altering * Can be installed on desktops * Easy to download and install * No technical expertise required for data analysis

What needs improvement?

The Cloud/Edge version of SAP Lumira still needs to be more user friendly. It's still in the initial stages, so we can expect more features in future releases. SAP is coming up with a new improved cloud version.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We chose it because of it's ability to have a selection of data from various sources, and it's an easy reporting tool for business analysts to use.

What other advice do I have?

It's a pretty good solution, but you should wait for SAP’s new improved version of Lumira.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated Tableau. It requires bit of an expertise in the usage of the product. Lumira is easy to understand and learn. Plus the easy integration with SAP. Also, licensing reasons.

What is most valuable?

The ability to merge enriched data from different sources and also to connect to SAP HANA live data. It is also embedded in SAP HANA live analytics which cuts down time to deliver a solution to users. It also helps power users to design their own Lumira stories without any need for IT.

What needs improvement?

It needs to have more complex and enriched chart functions.
