Task-based or, alternatively, a fixed number of Agents. Task-based would, I feel, be much more popular in the market. I have worked ta sites that license anything from 5,000 to 500,000 jobs (i.e. tasks) per day. However, if you only use a few Agent servers then maybe Agent-based might work for you.
Really big customers can also do "all you can eat" deals on the BMC range.

BMC also has a SaaS-based solution called BMC Helix Control-M. I believe this is charged via the task licensing model where you pay for a certain number of jobs.
@reviewer1657833 Yes, the new addition is BMC Helix Control-M, a cloud-based solution where you pay per job. From the pricing models I have seen it is very competitively priced and could save large organisations a tidy sum. This is not to be confused with the Control-M Agents that can run in the cloud (to execute your batch jobs) where the Control-M Server stays on-prem and is the traditional config.
