What is most valuable?

I can turn on features without actually owning a license. I can test them out, I can use them for a while, and then I can be licensed up. That's awesome. I don't have to have a license immediately… more »

How has it helped my organization?

For some of my deployments, NetScaler has been strictly a replacement to get something new in. It was cheaper than F5. We took a chance on it. The return on investment is the fact that we spent less… more »

What needs improvement?

From an SDX perspective, having the ability to spin up a VPX, the way we spin up our regular features, quickly and have a 60-day trial while we spin up VPXs will give us the opportunity to do more… more »

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are the regular license costs and you also have to pay for licenses if you want more DPXs or whatever. A standard DPX is fairly cheap. It's around $7,000.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

NetScaler does the same thing as an F5 and it's cheaper.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate it an eight out of ten because nobody is a ten. I would give it a nine if it was a little easier to pick up. Out of the box it's easy. Anybody who's an engineer can usually pick it up or… more »

What is most valuable?

It mobilizes everything in and out, leading over bandwidth and manages all of the applications. We use it for front-end crafting.

How has it helped my organization?

For desktop application management, I recommend the NetScaler edition. This product is like a Swiss army knife. Citrix NetScaler ADC supports the education front-end.

What needs improvement?

There are a lot of features. It has to keep up with the demands of the network for complete file management. Citrix should improve the documentation. It is not really clear how to set up many features… more »

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing is adequate. I wanted to have a more prominent license, but until I do they don't give enough support. The additional cost would be too much. If NetScaler is broken, we can open tickets very… more »

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We started as a Citrix client at first. We used NetScaler in the very beginning. For a long time, we have only used this one product.

What other advice do I have?

Citrix NetScaler already has tons of features, already too many. We want any new advanced features that they release. One thing that scares me is that with existing products, Citrix does not have… more »

What is most valuable?

Citrix is a complete solution for those looking for an all-in-one. It's all there, the NetScaler gateway, remote access, internet access, optimization, load balancing, you have Citrix desktop publishing and VDAs. You can create a complete… more »

What needs improvement?

The solution has too many bugs in the software and it's always difficult when you need to update. If you have bugs in one firmware and you fix them and then update, sometimes it doesn't work in the correct way. Even when there are new… more »

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I think the price is okay.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I worked for a long time with F5. I've only worked with Microsoft and Cisco solutions. We're currently checking other options for a new customer.

What other advice do I have?

If anyone wants to implement this solution, it's important to be clear about your use case in order to grow with the product. Functionality always depends on the underlying networking. If there is trouble in the underlying networking, then… more »

What is most valuable?

I find all of it to be valuable, because of the flexibility that is built into this product. If we need an on-premises load balancer, it's easy enough to spin those up here an there and the VPN seems… more »

How has it helped my organization?

We have a custom application that we use, and we were able to port it over from a legacy system into the ADC.

What needs improvement?

The licensing model that Citrix employs need to be improved. There are specific features that we like but are not available at our licensing level. There are certain features that are very useful and… more »

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's an expensive product but it works well.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we used Juniper VPN. The hardware was older.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to anyone who is looking at implementing Citrix ADC is if they need flexibility, it's a stable product. It's one of the better appliances that I have used, even in a virtual environment… more »

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the securing of virtual apps and desktops. This solution increases the backend network service performance, which is one of the things that we like the most.

What needs improvement?

Bugs in the software have had an impact on us. Better quality control or quality assurance would be an improvement. Some of our customers have questioned the security of this solution lately… more »

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing costs for this solution vary depending on which model is being used. It comes in many different sizes and models. I think that the cost of support, or maintenance, might be in addition… more »

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to this solution, we used F5 BIG-IP and the Azure Load Balancer.

What other advice do I have?

This is definitely a solution that I recommend. I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Our clients do evaluate other options and vendors such as F5, Cisco, Palo Alto, and Microsoft Azure before deciding on which solution to implement. People generally choose Citrix NetScaler because of… more »

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the management and application delivery for Layer 7 traffic.

How has it helped my organization?

The product has helped us a lot with load balancing because we had limited experience with it.

What needs improvement?

At the current time, the solution is not missing any features that I would like to have implemented.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have a yearly licencing fee, and there are no additional costs.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to this, we used the Cisco ACE solution until the product was discontinued.

What other advice do I have?

Customers need to look to the future and purchase the right model for their necessities. A new license can be purchased, rather than additional boxes. I would rate this… more »

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We used Cisco ACE, and they were the ones who recommended that we switch to this solution. We took their advice and we are pleased with it.

What is most valuable?

The load balancing is one of the most valuable features. We have several load balancing solutions like F5 and Fortinet.

What needs improvement?

I will try to migrate all the tools to the cloud because there is more lab and more VPN scalability available in the cloud. It is not available on-premises.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are also familiar with F5.

What other advice do I have?

I would tell someone considering this solution to know your use cases and get good documentation. When we experienced an issue, we made documents and we can share those documents and share all the details to help provide others with… more »

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also evaluated Fortinet but we found that it is not that good a solution in terms of it being user-friendly and it was not very scalable. Comparatively, FortiGate is a good option, and reading-wise I think it's good.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is load balancing. This solution will do both global and local load balancing. The WAF features are very helpful.

What needs improvement?

The WAF component needs to be simplified so that it is easier to use. In the next release, I would like to see more firewall policy support.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Our licensing fees including technical support are approximately $3,500 USD.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not use another solution prior to this one.

What other advice do I have?

My advice for anybody who is considering this product is that it works best for small-scale industry. I would recommend this for a small business, but not for larger organizations. It works quite well… more »

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated a solution by F5, but we found it to be a little complex and we didn't proceed with it.
