Easy to configure and troubleshoot, but they need more visibility in the licensing model

What is our primary use case?

We use these routers to connect our customers. We use them for client access, and we use them in the network core. We also use them on the edge, for security. We have some of their security products sitting at the edge of our network, and we use Huawei laptops to connect our customers from their premises. Sometimes, they use their own on-premises equipment. We have the big NE40-X8 and NE5000E routers everywhere in our infrastructure. In addition to the network core, this includes the client edge, client access edge, and we had them at the internet edge. We also use their Huawei equipment for… more »

Pros and Cons

  • "The configuration syntax makes it easy for us to configure the device and perform troubleshooting when needed."
  • "Essentially, they need to open their licensing model such that when a customer buys a device, they have a full view of all of the available licenses for it."

What other advice do I have?

I like to use this product and most of our deployments are now products from Huawei. We don't have any problems with these routers. I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

A stable solution with good technical support for interconnecting our branch offices

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution for interconnecting our branch offices. We have six branches in addition to our head office. All of our routers are on-premises deployments.

  • "Cisco has one of the best products in terms of routing because of the protocols in which they provide."
  • "In terms of room for improvement, I think that there is a need for additional administration."

What other advice do I have?

Mostly, this is a very good product. I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Reasonably priced and the bandwidth management capabilities are good

What is our primary use case?

I am a solution provider and I deploy this product for my customers. Primarily, it is used for last-mile access. When I deploy it in an enterprise environment, It is normally for bandwidth control.

Pros and Cons

  • "The most valuable feature is its bandwidth management ability."
  • "They should improve technical support and make direct access available to the customers."

What other advice do I have?

My advice for anybody who is implementing MikroTik Routers is to make sure that they have the requisite toolsets onboard to manage the devices so that they don't run into problems. Otherwise, it is a good and inexpensive product to use. I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

A stable product that offers enhanced security via machine learning assessment tools

What is our primary use case?

My team is in charge of auditing the security infrastructure of these routers. I perform penetration testing and blue teaming in pursuit of this effort. Our customers for this product are typically government departments. In the current project, we are designing smart cities, in which these routers are part of the infrastructure.

Pros and Cons

  • "The most valuable feature is the artificial intelligence assessment models."
  • "There should be a system in place to help existing users make an easier transition to the newer interfaces."

What other advice do I have?

In summary, this is a good product and I recommend it. I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Good firewall capability, and the mangle feature is useful

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and this is one of the products that we implement for our clients.

Pros and Cons

  • "There are a lot of features to control permitting or stopping packets in the network."
  • "Antispam and antivirus features should be included in the future."

What other advice do I have?

I think that Mikrotik is the best solution for SOHO and small businesses because the price is very good and it includes a lot of features. For larger companies, I would recommend a different product, perhaps by Cisco. I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
