What is most valuable?

* Ease of use * Ease of setup * Stability Those would be the three things I really like about it.

How has it helped my organization?

It has allowed us to centralize the software location so we don't have to update the software client on 70 computers. It's just the one or two servers that we have, and… more»

What needs improvement?

The main issue we have with all of our users is printing. Randomly, a printer will disconnect or someone won't connect to it and I will have to reset the print service and… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I feel the product's pricing is of good value. We have reviewed pricing on other software products, Citrix and products like that, and we realized that for the same basic… more»

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

We did not have a previous solution. The company I worked for before was taking over IT and we realized they were going to need this kind of solution. I don't know how the… more»

What other advice do I have?

Make sure you have security groups set up for who's going to be using which applications. Other than that, it's stable, it's easy to set up. Once it's set up, you don't… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We didn't really test out anything else that I know of. When I came in, the decision had already been made. We have reviewed other solutions in the past, like Citrix but… more»

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is our control. If I want to disable a user I just go to that particular user and disable them. And if I want to publish any application, if… more»

How has it helped my organization?

The connection is compressed so we don't need a lot of resources to run it. Also, the ease of use. Initially, before using Parallels, we had to manually install whatever… more»

What needs improvement?

They don't have any local support here. It's not that we need it much because for us it is very stable, the upgrades/updates are quite good, and they come at regular… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It justifies the price. In terms of licensing, initially when we got the product it was an unlimited licensing strategy. We knew would grow in the coming years. So… more»

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

Initially, we were just using the traditional way of installing. We were not even aware that there was a solution in the market. When we did our research we came to know… more»

What other advice do I have?

The implementation could be a bit complex because it is not a normal solution. It is not just a plug and play. But once it starts it is pretty easy to manage. The software… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

When we thought of doing this we looked at other solutions as well but, cost-wise, Parallels was on the positive side, so that is the reason we went ahead with Parallels.

What is most valuable?

It is robust. We have some 75 users using it and it doesn't lag. It's very speedy.

How has it helped my organization?

We would not be able to function without it.

What needs improvement?

One area which I would say needs a lot of improvement: Since I've been here less than a year, I have had to upgrade the system three times. The first time was the major upgrade but they have upgraded twice since, and I think that's too many… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is a little steep, but I really couldn't go to anyone else because it is so integrated into our system.

What other advice do I have?

Do your homework. Call, see if you can speak to three customers who use it and get their opinion. Also get three different quotes, or three similar products, and see how they work. I would rate it an eight out of 10. As I said, when it's… more»

What is most valuable?

* Easy to install * Super stable * Easy to manage

How has it helped my organization?

It permits us to control the applications that our users are able to get to, in a seamless manner. We're able to distribute applications to users' desktops, just like… more»

What needs improvement?

It's a really good product. There's not a lot that needs improving, and we're on an older version. I imagine the newer versions are better but we have not had a single… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I think the new pricing is a little bit high. If the price was lower, we could use it for many more customers. If there was one improvement to be made to this product, it… more»

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

Citrix. We switched because Citrix is complicated and expensive.

What other advice do I have?

Everything can be improved, so I give it an eight out of 10. It does everything we need it to do, it's stable; with the caveat that there is no perfect solution. If you're… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Citrix and the native Microsoft Remote Desktop. The latter is very hard it is to install, and makes us mad.

What is most valuable?

Ease of use in publishing apps and installing the agent. The Interface is fairly intuitive after some tinkering. Although I inherited the app only two-thirds deployed, I was able to complete the deployment and service it over the last year… more»

How has it helped my organization?

Enables deployment of remote apps from a central location.

What needs improvement?

* Customer support * Ease of end-user use Opening a ticket should be available from the actual RAS console. It is cumbersome to go to a portal, hunt around for five minutes for a link to open a ticket, answer questions meant to direct you… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Work with the vendor, as this is a fairly new product and they want use cases. Deals can be made.

What other advice do I have?

Test extensively, especially with custom-built apps, as these can have issues, though overall the experience is smooth.

What is most valuable?

* Thin client management (Windows 10 client) provides an easy way to lock down client connection to the remote infrastructure. * Policies are very helpful for preconfiguring client behavior. * Client… more»

How has it helped my organization?

Accelerates deployment of thin clients and remote desktop servers in the farm.

What needs improvement?

HALB is not stable in our environment. When running two HALBs we have stability problems, so we use an active one and a passive for backup. Also, it would be nice to implement an upgrade of the… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is good.

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

Native remote desktop.

What other advice do I have?

Read the manual.

What is most valuable?

Stability and reliability. Because our clients use this as the way to access their work every day, and we use it to support them, we need to know it won't let us or them… more»

How has it helped my organization?

Allows staff to work from anywhere with an internet connection, on just about any connected device.

What needs improvement?

We have been working with the Parallels team on some printing issues and are hopeful they will be resolved in the next patch release.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing has always been competitive, and the new SPLA licensing model works great for our business and clients.

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

Citrix and native RDS. Citrix was more costly for a product that was no better and RDS has had a number of limitations over the years.

What other advice do I have?

Install a demo and give it a go. It is very quick and will generally be all you need to be converted to a user of Parallels RAS.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Citrix, MS RDS, and Ericom Blaze. We also do keep an eye on the other products in the market to make sure we are always providing the best solution for our clients.

What is most valuable?

Comparable performance to Citrix for our use case at a significantly lower cost. Straightforward installation and capable management front-end.

How has it helped my organization?

Simplifies external connections with community-based organizations by allowing us to publish applications to them, accessible by current-generation HTML5 browser or… more»

What needs improvement?

Improvement is needed in performance monitoring of the client's endpoint, and automatic re-connection of the client in the event of circuit disruptions (this works well… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is clear and there are relatively few options or other pricing considerations when compared to similar products. Just be sure not to forget the Microsoft licensing… more»

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

I have used Citrix in previous organizations with good results but I lacked the budget to acquire Citrix for this implementation.

What other advice do I have?

Take advantage of the trial version so that you can check out its feature set first-hand, get a sense of its performance on your hardware and over your network.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Citrix, Windows RDS.
