ExtremeCloud IQ Pricing

Owner at Sebitu

The pricing is so cost-effective that it leaves no room for competition with other vendors.

Previously, ExtremeCloudIQ provided free licensing for all the basic requirements of their customers. An advanced cloud user had to purchase advanced licenses for automation and advanced country features at the enterprise level. They have restricted the licensing, allowing only up to ten units for testing, which is challenging.

This limitation becomes problematic, especially in countries like Sri Lanka or other Asian countries, where customers face economic challenges and have limited budgets. The previous free option was beneficial, but it has become tougher to manage with these new changes. They should revise their pricing structure, offering the basic features free of charge for up to 50 AP. Larger entities with more than 50 APs have the budget to support them. Still, it becomes more difficult for small and medium-sized businesses with less than 50 APs to allocate a significant budget for control and management features.

ExtremeCloud IQ's pricing is medium, but its support contract costs more. The solution's technical support is not free, and you have to pay additionally for technical support. I rate the solution a six out of ten for pricing.

I can't recall the exact pricing. As I recall, it's on the higher side. I have seen other solutions such as Meraki from Cisco Aruba. Extreme is on the higher side. I'd rate it a four out of five in terms of affordability as the cost is quite high.

You simply need a regular license to begin using it.

I haven't done an in-depth analysis, but I think it's competitive. I couldn't tell you if it's the cheapest, but I have no reason to believe that it's out of line with the prices on the market. If you ask the superintendent of a co-op if the price of a product could be better, the answer will always be "yes."

You get what you pay for. In my experience, you want to ensure you're buying something of reputable quality, and you have a duty to pay a reasonable price when you're spending public funds. There are other considerations, too. How long is it going to last? Are you going to have ongoing support? Is that support going to be delivered in a timely manner?

Our APs were around $630 per unit. We did have to purchase HiveManager licenses for each AP at around $110 per AP. This price is low considering we have had no issues with the system.

Extreme licensing is based on the number of access points. When you buy the license for the first year, everything is included, such as access to mapping, etc. If you don't renew your software assurance for the second year, the access points will still work, but you can't use the cloud management tools.

A lot of customers will say that ExtremeCloud isn't affordable. However, I think the price is reasonable compared to Aruba and Cisco. As a seller, I believe the price is competitive, but customers don't want to pay licensing fees. In South Africa, once I've bought something, it must work forever.

The solution is moderately priced. I’d rate it a three out of five in terms of affordability. If five is the highest, which would be Cisco, I would say Extreme definitely gets most of their business by not being as expensive as Cisco. And the licensing also costs less, which is a big selling point.

Extreme is twice as cheap compared to Cisco due to the currency exchange. Normally, I think Cisco would be a little bit more expensive, but there wouldn't be that much of a difference.

It has been a while, but I believe it was around 5k for the Hive manager virtual appliance and then the price of each AP which range from $400-$1100. Day to day cost is pretty much nothing other than when I need to provision a new AP or update a network policy. As I said before, I can go weeks at a time without even looking at it.

There are good discounts for purchasing APs with the support up front. Go for the three- or five-year options if budget allows. The heat map tends to be very conservative so you might be able to use fewer APs than the tool suggests. An extra AP or two is cheaper than a full site survey.

Pricing of Aerohive Access Points are reasonable. They provide educational discount as well as BOGOF offers when buying in bulk. Licensing is straightforward, 1, 3 or 5 year license per access point. Included in that price is cloud management for that access point.

All in, our deployment was under 5K for a medium size office of about 75. There really is no day to day cost associated with using Aerohive. It’s been cruising along without issue since deployment, with minimal time spent making configuration tweaks and updating firmware on occasion.

CEO with 1-10 employees

I would advise that you be sure to compare apples with apples. Many customers just look at the price per AP and licences, and compare that against other solutions. But, they do not look at the complete picture such as:

  • TCO - how much the equipment will cost you over, say, seven years?
  • Will the customer need to change complete infrastructure when they want to buy the newest hardware?
  • Does support include a lifetime warranty and RMA?

For example, if you compare Aruba vs Aerohive, you need to check which licences from Aruba you need to match the functionality of Aerohive (usually you need at least three types of licences and a controller with redundancy). The same goes with Cisco, where you need buy additional licences for central management, firewall, spectral analysis, WIPS, PPSK, etc. Aerohive has a very simple model - one licence for all the functionalities - and you can believe that there are many. One licence makes it easy to maintain, scale, renew and you can plan your costs 10 years in advance.
