Jamf Pro Primary Use Case

Pete C - PeerSpot reviewer
Senior Infrastructure Engineer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois

Jamf Pro enables us to centrally manage nearly 1,000 Macs across multiple offices and US states, from optional installs that end users can implement at their own convenience, to mandatory applications and settings that must be enforced in a highly regulated industry.

Jamf Pro is a critical part of our overall security posture at the OS and application levels, by identifying, remediating, and (when necessary) remotely locking problematic devices.

Jamf Pro assists our support teams with managing major OS upgrades, from testing to production deployment, and restricting a new OS or update until validation and approval.

As they are using often Apple Macs, we have the choice of managing them by hand or implementing a client management system for macOS devices. As we won't handle 150 Macs by hand, we were checking the market for a solution that fits our needs.

We have chosen Jamf Pro due to the fact that they are the leader in managing Apple devices and there is a big and strong Jamf Nation Community which is very helpful if you have any questions or need help finding a solution.

I use it in a K-12 school environment with 1:1 iPads in K-5 and Shared iPads in Upper School. The staff uses MacBook devices and there are also iMacs for student use. In this set-up, we cater to users from 4/5 years old to Staff with 30+ years of service with ease.

Whether we need app-like icons (web clips) on iPad devices or complex printer solutions on Mac devices, users simply open Self Service, and, with a single click, the magic happens. For the youngest users, everything gets pushed silently overnight and sings and dances in the morning.

We use it for our iPads and for all our Macs for our university. We use it for the installs. We're trying to get that automated, and our end goal is that it's zero-touch or as close to zero-touch as possible. We're working our way so that we configure it, and it will set up all the applications needed for the specific user. If they need other ones, they'll be in self-service, or we'll figure something out based on the frequency of the specific app and how many people need it. If it's a one-off or if it's something that a department needs, we can make adjustments based on that.

We have a private cloud deployment, and the cloud provider is Jamf.

Jamf Pro is an Apple device management solution. This software will allow you to manage and deploy small and extremely large Apple device deployments for any size company.

Jamf Pro will give you full management control available by Apple for Macs, iPads, and Apple TVs. With this software, you will be able to ensure devices are secure, compliant, and set for your users in any environment.

Best of all, this can be done remotely and without the need for much user interaction. Without this product, I would not be able to support the over 7,000 apple devices I have spread across 11 different sites.

We use the solution to be able to manage devices remotely, especially now since our environment is 1:1.

Each student has their own iPad or MacBook if they are in 8th grade or above.  Each teacher also has their own MacBook Pro and iPad.

Jamf Pro helps us easily configure devices and deploy them without having to do so much manual setup. We also use Jamf to push out apps that teachers or students need, as well as send software updates to those devices.

Jamf Connect also works with Jamf Pro to bridge the gap of syncing your local Mac password with your IDP password, so we use Jamf to do this rather than binding our machines to Microsoft AD.

Jamf is the best available MDM solution for Apple devices and there is no comparison in the market.

I have been using Jamf services for years and am happy to say that Jamf welcomes more and more capability to its product line.

There is also zero-day support to all new Apple OS.

I would recommend Jamf to you if you need solutions for software delivery, hardware and software inventory and its usage, cloud-based services, role-based administration and audit reports, cross-platform support, its ease of use, simplification, automation, integration and patch management

We would also take some time to look at additional product cycles around Jamf Pro, including Jamf Connect and Jamf Protect. Jamf Connect is a cloud-based solution that streamlines Mac authentication and identity management. Jamf Protect is an endpoint protection solution built exclusively for Mac devices.

We also use it to manage the kiosk we have set up when we have guests. We have also implemented a BYOD policy where we have users sign up with Jamf and it allows us to push apps from our business to their phones. It's nice. Jamf helps us to manage Macs remotely via an intuitive dashboard.

Managing macOS can get difficult sometimes without the help of an MDM. With Jamf, I have control of the fleet with a few clicks.

Being able to update third-party applications without the need for other external tools is another plus.

With minor modifications, we were able to have an almost zero-touch deployment. This way, we know that all Macs will always have the same configurations.

We are also working on the self-service app, which has a lot of potential.

We manage about 2,300 macs in our enterprise. Most of the devices are used by developers.

Right now, we manage only basics in our mac fleet. Like having a compliant mac, get the VPN Anti Virus, Firewall NoMAD, and other basic software on it. Also, users have the option to get additional software via self-service. So, when a user gets a device from us, it is pretty "vanilla" and they can customize the device themself.

Additionally, we configure the device for printing and proxy usage.

The primary web application is responsible for syncing data from the configured Apple School Manager instance and Jamf Pro. This includes recurring scheduled syncs, as well as manually initiated syncs performed while logged in to a secondary web application.

This monitor collects information about devices that have been added to Automated Device Enrolment (formerly DEP) portals and assigned to the Jamf Pro MDM server. It is run by the primary web application. Any manually initiated refreshes are performed by the web application the user is logged in to.

We have a mixed Windows/Mac environment, and needed a good MDM solution to efficiently handle the Mac side. We use Jamf Pro to image and deploy new systems utilizing DEP and pre-stage enrollment. We also push out policies and configurations to install software and settings for specific users that are role-based. With Jamf Pro, we're able to work fully remote as an IT team, which is something that would have been very difficult prior to its implementation. Luckily we installed the software before Covid!

We manage our Macs entirely with this solution and have it tied to our directory. Users, apps, and settings are all managed in this tool.

We create accounts at first start, with their directory credentials. It encrypts the disk, it reports back stats and installs the most important apps for them. It also saves time with setting up mail, having optional apps in self-service, etc.

With our setup, it's a complete tool for managing our fleet of Macs and iPhones. It saves time, keeps us secure, and is easy to use.

We use this solution for device management across a large school.

MDM solutions. We have over two hundred staff and fifteen-hundred students. Jamf Pro allows us to manage all devices across the school remotely and push out any policies, software updates, and applications as needed. We can do all this from the comfort of the IT office, allowing us to focus more on the education around technology, rather than keeping the technology running itself.
