What is our primary use case?

There are many use cases for Actifio. It is most popular for the test data management feature in the solution, and the capabilities for instant backup and recovery.

Pros and Cons

  • This product has unique capabilities that lead the product category in test data management, cloning and recovery.
  • While the product does support various databases, the company needs to make more of an effort to support N-minus-one compatibility.

What other advice do I have?

The way Actifio is shaping up is really good, especially in the way they are opening new avenues for data management — like in terms of test data management, database cloning, and the capability of duplicating databases instantly. Also, it is one of the only solutions which is used by SAP for their own S/4HANA test data management. This one product enables a lot of very good solutions for backup of SAP S/4HANA either on to my systems and appliance or on the cloud. There are these advantages and quite a few other advantages this solution encompasses. On a scale from one to ten where one is the… more »

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is as a backup solution. We also use Cohesity for cloud enabling and seconday storage. With respect to backup, our environment is based on virtual and physical machines, and Cohesity fits great. The virtual machines are based on VMware 6.5/Nutanix solution with vCenter. Cohesity can handle up to 2,000 virtual machines with a classic schdule of one backup per day. CBT works great so it is an incremental forever solution. For our physical system, we use agents for AIX, Windows from 2003 to 2016, SUSE, and RHEL. The application backups handle SAP, SAP HANA, Oracle, and SQL… more »

Pros and Cons

  • After linking a cloud subscription, like Azure for example (AWS and Google are also supported), you can "spin" a VM onto the cloud from any backup snapshot.
  • The GUI is in need of improvement.

Cost and Licensing Advice

  • Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate.

What other advice do I have?

Cohesity can replicate backups to a secondary cluster (also virtual edition).

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and Veritas NetBackup is one of the backup and recovery products that we resell to our clients.

Pros and Cons

  • NetBackup is very easy for end-users.
  • The biggest problem with NetBackup is licensing.

Cost and Licensing Advice

  • Licensing fees are charged based on the number of CPU cores.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, NetBackup is a good product and the only problem is the licensing module. We would really like to have socket-based licensing. I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

What is our primary use case?

We are using Commvault to protect some of our workloads in the public cloud. We are using it in AWS SAM and Office 365.

Pros and Cons

  • Scalability, as well as stability, are a couple of important parts of this solution.
  • This product is overly complex to operate and run.

Cost and Licensing Advice

  • One of the issues with backup vendors is that they overprice, or overvalue their products.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, this is a good product and very capable. That said, my advice for anybody who is considering it is to make sure that it fits your purpose. If you can make do with a simpler product then choose a simpler product. I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

What is our primary use case?

I was hired as a solution architect and implementation specialist for this solution. We are maintaining this solution for a customer in Hamburg, Germany. I am working with an SAP on Oracle solution at the moment. Our customers use this solution for backup and disaster recovery. The usual deployment model for this solution is on-premise.

Pros and Cons

  • The most valuable features for us at the moment are NFS, file system backup, and IP backup.
  • We are looking forward to better stability in future versions.

What other advice do I have?

When it comes to choosing this solution, it depends on the environment and the scenarios that you're focused on. There are many advantages with EMC NetWorker compared to other disaster recovery solutions, but the software is lacking in some areas that other vendors focus on. It really depends on what you want to get from the solution. I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
