The total ranking of a product, represented by the bar length, is based on a weighted aggregate score. The score is calculated as follows: The product with the highest count in each area gets the highest available score. (20 points for Reviews; 16 points for Views, Comparisons, and Followers.) Every other product gets assigned points based on its total in proportion to the #1 product in that area. For example, if a product has 80% of the number of reviews compared to the product with the most reviews then the product's score for reviews would be 20% (weighting factor) * 80% = 16. For Average Rating, the maximum score is 32 points awarded linearly based on our rating scale of 1-10. If a product has fewer than ten reviews, the point contribution for Average Rating is reduced (one-third reduction in points for products with 5-9 reviews; two-thirds reduction for products with fewer than five reviews). Reviews that are more than 24 months old, as well as those written by resellers, are completely excluded from the ranking algorithm.

What is most valuable?

One of the biggest features is the global deduplication of our data sets. AWE have deployed a disk-to-disk-to-cloud solution for our on-premise backups. The capacity savings of this approach lead to significant cost savings on the long term... more»

How has it helped my organization?

We have changed out approach to our ROBO backup solution. Utilising Commvault we can now automate the decommissioning of our remote project sites and convert these on-premise backups into Azure hosted VMs. This not only brings the service... more»

What needs improvement?

The new HTML 5 based management portals are very nice, but do not yet have all of the features of the Java based client. I’d like to see all of the features move over to HTML 5 so that we do not have to use Java ideally.

What is most valuable?

* There are many features that I value Commvault for, but to name only a few: * Wide support for different OSS and applications. You can backup almost anything with Commvault. * Policy-based configuration, which allows for easily configurable policies for even larger environments. * Central administration: Management and deployment are done from one... more»

What needs improvement?

Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models.

What do you think of Commvault?

Improvements to My Organization We have covered all our important applications by backup policy and ensure that application owners are aware, how data is backed up and what RPO is expected, as well as cost of such backup implementation. • Valuable Features A wide range of application-specific agents with very flexible options related to backup, recovery and data management. Also, pretty we  • Room for Improvement Mostly controls, visibility, cost allocation. Other general features like backup protection (via multiple copies), storage optimization (like compression/deduplication, tape refresh etc.) were in place before we switched to CommVault. • Stability Issues Previously, with versions 8 and 9 yes. But starting from version 10 there were no major issues. •...

What do you think of Guidance Software EnCase?

Valuable Features Image creation and image analysis in one program, basically for ease of use. All-in-one solutions tend to outperform split system solutions. • Improvements to My Organization It has allowed me to teach forensics in an environment which is very much analogous to the real world. • Room for Improvement It could be more geared towards students. I would add a full-featured student version that can be integrated into labs that the students can work with. (This can be on a monthly fee plan.) • Use of Solution On and off for nine years in educational surroundings. I have only used the newer version (8.5) in classes. • Stability Issues With 6.10, there are some issues, but these have been corrected. With 8.5, which I have used a few times, I have not seen...

What do you think of Commvault?

Improvements to My Organization Backups happen over night instead of 3 days. Storage for backups has been reduced by 60%. • Valuable Features The most valuable feature is the ability to backup over the dedicated Fiber Channel directly from SAN. There's no impact to the network or users. • Room for Improvement Bare-metal restore needs some work. It's not intuitive and seems to have been an afterthought. • Stability Issues We've had no issues with stability. • Scalability Issues As we have used and scaled out the product SQL integration with the companies automated scripts proved to be a challenge. The Work Flow feature is your only solution and therefor you end up with a mix of scripts then relying on the products work flow to run and return expected results...

How has it helped my organization?

Since our corporation is big, it was really difficult to back up specific data types, manage admin roles, have true visibility of where my data was stored and whether it was effectively being backed up. Now, I know where my backup data is. I... more»

Reduce the complexity for better understanding of the reports. There are a lot of variables in which you can get confused while elaborating on reports.

What is most valuable?

Most of the features of Encase are very user-friendly. Simultaneously, we can process many search operations: Multiple sorting and regular expression search are a couple of those features.

How has it helped my organization?

I had been using Encase as a digital forensicator professional for over a decade. I have used this to solve many cases. It is useful for an initial assessment as well as to crack cases. It is user-friendly. Currently, I am in the education... more»

What needs improvement?

I suggest that if the mobile phone acquisition is embedded in the Encase law enforcement version, it would be very useful. As of now, only a few mobile phones, especially the smart phones, have the acquisition embedded.

What is most valuable?

I like the processing feature on the product because it does everything at once, i.e, indexing, recovery, keyword searches, etc.

How has it helped my organization?

It speeds up the process, so I can meet my deadlines. At first, I was using Encase 6, thereby running recovery and processing separate.

What needs improvement?

I failed to index Microsoft Exchange Server Emails (.EDB). I think an improvement could be to support all types of email extensions and add more features on mobile data extractions (smartphones and iPhones). There are still some challenges... more»

What is most valuable?

Backup and archive with a single window, with a single backup job. You only need to type "c".

How has it helped my organization?

Earlier, the legacy was you needed to backup and, when you needed to do an archive, you needed to do an archive job again. With Commvault it is a single job, which does both backup and archive, so it does not touch the data twice.

What needs improvement?

Actually Commvault is good software. I just wanted to compare the features, which are there in EMC NetWorker, which are not available in Commvault. We have things using Networker, I just wanted to see what is the advantage over Commvault.

What do you think of AccessData FTK?

Valuable Features It can analyse various types of mobile phone forensic images. The ease of use of the product. • Improvements to My Organization It is our main analysis software. • Room for Improvement Link files and external devices are lacking. We use other software in conjunction with FTK to conduct these type of investigations. • Use of Solution More than five years. • Stability Issues Sometimes, but not very often. • Scalability Issues No issues. • Customer Service and Technical Support Technical support is good. • Previous Solutions We used EnCase years ago. We switched because FTK met our requirements. • Initial Setup The setup is straightforward as long as you read the notes on the install. • Pricing, Setup Cost and Licensing It is...

What do you think of Commvault?

Improvements to My Organization Let's take the example of 5TB file data. Out of 5 TB, around 3 TB data is non-usable (Achievable). With Commvault, we run a single job as a one-pass job, it will run backup and archive in a single job, no need to run two jobs for backup and archive them differently. It saves my backup window. • Valuable Features One-Pass (Archive) DataBase backup (Online Backup and Granular level restore), VM backup and restore. • Room for Improvement Endpoint backup. • Stability Issues No. • Scalability Issues No. • Customer Service and Technical Support Good, a nine out of 10. • Previous Solutions No. • Initial Setup Straightforward, it takes 30-40 min to setup the server. • Pricing, Setup Cost and Licensing New licensing is...

What do you think of Guidance Software EnCase?

Improvements to My Organization The tool improves the results of data recovery cases. • Valuable Features Data Recovery: Its ability to repair damaged partitions and uncover hidden partitions from within the tool, and allow further analysis. • Room for Improvement Ease of use and learning curve need improvement. • Use of Solution One to three years. • Stability Issues We encountered stability issues just as one encounters with all commercially available forensic tools. • Initial Setup The initial setup was very straightforward. • Other Solutions Considered We use many other forensics tools like AccessData FTK, Magnet Axiom, and X-Ways. • Other Advice Consider this tool if you do a lot of data recovery and plan to implement EnCase Endpoint.
