Low cost storage system that has good support

What is our primary use case?

We used Scality during the capacity extension.

Pros and Cons

  • "I think it's the economic factor. This solution has the lowest cost for storage systems."
  • "When we used this solution in 2015, it was not scalable at all. I don't know if they have improved on that, but at the time, scalability was just horrible."

What other advice do I have?

I think I would recommend Scality but there is another solution that I'm going to dig into more, which is OpenIO. Right now for new projects, I don't know yet if I'm going to recommend Scality or OpenIO. Most probably OpenIO, but it's not necessarily based on technical features. It's because we have a commercial agreement with OpenIO. I would rate this solution as eight out of ten.

Good deduplication, compression features, and replication

What is our primary use case?

We've implemented this solution for our customer, who is in the sales sector. It's clustered and mapped to one of the blades. We use the solution for a Hyper-V environment and all of our other virtual machines are deployed inside this solution.

Pros and Cons

  • "All of the administrative tasks are easy and everything is centralized."
  • "In our country, Qatar, most of the industry isn't using too much HP. StoreVirtual doesn't move fast. It's not a popular product."

What other advice do I have?

StoreVirtual is mostly a mid-range to enterprise-level storage solution. In terms of performance, it's quite good. However, now we have some other products which are even better than HP itself. It's still a good solution. It's just a more competitive landscape. I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. If it had virtualizations and better scalability, I would rank it higher.
