The finance part that people were doing was not too difficult. It was straightforward. However, when we implemented it in the public sector, it was a bit complex because of the disparities in the data structures and the maturity of the customer. They had different ERPs. So, it was a bit tough, but they appreciated it. We are a Commonwealth country. So, whatever works in India would work in any Commonwealth country. We have an education department here, and there are two categories: higher education and technical education. Based on merit and a lot of other parameters, such as caste, people have to be given subsidies, grants, and aid, which change with the political system. A new leader can announce that he wants to give laptops to all standard 12 students who have scored 90% marks. So, all such rules can be built very quickly. The SLA is for about five working days. We have to complete a new request in five working days. Most of the customers here want parallel development. Normally, we have six to eight teams working. Generally, we give a new Pega solution in about 100 days. After a solution is rolled out, we have a separate team with about 10 people, and they cater to 10 and 15 customers.

The setup is also good. It also provides the cloud, so it's not an issue from that perspective. I did not use it very extensively, however, they do have a cloud, so it's fine in terms of implementation.

Pega BPM is easy to set up, particularly its cloud version, because Pega will help you do all the setup. Pega also provides a JAR file that you can import to your database, and then once the connection is established, you can start using Pega BPM, so the setup is easy.

Infrastructure setup is different when you do it on-premises. Setting up Pega BPM on the cloud is easier.

While it is not too complex to set up, you do need to understand the solution and know the rules.

We have people in place just to set up the pipeline and everything. The Pega team has to work with the system team to set up everything and maybe one or two people are involved over there. From the core setup perspective, it's the role of a developer who has to do it. There's typically a lead and two or three developers that handle the setup and validate things once deployed.

Setting up Pega BPM was very easy for the team. Deploying the solution is so much faster and takes up a lesser amount of time than other solutions. For example, if a competitor takes a month to completely deploy, Pega BPM deployment will be completed within two weeks, or almost half a month.

I would rate the setup for Pega BPM four out of five.

The initial setup is never straightforward. It's always complex. Organizations deploying the solution will need a Pega admin and experts. It's not like anybody can just walk in and install it onto a PC. It needs a lot more performance concentrations and much more integration considerations. Therefore, it's a little complex.

In terms of deployment times, on-premise, it takes a little more time, and I would say it would take maybe about a month. However, now, cloud implementations are pretty quick and go much faster.

In terms of maintenance, we do need someone from the company to help us manage the solution.

The initial setup takes time. You have to gather people with the right skills. If you have that then it won't take that much time at all. Basically, the main selling point of Pega is it can reduce your entire timeline drastically. The constraint is you need to have the right kind of people.

Pega is a huge tool, and honestly speaking, nowadays, there are a lot of sections in Pega where there is no single user who knows the entire feature set. It's a big and complicated product. You need to have the right blend of team members to set up, to have an easy initial setup. In those instances, it might take six to eight weeks. After that, I have seen people delivering some base prototypes and a walking model in a few weeks.

The initial setup is complex.

When you are doing a project in Pega, it is more complex than the processes that you are normally going to implement. When the product is complex to learn it's more complex to develop.

The deployment time is not too much. It is about the same as with Appian when you have the configuration down, no more than one or two hours.

Normally when we use Pega we are thinking about a more global application that you can use in different countries or for different areas.

There are two options. If you are doing on-premise, it's a little complicated because you need an admin-type person who can help with the installation. But if it is cloud-based, then it is easy. It's all done in the Pega cloud and you just have to get the user ID and password and you are in business.

It depends on which option the customer goes for. It is definitely complicated if it's on-premise.

If you choose Pega BPM on the cloud, the initial setup will take care of the infrastructure. You will need to spend some time to identify the suitable infrastructure. Even after implementation, there is a certain amount of upfront work required in terms of design and foundation. Once this is complete, everything else is smooth.

Deployment can take a few days to get on board with your foundation as it is very tedious.

My impression is that the initial setup process has to be followed via documentation. It's becoming a little bit less complicated, but it is still not easy for an inexperienced user to kickstart and deploy. The deployment an hour and a half at most. It can be deployed by one person.

I would rate this process a six, on a scale from one to 10, with one being the worst and 10 being the best.

Pega will also provide you with good training materials in the Pega Express Portal, which is helpful for teams who are planning for new developments. That way, they can learn easily and understand everything.

The initial setup of Pega BPM is neither easy nor complex, so it falls somewhere in the middle. Pega has provided options for automation for the setup phase, but still, its setup phase is not as direct as some of the other tools in the market.

Pega BPM has set a path for its setup phase, wherein you need to go ahead with Helm chart automation since Pega is a very wide solution, and infrastructures can differ for different companies. Pega doesn't offer something specific, like Terraform. In other technologies, the product gets installed with one click or just a few clicks, but with Pega, a person has to work a lot on the infrastructure part as well.

The solution is deployed on the cloud and on-premises. My company provides the solution on Pega Cloud, technology-specific clouds, client-specific clouds, or on-premises.

The complete implementation process for Pega BPM would take a minimum of two to three days, prioritizing the infrastructure first and then the product.

Two people, one from the infrastructure end and one from the product end, which is the technical support person from Pega, would be needed to complete the deployment of the product. There is also the need to have Pega's partner who does the installation, making him or her the third person involved in the deployment.

The version for private use on your workstation is easy to install. However, if you want to prepare a platform, it is not easy. All good solutions are not easy to install and tend to be complex and because of this, I would not say this solution is any more complex than any other good solution.

Once we got it set up, I would say we were pretty stable. Once done correctly and set up properly, it should be more stable than an RPA solution, in my opinion.

I would rate the initial setup a four out of five.

Maintenance is dependent on the size of the program or application. You would need at least two people. However, the number of people would vary depending on the size of the application and the program.

The initial setup wasn't complex, but you have to define your class structure and architecture properly. Deployment took around a month. Also, Pega says BPM is low-code/no-code, but that's not true - you need intervention as you can't design the application without some knowledge about it.

The initial setup is quite complex. It requires a lot of time and its not something that you can just do quickly. Pega is a very complete and structured product that needs to be configured according to the organizational structure.

Considerations have to be made with respect to managing data and integrating with their tools. In many ways, it is a Plug and Play tool, but it will require some time.

We are working in Agile. So there is a sprint of two weeks. After each and every sprint we have to be looking forward to the after-sprint plans. So the solution has been deployed after each and every sprint to the queue and on the decided date, to the production.

If it is a support project, we use a team of six people over a period of one year.

The initial setup is quite simple. How long deployment takes depends on what you want to implement. It can be as little as 50 minutes if it's something very easy. It's like moving bricks. You are not typing any code, rather you are creating processes. When you're developing it, the length of time needed depends on how many bricks or processes you have to move, or create, so to speak.

In terms of how many people you need to maintain the solution, It depends on what type of support was chosen. It can be your own maintenance, or it can be maintenance from other suppliers or the vendor. It also depends on the number of applications you have as well.

The Pega BPM is designed in a manner which allows for the product to be implemented by experts and then for control to be handed over to the business users. If the business users are not prepared, the flexibility and ease of use for the business users can't be guaranteed. If the Pega platform is implemented in the right manner, the organization needs to integrate the right skills, the right implementation, and best business practices.

Unlike other software solutions, Pega is not about having a whole army of developers working to put a solution together. Once the core platform is set, the application can be taken further with even junior developers implementing more controls.

The resources involved in the implementation actually support the organization and the product when implemented well.
