What is most valuable?

The reliability of Data Domain was the most useful feature to me. Every piece of data is recorded multiple times in several devices in a cluster. If any hardware failure occurs, it does not impact the… more»

How has it helped my organization?

This product improved our system of backup by reducing the time and effort required to manage the system.

What needs improvement?

Spanning the time I worked with EMC Data Domain, I had no issues that suggested to me that it needed improvement. It was working fine, and anything I wanted to do with Data Domain, I could do it. So I… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

One thing that anyone considering this solution has to realize is that it is expensive. It is expensive for a reason, but it is expensive.

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

Before using Data Domain, I was using a tape library. It was IBM Tape Library with LTO (Linear Tape-Open). We switched to EMC Data Domain because of the speed. Backing up data to a tape library is… more»

What other advice do I have?

Anyone considering using this solution will first need to make a proper assessment of their need for the data storage because this is misleading. Sometimes managers just make a simple assumption that… more»

What is most valuable?

For traditional setups, you need to have one separate media server plus you need maybe a data domain or some kind of storage. If you use the NetBackup Appliance you do not need to have separate media… more»

What needs improvement?

We've only been using the solution for one year, and since we've installed it, it's been running fine, so I don't have any complaints about it so far. It could be improved if it was easier to run some… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I don't know anything specific in regards to pricing, but I do have friends that say there's an IBM solution that's less expensive than NetBackup.

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

We previously used EMC Data Domain. We switched because we required an additional media server, and were using new hardware which was isolated for media server purposes. Since this solution could also… more»

What other advice do I have?

If you are using NetBackup software on the same appliance you can expect good performance. In terms of the solution, you may need to log cases with different vendors if you have a different storage… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We only ever made an evaluation between EMC Data Domain, our previous solution, and NetBackup.

What is most valuable?

It was very simple to deploy the solution to the client that wanted to backup.

What needs improvement?

It was challenging to back up our Exchange database, which is one of the reasons we did not continue using this solution. It was very tough, and a case of having to contact the Microsoft Partner Network. Technical support needs to be improved. We could not integrate this solution with our tape… more»

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

We were not able to back up the Exchange database with this solution. In the end, we had to discontinue using it. We switched to EMC Data Domain, and the cost was one of the factors that influenced our decision.

What other advice do I have?

This is a solution that I recommend. It is a good product. It's stable, it is easy to deploy, and the visibility of the backup and restore is good. If I had my way then we would be using this solution for other applications and we would be running them side-by-side as a comparison. I would rate this… more»

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of this solution are deduplication and compression. This is a user-friendly solution.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see an emphasis placed on making data deduplication and compression more powerful.

What other advice do I have?

HPE does not have a backup solution because they sold it to Micro Focus. It would be better if they had all of the components including the server, storage, and backup. I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

The solution that we suggest to our customers depends on their infrastructure. For example, if they have HP infrastructure then we propose HPE StoreOnce, but if they have a Dell Infrastructure then we might propose Dell EMC Data Domain. Normally, if they have a Microsoft Infrastructure then we… more»
