What is most valuable?

Live monitoring of what is happening inside and with the interfaces, either ingress or egress - this is a good feature of the device. Secondly, most people use enterprise applications remotely, and… more»

How has it helped my organization?

I'm a network and cyber security consultant. This is not only for my offices, I have deployed it for many large enterprises where customers are remotely accessing their applications. We can define… more»

What needs improvement?

It's a little bit complex in terms of handling. If you implement a change, there is a specific point where you have to commit it. It's not like you just push a button and it's always committed. If you… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing and licensing are fine. It's worth the value because if I buy any other product, every four years I have to replace my hardware. But with Barracuda I get a free hardware upgrade. Today I'm… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Cisco, Fortinet, Check Point, Palo Alto, Sophos Cyberoam, Dell SonicWall, and Juniper (both SRX and NetScreen). One of the reasons I switched to Barracuda is that I was looking for… more»

What other advice do I have?

When I initially started using it I was just an end-user, a technical consultant. And one of my customers said to me, "I want these and these features." I searched a number of products with respect to… more»

What is most valuable?

The SSL VPNs are the most valuable feature for me. I have a lot of systems out of the head office that need to connect to the local networks, and they all connect via the Sophos VPN client.

How has it helped my organization?

It streamlines the process of creating VPN access for users. Because of the AD integration, it makes it very easy to manage these users from different locations from a central source. It also helps us… more»

What needs improvement?

The initial set up process can be a little tricky, especially when you are registering with Sophos and you have a poor internet connection. Setup is not necessarily complex, but it's not trouble-free… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We are paying about $1,500 yearly for the Enterprise Plus. As far as I know, there aren't costs above this standard fee.

What other advice do I have?

We use the on-premises deployment model. We definitely plan to increase the usage and also add high variability too. Right now, it is the main internet gateway and firewall for my network. We're using… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated Cisco ASA as well as the FortiGate before ultimately choosing Sophos. I chose Sophos over FortiGate because I'd already had experience with Cyberoam and it was a fairly similar migration… more»

What is most valuable?

The filtering was very good.

What needs improvement?

The licensing could be improved. It restricted us to maybe 55 connections per license, so anything less than 55 VPN connections. But when you grow and have 100 clients coming in, you have to upgrade. I'd prefer to get something which is a… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I started with 46 users, and clients were growing to 59 and heading on to 60. That's when I suffered limitations with their licensing. We had to go back and forth with the supplier in this area. It didn't work out well for me or the… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Cyberoam, and then we changed to Sophos. We had an appliance for Sophos, and then because we were moving to a bigger setup, we moved to Check Point. We've since moved to FortiGate. That's the solution we have now.

What other advice do I have?

We've actually stopped using it. We switched to FortiGate because we had side to side VPNs that were are actually bringing issues with the UTM itself, so we had to swap it over. I would rate the overall solution a six out of 10. There's… more»

What is most valuable?

The solution has similar attributes to other competitors. The encryption detection is good. In terms of administration, it's perfect.

What needs improvement?

The encryption detection could be improved. In my opinion, I think Sophos has better encryption detection than this solution. The security of the solution could be better. The interface needs to be… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

At this time, I'm unsure of what the costs related to the solution are. It's my understanding that support is part of the OEM fee and you do have to pay that yearly. However, it does depend on the… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've used Sophos in the past. There are some technical issues with Sophos, at least on the older version, but with XG they kind-of did an upgrade. The interface of Sophos is great. It makes it easy to… more»

What other advice do I have?

We used to be on the cloud, but we phased it out more than a year ago. I'd recommend the solution. It's one of the best on the market. It's great for financial services institutions. Security is… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did look at Barracuda, but we decided against them because it gets a bit too technical. Also, unlike Sophos, for example, you can't pick the license you want and instead have to buy a package that… more»

What is most valuable?

Unfortunately in Cisco, only the hardware was good. As for the features and services it was less than the others. Having all of the features means higher specs of hardware… more»

How has it helped my organization?

Cisco NGFW had the needs that were required by us but unfortunately, was very primitive. There was no added value and every feature requires license thus extra HIDDEN cost… more»

What needs improvement?

In NGFW, Cisco should be aligned with the new technology and inspection intelligence because Cisco is far behind in this pipeline. Nowadays IoT, Big Data, AI, Robotics… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Always look for the history of the products and their evolution, as this will reflect their prices. As for the licenses, be smart and choose the ones you are going to use… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I was using a different solution prior to this one. I shifted because I found that it can heal my pain at least partially. By the end, it did the job and more.

What other advice do I have?

Think before you buy, as this solution can be your success or failure. Always work with professionals and not promoters.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Whenever I go for a new solution, I test many leaders "NOT RELYING ON GARTNER", yet going for sites that are related to technical evaluations and real case studies. The… more»
