I rate Oracle E-Business Suite eight out of 10. I believe going to the cloud is much easier and faster. I advise people not to make a lot of changes initially. Implement it the way it is in the first round so you can leverage the benefits immediately instead of adding a lot of customization in the Oracle ERP.

I would rate this solution 9 out of 10.

My suggestion would be to look at what you're currently using, what your requirements are, how those requirements can be met, from what models or offerings you should be going for, and what is the end result you want to achieve by implementing a half a million dollar product. Are you okay with your return on your investment? Those are some of the questions you should be asking yourself.

We are not using the latest version of the solution. We are planning to change the product. We are researching ERPs from SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft. We decided to use Oracle ten years ago. We are more interested in Microsoft Dynamics because we use Microsoft products like Microsoft 365 and Teams.

Currently, we are upgrading the software. We contacted Oracle to upgrade the tool. I would recommend the solution to others, but we faced some issues. We couldn't upgrade to the latest version. We don't have the latest version of the database or application.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

I'm working with this solution on behalf of an organization.

We're using version 11 right now, and we're about to update to 12.2.8.

This is a good product. If you have a good start, then you can easily implement the solution. An Azure study is the most important thing, however.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give this solution a rating of seven.

Oracle E-Business Suite is not for small businesses as, over a period of time, you will incur a huge cost when it comes to hosting. It's not just about application licensing, there is also hosting infrastructure, etc. It's not the functionality that's the problem for small entities, it's the overall cost. Smaller companies should go for something like AppDynamics, SAP Business, or NetSuite.

Oracle is best suited for large organizations — from medium to large. It's a great solution for companies who grow quickly and need the best scalability possible. Unless you have a minimum user base of 3,000, you shouldn't be using Oracle.

Oracle is for medium to large-sized companies that are projected to grow in one or two years. Otherwise, it will become a pain point for you because the IT expenses will shoot through the roof. As a product, as a functionality, if you check this particular prerequisite, I would definitely recommend it.

Small and medium enterprises do not need the solution. Big companies might want to think about whether to use the solution because there are other options like SAP and Microsoft.

The solution offers Oracle Cloud but it operates on the same concept. Transferring or dealing with data is very old fashioned. Each module has a different database and you need to transfer data from AB to GL to run reports, create recurring reports, or create recurring processes. This is a very bad setup. Even in the cloud, you have to post entries in payroll or AP and transfer the journal to the GL to see live or trial balances. There are no automatic dashboards or live reports.

The solution is rated a four out of ten.

I'm using the latest version of Oracle E-Business Suite.

Two or three people can maintain Oracle E-Business Suite for a small organization. Still, for a vast implementation, for example, within my organization, about twenty-five to thirty people handle the maintenance of the solution.

Around two thousand to three thousand people use Oracle E-Business Suite within the organization.

All departments use the solution, whether Presales, Sales, Finance, Plant Maintenance, HR, Compensation, Payroll, etc.

I recommend Oracle E-Business Suite, but since the newest technology is now on the cloud, I wonder if people would be interested in an on-premise solution.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten because the GUI needs improvement. I would give Oracle E-Business Suite a nine or ten if its GUI were improved.

My company is simply an Oracle customer.

I'm using the latest version of Oracle E-Business Suite.

Around seven hundred people use Oracle E-Business Suite within my company. The solution doesn't require a lot of maintenance, but its maintenance has been outsourced to a third-party.

I'm not an Oracle E-Business Suite expert, and everyone has specific requirements, but what I would tell others who want to start using the solution is that it would be ideal if the user can switch to a subscription-based product because the implementation becomes faster and the user experience is much better. Unfortunately, in India, it's so complicated in terms of processes and procedures, so mostly the market fights over on-premise solutions which is not the trend globally, and it's an issue here in India.

My rating for Oracle E-Business Suite is seven out of ten.

I'm an end-user.

Whether or not I would recommend the solution to others depends on the company and the automation they need. Oracle works well, however, it's not for every organization. A very common practice is to use SAP. If a solution doesn't solve any value for your business, it's not worth putting it in.

I'd rate the solution five out of ten. It's helpful in some ways yet lacking in others. For example, it can do procurement, it can do sales, and it can do financial reporting, however, it cannot do my warehouse or transportation management. It cannot do my planning bit. It can't do my production or manufacturing. There's a lot missing.

This is definitely one of the more robust on-premise solutions. Given the sensitive nature of ERP financial information, there will always be concerns in taking such software to the cloud, which is why we still see a future for this software.

It was recently announced that there will be at least one more version of Oracle EBS which will come out to satisfy customer demands.

We have a partnership. We do develop products together with Oracle.

The version we are using is about two or three years old. It's not the latest.

If you do work in advance and re-engineer the process really, even E-Business Suite implementation is faster with a process engineer. Don't allow too much creativity and too many custom requirements as most of the time the requirements are standard. People in the job want to do more things than they should. Re-look at the processes before mapping. That exercise should be done in parallel to implementation.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten.

The advice that I would give to others who want to start using this product is that, in this day and age, you need to first evaluate different products. At the very least you would want to compare the E-Business Suite with the other Oracle cloud products.

The area of service planning was neither very difficult nor very easy.

Oracle E-Business Suite has impacted our business process from the standpoint of KPIs.

The features of the product were not useful for me since they were mostly used to help my customers.

The tool's integration capabilities were standard in nature since the product is deployed on an on-premises model.

The tool was integrated with a lot of other legacy solutions and Oracle Siebel CRM because it was on an on-premises deployment model, but not everything was as fast as things are on the cloud, so there was the need to have multiple devices in our infrastructure.

The tool has had an impact on industry-specific solutions in our company's customers' operations since it gives customers autonomy over third-party logistics and service providers. The tool also helps to reduce the problems in the supply chain management.

I recommend the tool to enterprise-sized businesses. The problem with Oracle is that it comes with everything and may contain certain modules that customers don't need. With Oracle products, since you get a lot of features, the prices are pushed up. The tool can only be used by those who start off as a reseller and want to become a manufacturer in the future since it helps to manage both workloads.

Considering that it is one of the best tools I have worked with, I rate the tool an eight out of ten.

My recommendation is to not customize E-Business Suite. The upgrades are complicated and when you go from version to version, it's not a good thing. You have to spend a lot of money so if you're already doing that you might as well go for a product that satisfies your requirements. If an organization has the opportunity to go to the cloud, then it's worth doing. It's pay-as-you-go, you're free from DBAs and a lot of complicated processes, and everything is taken care of in the cloud,

I rate this solution eight out of 10.

Oracle E-Business Suite is reasonably good. It offers a licensing model, which offers long-term cost advantages compared to the cloud-based license provided by SAP. As an end user, my role was very limited. In 2011, when we implemented SAP, I was heavily involved because I was heading operations and maintenance. We had inventory management, budgeting, and everything integrated seamlessly from that perspective.

For someone who has never used Oracle, I would tell them that it's not a user-friendly application, so it takes time to get your head around it. On top of that, Oracle is mostly done in Linux and Unix which is completely command-based so from an administration perspective, it's helpful to have some experience and knowledge because it's not a walk in the park.

Landscapes change and so do the products and services. With that perspective in mind, I would say that although Oracle is a very robust technology and a leader in certain areas, it takes time to adapt to it. Other technologies are far easier to implement but perhaps the complexity makes the job more secure and challenging.

I would rate this solution a seven out of 10.

I have been working with Oracle E-Business Suite for the past 10 to 12 years. There are always some bugs and missing patches, so I would rate it a nine out of ten.  Also, they have fixed it, but with the passive time after month-to-month payments, we have to beg to apply the patch to the product. That is the main thing we are missing.

I would like to see Oracle E-Business Suite include all the necessary patches and fixes in the main product instead of requiring customers to pay for support for each one. This would make it easier and more efficient to customize the product to meet specific needs.

I have worked mostly with Oracle E-Business Suite.

I'm using the old version of the solution. The new version I was just using it to try on my own environment, e.g. doing the installation from scratch and trying to do it on my own. Oracle E-Business Suite has general ledger, financials, and HR functions, but I'm not much into those, as I'm much interested in the installation and administration of the solution.

I'm particularly interested in the patching and installation of Oracle E-Business Suite, and when there's an issue, I'm able to address the issue, e.g. in case there's a need for patching, I can do it.

I was looking at the interface of the latest version of Oracle E-Business Suite, as I was trying it, and compared to the previous version, there were so many changes to the interface. For now, I cannot say what can be changed or added to this solution, because there were so many changes to its interface, but it was easy to navigate through when you are training.

Because Oracle E-Business Suite is being used in a government department, I can only give a range in terms of the number of end users: more than 100 and less than 1,000.

My role was usually to run some Oracle assessment tools to gather information, and those tools will teach you about the whole system when you gather the information, depending on whether you understand the information on the report, so that gave me a lot of insight.

It was only me who took care of the deployment and maintenance of Oracle E-Business Suite, then there's only engagement with a specialist or a system admin when needed, but in terms of doing the assessment for the solution, I do it myself.

My advice to others planning to implement Oracle E-Business Suite is to be patient, especially when you do the administration part, because the solution is so broad, so it depends on what you are doing, e.g. there are different specializations such as financials, general ledger, etc. In terms of the technical part of it, it will be a matter of time to learn and to download those free ISOs from Oracle e-Delivery, and then try them. Doing that will definitely help, the same way it really helped me with Oracle E-Business Suite.

I didn't evaluate other products, because my specialty is Oracle database administration. I'm a database administrator, and I'm focused on the database, Linux, and Oracle E-Business Suite. They all work well together.

My rating for Oracle E-Business Suite is eight out of ten, because of the price.

You have to have patience, and be willing to spend more time due to the fact that eventually it pays off. Sometimes, the first impression is the best impression. Oracle EBS is not that. The first impression might be terribly bad, but once you get through there, you dig deeper, you'll get your money's worth.

They are not super efficient in the cloud business yet. They are getting there. We are using it on-premises. Fusion is the cloud-based offering for EBS. We never went that route. We're not comfortable yet.

Rating: with the current version I would say eight because like any other tool it's got its strengths and there are a few weaknesses, but I consider it a very high quality product. I've been with APEX now for over ten years. I built the farm on APEX and I've been very successful with it and many of my clients have been very successful using the product.

Basically if somebody comes to me like a young millennial says, "Okay, should I learn APEX?" The short answer for me is, "Yes." The company I am with, Insum, we've been doubling over the last few years because there's a huge amount of uptake of APEX right now. We have some very large clients here in the States some of the major banks use APEX for their production systems. We're into other large industries that have really found it very very useful and we jumped into it with both feet. We have no direct competitors because the people that theoretically are our direct competitors are basically our joint venture partners. If you haven't implemented it and are considering purchasing it, don't be afraid of it. Go ahead, jump in. Oracle is a phenomenal company and they will stand behind their product. The best advice is to take your time, know your business, and don't always take 100% judgement from your consultant. Use their advice, but listen to that little voice in your head of what you know as well. Have a good collaboration between you and the consultant. Don't try to do it on your own.

The last piece of advice and what many companies fail to do is the education portion. I can't tell you how many companies I've gone into to do training only after they've gone live. And it never fails that they've scaled back their education to save money. Like where I am now at Dekalb County, they never train the end users. These end users know absolute basics to get by, but they don't know all the great tools. Even though once it's implemented, they need to keep learning it. Just because you've implemented a product, you're not done. Now, after it has settled down and you've used it, you can go and see what else your product that's live can also do. So remember to get educated.

  • Make sure you document and understand your business processes and how they align with the product and best practices
  • Ensure that you have a plan for governance and adoption
  • Limit the number of integrations and customizations. While Oracle API’s are good, they require strong technical resources to develop. Once developed, they are very stable and require little maintenance
  • Make sure you have appropriate support staff. Oracle is very complex and requires a lot of expertise to support and maintain
  • Make sure you have a plan to perform and keep up with upgrades. Again, upgrades require a lot of testing and it would be nice to have a dedicated team to work on upgrades
  • Look at Oracle’s road map for Oracle E-Business over the years. The strategy and road map keep changing

My advice for anybody who is considering this solution is not to go with Oracle if you don't have much knowledge about it. In other words, don't buy the system based on the presentation by the marketing team. It is a very good system and I attest to it, but you need to have some personal experience with it.

Have extensive discussions about your use cases, requirements, and what everything is going to look like. Also, you should have a team that understands the system before you buy it. Don't buy Oracle with the idea that you'll want assistance. Although it's a good system, you need to be cognizant of it before implementing it.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

I would tell potential users that they need to understand the requirements and the time required to implement them. They can implement it separately in phases. Phase one is very simple. It's simple for finance, procurement, and inventory. After that, we can extend it step by step. They shouldn't implement several models at once as it's complicated.

Oracle consultants should take more time to learn the product, and they have to understand the Vietnamese. They also take time to learn the product becasue it's very complicated.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Oracle E-Business Suite a seven.

Rating: looking at the E-Business Suite right now, having worked with the product since 1991 and looking to see where they're at today, I'd say maybe a 7. They're heading towards that fully integrated product, that new technology, like the framework technology. If they get there, I'd give them a 10. Right now, probably a 7, because we have multiple technologies we're still dealing with.

Recommendation to peers: Looking at their business requirements for selecting the product, ensuring that every time you're looking at purchasing a product, derive that selection from defined business requirements. We get some organizations that just go out and buy things, then you go back, and they figure out that they bought a product that doesn't fit the solution they're trying to solve. Really, evaluating internally, getting clearly documented business requirements, mapping those through product selection, and literally having the organization sign off on that, so you're not investing all this money into a product that may not be used, because it's not fulfilling a solution.

I like the new version as it's easier to manage. The problem is that the timing is bad - they did quite a bit of work to the goals feature, and changed it around quite a bit. For me, it's hard work because I need to train everyone to use but it's much more fluid and easier to navigate.

We needed a lot more training and best practices for a small company. Oracle hasn't done a good job preparing best practices for small companies. However, it's great for goal management.

Look into the Oracle product and see if it will satisfy your requirements. Then, instead of buying 10 different products and integrating them, maybe you'll see that a product provides 80% of those benefits; go with that product, which I think Oracle does.

The most important criteria when I’m choosing a vendor such as Oracle is knowing that when new products come out, they will increase our company’s efficiency in terms of managing scalability, see that we can run these applications, and maybe they will help us increase sales and productivity. That's what we look for in most of them.

They are continuously improving the products, making sure they are staying with the competitors to make sure that they are following the industry standards and bringing customers up to speed so that we can use industry leaders.

I worked as a contractor for Oracle for some years, and E-Business Suit is a very good tool. You will not find an ERP that doesn't give you challenges. The very first thing, even EBS or any ERP, is that you need to be clear on your processes and you have to clean them up first. Else, you're just going to put more garbage in the system and the system is so powerful that it's going to spit everywhere. It's the processes plus the data. If you can do data cleaning before or during the implementation, it will give you much more peace later on.

Oracle Apps Developer at a tech services company with 11-50 employees

I am not working with Oracle Business Intelligence (BI). I am working as an Oracle developer, but not with Oracle development tools. I am working with tools such as Oracle Reports and Oracle Workflow Builder, but not with business intelligence tools.

I don't work for an Oracle Vendor, but I implement some products, e.g. the Oracle E-Business Suite.

We are developers and we aren't authorized to set up. For setup, there are other people concerned with setup, such as the administrators. There are three main jobs in this field. Administrators are responsible for setup, security, and configuration. Consultants are the ones who know the business, business rules, and verification among application screens or pages. Developers receive the instructions from the consultants and apply these solutions technically, and also add and make changes.

I am working as a freelancer, so I don't know all the sites the company implements this solution in, but it depends on the customization needed in each site. Some sites don't have a lot of requirements, e.g. they use the standard form of the application, meaning they don't need a lot of customization. There are sites or huge companies that have a lot of different business cases so they would need a lot of customization. It could take more than one year or two years to complete.

We are from Egypt and we fall under the Gulf area market. Most clients are from the Gulf area, but I don't know exactly how many clients. The main competition is between SAP and Oracle, but in the Gulf area, Oracle E-Business Suite is used more than SAP.

I don't know exactly how much this solution costs, but it will depend on the number of users.

My advice to people who want to implement Oracle E-Business Suite is to first be clear about the customizations they need. This is important. They should be clear and know what exactly they need to implement, and they should also know accurately the changes they want to implement for their business.

I am not able to give a rating because Oracle E-Business Suite is the first app on the market. Every application has disadvantages or points of weakness, but Oracle, SAP, and Microsoft Dynamics are three of the most accurate. They are the three best products in the world, but for this solution, I'm giving a seven out of ten.

Head of Technology Department at a comms service provider with 1,001-5,000 employees

Our relationship with Oracle is simplly one of supplier-customer relations.

This solution is deployed in our organization on credit in two sides active-active.

What I would tell other companies considering the solution is this: first, they need to know that it is an expensive solution. It's very expensive and therefore could only be affordable for companies that have a given level of revenue.

Beyond that, I would say Oracle needs to be a fit for future use in terms of being cloud-native. Organizations should ensure their solution can run on other public cloud providers other than Oracle themselves. They need to have their permission that it can be deployed in AWS or Azure or Google. Right now, the cloud version that they have most likely locks to Oracle cloud itself and they just need to be aware they need the option and flexibility.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

Minimize your customizations if you can. If not, get a lot of training because a lot of the screens are not as intuitive. I'm kind of a rare breed, I guess, as I do have some 'IT sense', so I can maneuver through screens, but when it comes to other people in my group who are really not 'IT minded' at all, they're usually asking me for help when there are some set-ups in their own modules. Setting up is the biggest key, and if you mess that up it's going to propagate the rest of your EBS experience, so you need to have a proper set-up.

When I start working with a vendor such as Oracle, expertise is a requirement that I look for. Ultimately, it comes down to the team that you're getting from that partner. I always say the best partner in the world still has a B team, and the worst partner in the world still has an A team. Your job is to find that A team in whatever partner you choose.

When we are selecting a vendor to work with, we look for a couple of things. One simple thing: basically, it has to be logical. Meaning that, whatever application's there, it makes sense to use. Also, it should be easy to implement and easy to support. Hopefully, it will work with our other systems. We also look at ease of use.

The kind of features they have provided is very helpful. It's very user friendly.

Look at the features Oracle provides and also at the customization options. For some products, there are limitations; for example, you cannot customize it. We can directly do the customization in the Oracle application. It’s not like we are developing some third-party application, and from there importing the data. We can directly customize the main application; this way, it is easier. Nonetheless, there are some risks involved with that as well… :)

I would advise potential user that, if they're implementing from scratch, to really, really learn the product before they implement. Oracle is known for certain decisions you make where you come to a point to either turn right or left, and if you turn right you can't decide later to turn left. I think some people try to slam things in and take short cuts, but I've done implementations in two different companies, and I've found that doing the slow and methodical approach and really planning it out is the best way to go.

What I learned is that we needed to get that solution in to run our business and then be open to the fact that neither we nor our implementation partner knew our business, so we ended up with a vanilla installation that would run our business. Then knowing that we had work in the future to do, we as a company learned Oracle and how to utilize it to fit our business.

Don't expect to put in a hundred-percent functional, whiz-bang ERP system the first time, but know that you would have a vanilla solution that you have to grow and help mature over a course of years.
