What is most valuable?

We primarily run OLTP with some reporting. With that being said, the feature that provides us the most performance gains is the Smart Flash Cache for the OLTP databases. The "offloading" capabilities provide the biggest performance gains for... more»

How has it helped my organization?

We have a number of statistics collected before cutover on our legacy environment compared to Exadata. Without doing anything other than copying the data across, we saw significant performance gains for most key processes. We receive feedback... more»

What needs improvement?

My biggest grip has been patches which has dramatically improved since our initial Exadata was delivered (January 2011). The only issues we periodically experience are with RPMs on the database nodes. These may fail during the pre-req check... more»

What is most valuable?

Of particular value to our environment and applications are the following Greenplum capabilities: * Scalable – Where MADlib does not provide a direct solution to an application problem, the ability to quickly prototype and deploy user defined functions with Python has been effective.

What needs improvement?

We would like to see Greenplum maintain a closer relationship with and parity to features implemented in PostgreSQL. The current version of Greenplum is based on a fork of PostgreSQL v8.2.15. This edition of PostgreSQL was EOL by the PostgreSQL project on Dec 2011. The current version of PostgreSQL is v9.5.

What is most valuable?

Performance, compression, and compatibility with MySQL

How has it helped my organization?

Initially, we used a relational database, MySQL along side Hadoop to create summary tables to produce our reports. Infobright allowed us to reduce the number of moving parts and complexity that we had while providing good performance to... more»

What needs improvement?

We ran into some quirks that Infobright had. We interacted with Infobright's support and were able to resolve them. There still are issues with data replication - Infobright is currently for one server (unless you buy the Infobright... more»

What is most valuable?

High performance RDBMS appliance optimized for data warehousing and enterprise reporting. Very simple to manage huge volumes of data without having to worry about indexing and partitioning. Automated compression of tables without any custom... more»

How has it helped my organization?

Reports which used to take between 30 to 60 minutes or would time out on an Oracle database, which was previously used for the enterprise DWH, now run consistently in seconds or in less than five minutes.

What needs improvement?

Could do better to support more concurrent update queries. We had to stagger our ETL.

What is most valuable?

We value the appliance architecture with its “everything-in-a-box” highly standardized setup. For the new ODA X6-2 models there is a possibility to deploy also SE/SE2 databases in a bare-metal deployment as well as the boosted I/O performance... more»

How has it helped my organization?

For one customer it consolidated several databases from several Windows physical servers into one single ODA and resulted in increased stability. For another customer it was used to “isolate” the last Oracle database system on one single ODA,... more»

What needs improvement?

The following issues need some attention: * Ease of administration and deployment. With ODA X6-2 there are different “OAK” administration commands for the S/M/L models (e.g. “odacli”) compared to the HA model ("oakcli"). * In my opinion only... more»

What do you think of SAP IQ?

Valuable Features The speed of the tool - both of the query response and the loading of data. • Improvements to My Organization It’s the central component of our enterprise data warehouse. Queries and reports that would require hours or days from the original source systems are now available in minutes or seconds. It’s really fast! • Room for Improvement The stability needs improvement. We’ve upgraded through multiple minor revisions because of issues where the database server would crash when attempting to answer a perfectly legal SQL query. We're • Use of Solution I've been using it for five years. • Deployment Issues The client side of the package is a bit monolithic. We'd like to be able to roll out just the ODBC driver to client workstations through our...
