What do you think of pfSense?

pfSense has been a perfect fit for my small business needs. It is economical (i.e., free), yet powerful, flexible, and intuitive. Its features rival many of the high cost solutions out there. The GUI could use improvements, though it is manageable.

What do you think of Cisco ASA?

Primary Use Case: It helps the firewall in our network and the VPN (Virtual Private Network). It creates a secure tunnel for our network. • Valuable Features: The IPS (In-plane switching) is the most valuable feature. This enables visibility to our networks and to outside attacks. What do you think of Cisco Firepower NGFW?

Primary Use Case: Currently used for at our disaster recovery site as our internal firewall, not a lot of services are running through it. We are still going around learning how to use it. • Improvements to My Organization: Since we have used Firepower firewall, we are facing issues of getting real-time logs, as they are not available with the latest version. • Valuable Features: It is easy to create interfaces and routing, which all can be done at the GUI level. For now, we are still going around the services and will add more in the future. • Room for Improvement: The product needs real-time logs to be able to monitor our services, so we can know if any our services have been blocked via the firewall or on the application side. • Use of Solution: Less than one year.
