Many organizations are using a blend of different BI solutions and there are many products/solutions on the market today. I encourage my customers to evaluate different products. Based on their business/project needs, they can then choose the best solution that fits their criteria and culture.

I was not involved in this process. The product was chosen 18 years ago.
We always return to the same vendors, such as IBM, SAP, and Tableau. If there is an existing environment where a lot of reports are outdated, changes need to be made. If we have a running system that is up with no technical problems and the price is not changing drastically, then no change is necessary.
View full review »We tried Microsoft’s offerings but found them not as full featured as Cognos.
View full review »We currently have plans to switch to Qlik. It's better for visualization.
View full review »IBM Cognos was part of the ERP bundle that we purchased. Cognos was part of the package and was sold through an IBM partner.
View full review »Before choosing this product, we did not evaluate other options.
View full review »We looked at Microsoft SSRS. But on look and feel, it didn’t give us that professional outlook.
View full review »Before choosing this product, we also evaluated OBIEE and SAP Crystal Reports.
View full review »I wasn’t at my company when they chose it, but I think it might be beneficial to re-evaluate the options.

We looked at Tableau. This tool is fast and easy to use because it uses the desktop. Tableau is better for the advanced users in my opinion.
View full review »I led a large vendor selection process at a former company around 13 years ago where I had 10 vendors come in and do a product demonstration based on our business requirements and from there, I was able to narrow the field down to Information Builders and SAP BusinessObjects. For the flexibility, self-service capabilities, and in-memory OLAP functionality, Cognos was the clear winner for us.

View full review »Cognos was already installed here when I was hired. The university hired me for my experience.

View full review »I understand HFM and SAP BPC were also considered before choosing this product. Cost and the relative sophistication of the user community played a big role on choosing Controller.
View full review »Before choosing this product, I did not evaluate other options.
View full review »We have often reviewed the BI landscape. For Enterprise BI, we have looked at Cognos, SAP Business Objects and MicroStrategy. These tools are very similar and leapfrog each other with each release. Newer tools such as QlikView, Tableau, and Spotfire have gained momentum and taken market share from the enterprise BI vendors. You need to analyze your needs and determine whether an enterprise BI suite is right for you, or if you need multiple tools for different capabilities.
View full review »We looked into Business Objects, Actuate, and Microsoft SSRS.
View full review »Before choosing this product, we did not evaluate other options. However, we did evaluate a few others recently for some other requirements. We figured out that MicroStrategy is also at par (or even on a bit higher side in some features), but considering the tradeoff between the features, price and effort to migrate, we felt it is better to go with Cognos.
View full review »Yes, we should always be looking at other solutions in the market and competitors, it is mandatory, like TCO analysis.
View full review »Before choosing this product, we looked at SAP BusinessObjects, OBIEE, Pentaho, Jaspersoft and QlikView; all in 2010.

View full review »I don't know if the company evaluated other options. They were already using the product before I joined.
View full review »I can't remember. But now I'm looking to go around looking at BI Tools to advise my customers which ones are best according to theirs needs. I will go deeper in Microsoft (for the price), Tableau for the visualisation and easy deploy and of course Cognos because it can do all BI needs (but it's expensive).
PS. Cognos Express is welcome with lower licensing price.
Before choosing this product, I did not evaluate other options.
View full review »When I've been involved with a software selection, the contenders were BusinessObjects, Cognos, and Oracle. Cognos won due to its broad coverage of features and solutions that it covers as well as the product maturity.

View full review »I always advise to use the right product to your specific needs, and evaluate some other options as well. Cognos BI can be a good fit for you in one case, but it might not be the best solution in another one.
View full review »I use both solutions IBM Cognos and Oracle BIEE. I use either of them, depending on the business needs.
