It reduces the administrative burden and provides better visibility in reporting on benefits

What is our primary use case?

Workday is an HR management or a talent management tool. It is basically the full suite of HR core processes. It has got modules within it for benefits for HR administration and talent acquisition.

Pros and Cons

  • "It helps the users to enroll for the benefits automatically and update their life events without the involvement of HR individuals or back-office staff. It enables a person to take action on their own. It reduces the administrative burden on HR and puts the ownership on the person that is going through the life event, whether it is having a child, taking a leave of absence, or something else. There are easy ways to integrate Workday with your common benefits. At least in the USA, it can be integrated with common benefits providers such as Fidelity, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, etc. It has got a connector that is able to connect with the vendor or the third party to which you are trying to send the eligibility file. It basically allows us to automate or set up the tool, and the integration with the provider is a lot quicker than competing tools. When it comes to reporting on just eligibility and SLSA, it is a lot more user-intuitive. Depending on the purpose of what you are doing, you can grant security rights or roles, for example, you can control whether someone is a benefits administrator doing an independent audit. Workday makes it very easy to do that. It significantly simplifies the reporting process."
  • "It is very unique as compared to other tools in terms of the employee master data and how it is organized. That's why sometimes the information needs to sit in two different systems because, in Workday, it is organized differently. This issue is not related to benefits. It is more or so related to how you categorize employees. I don't think this is a problem that could be solved. Workday is aware of this. It is one of those kinds of situations that you just got to live with."

What other advice do I have?

I would advise making sure that your HR data is clean. Take your time. Everybody is eager to implement a new shiny toy, but a lot of cleanups are required to get your house in order. You have got to clean up your HR data and make sure that there are no duplicate employees, people are assigned to the right job descriptions, and there are no such people who are terminated but still sit in your organization. When you actually migrate the data, all such issues will create a lot of problems. It is a leading talent management tool, and it has got the largest market share. I would rate Workday a ten…

A powerful suite of business tools that help with many ongoing processes

What is our primary use case?

We have been using this as an enterprise solution for many things including for financials, for supply chain, for sales, for maintenance, for manufacturing, et cetera. You name it. It helps us with many business processes.

Pros and Cons

  • "As we have been using this for the past nine years we have had the opportunity to explore the product. Really everything has worked well and all the modules are very good."
  • "Oracle is not keeping up on development of the on-premises version of this product as they are concentrating on cloud solutions."

What other advice do I have?

The advice that I would give to others who want to start using this product is that, in this day and age, you need to first evaluate different products. At the very least you would want to compare the E-Business Suite with the other Oracle cloud products. On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate the Oracle E-Business product at an eight-out-of-ten.

A stable system that is good for payroll, HR, and benefits

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case of this solution is for HR, payroll, benefits, time and labor, e-pay, absence management, and position management.

Pros and Cons

  • "Peoplesoft is the best payroll software in the market."
  • "If there is another release, they should look at going to mobile computing to stay competitive."

What other advice do I have?

It's important to know the product, but know the business, it's just as important. Most are going with cloud solutions because they don't want the IT departments. When you go with the cloud, you have to accept it, you can't change it. Anytime there is a change you have to pay for customization and that is very expensive. People should understand the features and the payroll policies to have it work correctly. PeopleSoft had Canadian and US payroll tables in the same table and you have to know or remember to put the correct payroll code. I don't believe in obtaining a license, it's about the…

Made our operations much easier and smoother but the reports need improvement

What is our primary use case?

We use the private deployment model of this solution.

Pros and Cons

  • "The best features that were working well for us was the Goal Management and Performance Management. They were the most valuable to our organization."
  • "They should improve the reports."

What other advice do I have?

I would advise someone considering this solution that they need to really look into their requirements and be very specific regarding the requirements when getting their orientation on the system and creating the requirement documents. They really need to to be very specific and very detailed in their requirements. Make sure to understand all the features and capabilities of the system. I would rate it a seven out of ten.

A customizable, end-to-end solution for Performance Management, Learning, and Succession Planning

What is our primary use case?

SumTotal Talent and Learn provides a system where all talent modules like Performance Management, Learning, Talent and competency assessments, Recruitment, Succession Planning, and 360-degree feedback can be integrated seamlessly.

Pros and Cons

  • "System usability has improved to a large extent and our manual effort has been reduced."
  • "Analytics is one area where this system really needs a large improvement because currently, it has only basic reporting features."

What other advice do I have?

If you are looking for an end-to-end solution, this is one system that you can consider. First identify the key module(s) on which your complete business case rests and choose the right product for you. Different products have different modules as their strengths. This point should be the key factor in your final decision. Most of these vendors will also offer you support to develop a tangible business case. This is quite handy.
