Veeam Backup & Replication Implementation Team
We did the implementation in-house.
View full review »I don't do a lot of deployments. It is mostly handled by a different group of people in my company.
We do offer professional services for implementation. Very often, we will take care of that, but it isn't really required.
The number of people required for its deployment and implementation depends upon the size of the environment. A small environment could be basically installed, maintained, and managed by one person. A much larger environment, depending upon how frequently you're doing restores and how complex your retention policies are, could require more people.

The installation is straightforward, but managing the system can be challenging, as it may require installing various tools on different machines. Consequently, a substantial infrastructure is necessary, involving approximately ten servers for the complete solution. The deployment process took approximately three weeks. Initially, we devised a plan, followed by the design phase. Once the design was finalized, we proceeded with the installation and implementation. The deployment was carried out in-house, with the involvement of two to three individuals.
I work with my company's IT team to handle the deployment. It's done in-house. The deployment process takes around an hour.
Typically, I discuss the deployment process with my manager or attend a meeting to discuss the solution and get approval. It's not a cumbersome process and is quite straightforward.

Regarding deployment, I was able to install the software myself. I had it up and running in a couple of days. We went through a period of more than a week to ensure that the backups were being done properly, were being finished properly. I would say within a couple of weeks it settled down and it's been working fine since then.
In terms of deployment, it usually takes one person. I installed it with a colleague — we're both Veeam certified, so that helps. From the point of view of the end-users, they seemed to grasp it pretty readily. At every institution, there are one or two people that are needed to maintain it — that's it. As I said, it's stable and relatively simple to use. My customers are satisfied with it.

Our integrator is one who generally deals with IBM and Lenovo hardware in Egypt and we were the first case they had working with a Veeam solution. They listened to what we needed and what we were asking for. We need on the job training so we needed their help for the first month or so after the installation. The engineer was very helpful in guiding us through the deployment. He was very professional. He helped us at the beginning but after a certain point, we had some issues and he would tell us that he'd get back to us but he never did. He was busy and didn't prioritize us because we're not his main customer. We turned for support from Veeam themselves and they were responsive and helped us.
It requires two staff members for maintenance. They're two engineers that act as backup for each other. We really only need one engineer to administer everything but if he's not there, the other one is there as backup.

As product implementation becomes more sophisticated, Veeam recognizes the growing need to identify entrusted and authorized partners who possess the highest expertise level and are able to deliver high-quality services to ensure that our users are completely satisfied. We are the first and only certified professional services partner In Turkey. Maintenance services is important in enterprise large accounts.
View full review »We leveraged talent in-house. Implementation of simple (but robust) functions can be really straight forward for most small to medium environments. To get basic services up running we suggest that customers download the free version and get started with it. This will introduce them to how Veeam approaches backup and recovery. Sometimes Backup Admins are a little shocked at how easy it is to admin, even though they have used and are very familiar with legacy products.
View full review »I work for a Veeam partner so we implement all Veeam deployments ourselves. My best advice for Veeam goes for all other products that support it: use a dedicated backup target such as Data Domain, StoreOnce, FalconStor, etc. Not only are these devices designed for this type of workload (improves performance) but you will get a secondary benefit of the hardware deduplication that makes your backup jobs incredibly small and efficient. You can run Veeam and a server and backup to the local storage to save money but the long-term solution is not as good and problem-free.
