Veeam Backup & Replication Valuable Features

Sanjeev Roy
Project Manager at renaissance group
We evaluated different options and we picked the most significant one, Veeam. The main features about the Veeam Backup & Replication suite I like are: * If a Veeam image is copied to a replication machine, then Veeam automatically checks to see if ransomware attacked or not. * Veeam will automatically check if a file is corrupt or not. If a file is corrupt, then it will not make a backup copy to the replication server. That means the corrupt file is not copied to replication. * We have confidence that our replication image is good and not corrupted as VM machines. These are the significant features and there are a lot of features with Veeam. You need to first check out the Veeam website. View full review »

Veeam Backup & Replication is a great alternative to what is out there. Some of the backups just allow an agent backup to the cloud. You can back up a thousand different ways, but this is a great way to keep a customer and a company in compliance in that they've got their data secure onsite and offsite. The data being transferred to the NAS at the customer's location and also the data being sent to the cloud is encrypted in transit and it's also encrypted at rest so that nobody is going to be able to hack into that. No one will have the keys to do that. The dashboard is very, very easy to understand. We do demonstrations all the time with customers just to show them. If they've lost particular files because of a server going down, we can retrieve those files for them and quickly bring those files back up. So in a disaster recovery where you've got a location that's either been hit with a tornado, a hurricane, an earthquake, or whatever the disaster might be, this company and customer has to be up, then this data is secured offsite as well, and can be pulled down either to a VM, a virtual machine, or to another physical server. It is just a matter of how fast your internet connection is. View full review »

We migrated our servers from physical to virtual with our B2B platform. We had a big problem when trying to transfer our site server that was about six terabytes to the new environments. We wanted to do it with minimal effort and without changing the permission because if we do a copy, the permissions won't work. We put a Veeam Windows agent on these physical servers, did a backup and then we were able to take this backup as a drive that is connected to the new VM environment. It has helped us transfer the solution in two days instead of working for a minimum of one week to ten days. View full review »

The solution's most valuable aspect is its ability to make use of an appliance to use as a staging disk to allow us to make fast recoveries directly from the bridge. This helps us avoid using the communication links View full review »

The most valuable feature is adaptability, where it automatically adapts to the environment that it's being installed on. It can auto-configure backup transport, whether it be a direct-attach or network-based. It has one-click restores and instant recovery, which is important because if a product doesn't have a good restore and recovery capability, then the backup is pretty much useless. View full review »

Veeam Backup does not interfere with your environment. It's got those facilities, which are very good. Acronis has been a long time player on the images and in block-based backups. I can't think of any improvements yet for Veeam because they are very good. It integrates very well with Microsoft applications. It is very easy to integrate. Micro Focus can also integrate but it's more complex. You have to know the product very well to be able to integrate. While Veeam, it's very user-friendly. You don't need to have certifications or anything to work on Veeam. View full review »

Granular permissions through Veeam Enterprise Manager have allowed for us to pass control down to our support staff instead of having it with senior datacenter resources. Vendor integration for many of the enterprise features have allowed for us to have greater performance from our storage vendors further improving on our commitments to protect our clients' data. The solution gives me everything which is no physical machine gives, however, it is much easier to relocate to do anything with it. The solution offers the normal benefits of a virtual machine versus a physical, actual machine. It doesn't take up space, for example. View full review »

It's a very easy solution to use. It's easy for IT teams to manage, however, you don't need any special skills to really wrap your head around the product. The product is very simple in its design. We don't need it to perform complicated tasks. We work with the standard version, which is free. View full review »

We use Veeam Explorer for Exchange for single item restores and to restore mailboxes, which is good. With SQL Explorer, you can access SQL, and it's got some good tools that are integrated into the product. The Veeam physical backups for Windows is good, but I'm not sure about other operating systems. If you have a lot of central sites and remote sites, you can easily set up the replication and make it easier. View full review »

The peace of mind of the backup is very important. Incremental backups make it fast and easy to use. We can recover from any failures in case of any hardware failures or malware attacks.
